Today we take a quick deep dive into the MSR, one of the quickest multicrew ships in the verse and is capable of being used for many different roles, including its role as a Data Runner and even a Blockaade Runner!
The MSR is a blast to fly! The rework on Hydro burn was great for the pocket book on credits. Love that she can fit an URSA and her landing profile makes it easy to get on the ground quickly. Now changes that would be awesome are to move the data collection banks under the floor in the secret tunnels and use this new open space for a monitor station for the data modules and add suit lockers and escape pods. Plus a side entrance in the corridor behind the cockpit and you got a great ship :)
The best block runner by default as it’s about the only one lol. The Mercury needs a total inner rework, it’s such a flawed ship but has very cool looks going for it. Those stupid “smuggler compartments” make no sense when they’re standard on every single ship. Sure I can imagine interdicting one in a Cutty Blue and boarding with other players. “So, you carrying anything illegal? The main cargo bay looks fine.. mind if I pop that queen chess piece over on this for a moment?”
Lol yeah it is kinda confusing why they thought to advertise that part of the ship. They should have just made it something for people to find out about if they really wanted to keep it.
The MSR was the second ship I purchased and still love it and use it nearly every time I play. It has some eccentricities that could be addressed, but I love it none the less. I have similar upgrades to what you recommended, though I upgraded the missile racks to carry more missiles. Smaller, but in CQB, they can help.
Honestly, I've been fining that more missiles end up being better overall anyway. Usually I run taskforce 1 missiles as they normally hit their target and are pretty good at forcing enemies to disengage in order to defend.
I love the MSR.. it was my first Concept. My first over $100 ship. and eventually I will own 2 of them. because the first is name "Dexy's Midnight" and I have a perfect name for the second one, which I won't share. let me know if you get the Reference for Dexy's Midnight.
I agree for the most part. I'd argue that persistent/instanced hangars and cargo elevators not being in yet is a bit of a down. But there's still time. Currently the patch is kinda rough, but we'll see how it fairs over the next few weeks
Doesn't matter how it used to fly tbh, it's still vastly more quick than any other ship of its size. It's a perfect middle ground between the Connie and Cutlass. Personally, they need to just delete the tubes underneath. It's pretty bad. But the MSR, as Havok says, is formidable when it comes to combat. The ship is a blast in multicrew. The real issue is that people forget this ship is a data runner first and foremost. Saying its combat performance is poor is like comparing the Hammerhead to the Starfarer. Also, the current maneuverability and speed are again, vastly better than others of its size and capability.
@@wafflesinsanity "for its size" is the key here. It can't seriously fight, not really, and it's a giant pancake target. So it needs to be faster, much faster. That's the MSRs survival strategy, or at least it should be, since it has no others.
@@retrospectology yes. As it was designed. Its a Data 'Runner' not a Data Fighter. But for its size it packs a punch. Again, its the in between of the Cutlass and Connie, but faster and more agile than both. Ill never understand a citizens desire to talk ship about her combat ability. No one ever compares the RAFT to combat ships. That being said, you can get a Fury in the back of an MSR and it becomes an amazing multicrew true multipurpose ship. Citizens just need to stop expecting it to be S tier at everything.
MSR is my primary ship as I use it for smuggling and I can't wait for being able to get into the data running. We can put an ursa in it, it's a great ship for a rowdy gang of players doing their best to stay on the wrong side of the law, lol
where do you get your info for components? I default to erkul, but it shows all the shields in this size perform the same (also thanks for the vid, love the MSR!)
I use Erkul as well, but there's more info when you're looking through the components. The main reason I don't get the FR-76 is because the distortion reboot time is higher than the Lorica. But there's a lot more info in there you can find about the component than just the usual shield health and regen time.
i suspect Data running will largely consist of Pony-Expressing data from one system to another, as radio signals are limited to the speed of light. so, while you are haling 114 SCU cargo, you can supplement your income with Data. Of course there will be some sort of "less legitimate" data game play. but I think it's almost like a second cargo hold. I love my MSR, and intend it to be my Day 1 daily driver
I think the MSR is one of the best looking and best designed ship in the game. But in practically it isnt a good ship. It has a huge cross section and not enough firepower to defend its self in the verse. I think they should make it in to a real smuggling ship where the whole hule is in scannable and also ad some kind of stealth component to drop the EM and IR
@@asiftalpur3758 Things turned out that I don't have the C1 anymore. Tried the MSR (really like its style) but I ended up with the 600i Explorer and I'm really enjoying it. Now lets wait for the rework in a couple of centuries 🤣
@@ALEX_JOTA oh excellent choice with the 600i Explorer. I'm going a slight different route for my larger ship with the galaxy(primarily because of its overall design and cost). I am holding onto a 600i Explorer CCU just in case. That ship is wonderful
Mercury - you kill small ships and outrun everything else. This is the ship that will keep you alive :). Sadly though this is the first Crusader ship and it will eventually need a rework. Others should be done first though.
