"I Write the Songs" is a fine song. Barry Manilow's lacked the subtlety of Bruce Johnston's original. Manilow was a middle of the road pop artist who used over the top orchestration and vocal histrionics that buried the original chord structure & overall melody. Not to pick on Barry, but he did this with Ian Hunter's "Ships" as well. At least Barry had good taste in covers.

LOL. I have to wonder how the sound might have sounded if Bruce Johnston had taken it to the Beach Boys. I am guessing he was not in the band at the time.

Ending 2. While we're all being critics, I'd also shorten (or remove entirely) the end flourishes, as it somewhat changes the flow.

I have always liked the lyrics. Both are good, but I like ending two. I like where you have a softer sound with, "that make the young girls cry".

I never liked the song and even though you did it good job on playing it I still don’t like the song,, Ending 2 was the best ending of a bad song

For another Bruce Johnston song, I’d recommend “The Nearest Faraway Place” from the 20/20 album. It is an instrumental that is very atmospheric. I’d like your opinion of it. Other Bruce tunes are “Disney Girls”, “Tears in the Morning” and “Deirdre”.
