      Thanks Bruce! We did soooooo much research when we were looking for some of these lights. Hopefully this will make it easier for others to check out the cool lighting options out there. Cheers! -M

    Excellent video. Something I have often thought is the use of a powerful spotlight to deter anyone approaching the boat at night. Not exactly necessary where you are at the moment but in more tropical waters if a boat is shadowing you and makes an approach you can light them up and effectively blind them in as much that they will not be able to see anything, not even your boat. Jumping between moving boats when you can’t see what you are jumping on to gives you some advantages. If you are in known risky waters you will probably want a bit more to your plan but this could be useful.

      Indeed she is. The weather has taken a turn and it's COLD outside. Walking back from the store in the dark I saw the soft glow from Paragon's lights in the distance and it felt so...cozy. Makes coming home even nicer. 😊 -M

      Yay, no more robot. Or, at least, less robot? 🤖 Glad you liked the video and we wish you a Happy Christmas as well! Btw, I was just looking at Pender Harbour and it looks lovely! I was just chatting with Alfy from Life is Like Sailing and saying how his videos make me long for that part of the world. Definitely excited about exploring that area aboard Paragon. -M

    I really do love these but then again you know I'm a hopeless fanboy at this point LOL. In all seriousness, even though I'm not someone who sails or is likely to ever live on a boat, I love the pragmatism, practicality, innovations, planning, sustainability and precautions this lifestyle has to offer. I believe so much of what cruisers adopt is applicable in other capacities.

    Very helpful video Drake. I think LEDs are essential to reduce power consumption especially in higher latitudes. A video on your grab bag would be great. There are many videos but everyone has a good idea worth adding so it would be great to see what you carry. All the best Andy UK

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  2 года назад +1

      I agree Andy. We're able to have all these cool lights only because they require so little electricity. Not such a big deal when we're on shore power, but every amp counts when we're off the grid...especially if it's a calm and overcast day. And there seems to be a lot of interest in the ditch bag so that is definitely going on the PFS list! Take care - M

    Gotta do an overview of your Entertainment System setup! What kind of projector, is it mounted and if so how? What about the audio system on the boat? Are you hardwired to the projector somehow or using bluetooth for the projector audio? What's the power consumption look like? How do you maintain your DVD and audiobook and music library for the boat? :-)~

    I just discovered your ‘stuff’ series and binged, thank you for the useful and well presented information. I think that an episode about your heating system would be very interesting so if you’re counting votes, please add mine to that column.
    Referencing your laundry episode, I was wondering if you considered removing the ballast in your Splendide washer? As I understand it, there is a fair bit of dead weight in these machines that is intended to keep it from bouncing all over the floor but could it be removed since you strapped it down so carefully?

    Wow, I like the nice cinema you have in your salon. 🤩 What kind of projector and screen do you have?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  2 года назад +1

      I gotta say, we love it! It's a budget projector, but we think the 1080p image is GREAT, and the brightness is also great. It's an Apeman LC650 projector. I got it refurbished for $150 on eBay. uk.apemans.com/products/projector-apeman-native-1920x1080p-hd-portable-projector-support-4k-300-screen-for-home-theater-outdoor-movie-4d-electronic-keystone-75-zoom-for-smartphone-pc-xbox-ps4-tv-stick2021-upgrade?_pos=1&_sid=affa70abd&_ss=r
      I searched for a long time for the pull down screen, because I wanted one that was the best size for our space. It's a Homegear Projector Screen Pull down. I got it used on eBay for $30. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293064890659
      We keep the projector in the bookcase in the salon, and on movie nights I just take it out and put it on the refrigerator counter on top of small stack of books. We then hook up our iPhone to it with an HDMI cable to play Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, RUclips, and movies that we have copies of.
      What's really made it all incredibly better is the speakers. I got 4 pretty decent 6x9 car stereo speakers, and mounted one in each corner of the salon. They're hooked up to two of these little amplifiers. www.amazon.co.uk/Nobsound-NS-20G-Digital-Amplifier-Bluetooth-Black/dp/B07JRC1ZJQ
      And then finally I installed a compact, car subwoofer under the salon. The extra bass add a lot to movies. Like when we watch sci fi movies and there are space ships roaring by, you can really feel the whole room shaks. :)

      Thank you very much for your reply. There are so many mini projectors in a wide price range. So I prefer to listen to a trusted recommendation. Soon my boat will get its own cinema ⛵️

    You have a lot of lights, at present My salon lighting consists of iPhone flashlight on manfrotto magic arm stand, but I learned from your video that I can tell Siri to turn it on.

      Cool! Using Siri to turn the lights on and off in each room individually (and set brightness and color) can be pretty convenient at times.

    Hey Drake, LEDs are great but I often have problems with them interfering with the VHF radio due to the pwm circuit. Do you also have these problems and recommendations to get rid of this?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  2 года назад

      Good to know. Thanks! We'll do a test to see if our LIFX lights cause any interference with our VHF. When we're underway we always just use our flourescent Alpenglow lights for cabin lighting without any problems. Many, many years ago I was having interference problems with our tricolour navigation light interfering with our VHF. The company that made the light sent us a little thing to attach around to the wire supplying power to the light, but this didn't fix the problem. Later I replaced the VHF with a different model, made by the same company and it worked fine.

    I would be very interested in seeing your ditch bag episode! Thanks for taking the time to show us these interesting items. On a different note, the map you showed suggests you have been to Svalbard, or are going at some point. Have you been there yet and if so, did you produce an episode yet? If you did I missed it! Fair winds.

      Thank you. We did sail to Svalbard. It was fantastic. Éanna flew in and we spent a couple of months sailing all over Spitsbergen before continuing on to Norway.

    All that smart home, is it 12 volt?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  2 года назад +1

      All of the LIFX LED lights run on either 110 volt or 220 volt AC. We have ours running off of our 12 volt DC to 110 volt AC inverter, which runs off of our 12 volt batteries. The amp meter in the video was showing amps being used at 12 volts. There was about half an amp being used by the inverter just being on, and about another half an amp being used by our wireless router, which were both required for using the LIFX lights.

    • @terrygonzales5049
      @terrygonzales5049 Год назад

      I bought the Lifx LEDs thinking I could wire them directly to my cabin light system at 12V. But once I opened the box I can see the output rating on the AC to DC transformer is actually 24V. 😢