It's true! It definitely has a bunch of major flaws. What was nice to hear is that all of the ships that aren't up to the gold standard yet will be updated for by the time 1.0 hits
I think this ship needs to get rid of the 'secret crawlspace' so it can flatten to be harder to hit and fly faster in atmosphere. Oh, and add an elevator in front.
Yeah I kind of agree that it's quite a whale in terms of its size, but it does give it quite a bit of cargo space with the way its set up. I wonder if it'll ever be reworked 🤔
I don't think the MSR is the best ship for the job. With Master mode in effect now. Ships speed doesn't matter anymore. I would say any of the Connie's would be a much better choice and cheaper. As the MSR is way too over priced for what it is. May have more cargo room then some of the Connie's but not the Taurus. Plus 4x size 5 guns. Vs the MSR 2 size 3 guns. Plus Taurus has that tractor beam. Data running isn't a thing yet so a waste of space till it's a thing. Great video tho
I will never forsake my MSR but CIG has seemingly abandon data running as a gameplay. They have not spoken on it in years. I am also concerned at CIG's hyperfocus on combat game loops and neglected many others for it. Perhaps they feel they have satisfied the industrialists with Cargo hauling, mining and salvage and lack the resources to hone exploration, data running and science.
I get that it's easy to get discouraged cause we haven't seen anything, but it will come at some point. I'm hoping we see it this year. But I don't believe for a second they've abandoned any of the planned gameplay loops. Combat is integral to the game and they need to get it right, but they will add more.
Combat is one of the core things the game is made for, it's natural that they're focused on it. Remember too that they now have the Squadron 42 guys in and transferring over feature, and that's a combat focused game to begin with. But combat wasn't always a focus. They had to build the ships and flight and all that first. So it is with data running and many other features. CIG is still laying the groundwork for the other systems.
You guys need to remember, one data running mechanic is already in the game in some way, or the resources lets say. The new star map/minimap is rendering the surroundings, so that means locations will be sold, along with markers as POI etc. This ties into exploration as well! Advanced scanners/radars, enemy org base building, ships in their vincinity, snapshots of their locations. Maybe resource info and cargo info. Selling that info as a traitor or infiltrator… These dont require some gameplay loops ingame, just a player and his various intentions 😂
"collect and steal important data" ? that feature is still a year+ away. The MSR has failings...tunnels in the lower ship makes its height profile really bad for a useless "feature", no quick pilot access,
Yeah no gameplay feature for it is indeed sad. And I get it's smuggling compartment really is a gimmick. I honestly didn't really sit down for that long to really critique the tunnels. But in hindsight it really is kinda silly. I get what they were going for though
@@Hav0k perhaps ALL engineering could be moved into the "underfloor" with modules/compartments lining the inside of the walkway.. only certain compartments are the actual ship systems while the rest are simply cargo compartments that look the same as the engineering modules. The compartments have a number/letter section identifier with it's key code combination for entry. The ship's engineer is able to pick which conpartments are the ship systems and by doing this you retain the idea of "hidden" compartments. They're not hidden but it'll take time for anyone to try to find out which is which providing they can get or hack the code.

Came for the contest, stayed for the content!
I love my MSR and it is the only ship I’ve ever owned that is not a stepping stone to something better
Imo its missing features are not even a deal breaker. Its good for multicrew, cargo, vehicle transport for mining. It had lots of value
I agree for the most part. I'd argue that persistent/instanced hangars and cargo elevators not being in yet is a bit of a down. But there's still time. Currently the patch is kinda rough, but we'll see how it fairs over the next few weeks
A door with ladder exit on the left side of the cockpit would be great. OR even an airlock door we can jump out of. A ramp instead of an elevator too.
It's a shame newer players don't realize how it used to fly, it was much less of a paper tugboat in the past and fit its roll way better.

Same. I have a Taurus and a Corsair as well, and still find myself using my MSR as my daily.
