Nonversatie - Roland Kuit, 2024
Twee videoschermen met elk een alfabetische cirkel. De cirkels worden doorlopen met zgn. Brownian Walks. Dit is een manier om willekeurig de letters af te gaan. De letters worden benoemd aan de ene kant door Roland Kuit en aan de andere kant door kunstenaar Karin Schomaker. In deze cirkels zijn de trajecten van willekeur te volgen. Het is een proces om toevallige synchroniciteit te ontdekken. Daar ligt de gevonden betekenis.

Two video screens, each with an alphabetical circle. The circles are run through with so-called Brownian Walks. This is a way of randomly going down the letters. The letters are named on one side by Roland Kuit and on the other by artist Karin Schomaker. The trajectories of randomness can be followed in these circles. It is a process of discovering random synchronicity. That is where the found meaning lies.

Een laboratorium met zesduizend tafeltennisballetjes die ons mensen voorstellen wanneer we gebruik maken van sociale media. Ideeën die die worden doorgebotst met goede, of slechte intenties in een chaotische wereld.
Zichtbaar in dit veld is de beweging van chaos. Chaos zal zich altijd richting een equilibrium bewegen. Dat is het zoeken naar een evenwicht en zich daar vastzetten. Dit evenwicht mag men polarisatie noemen. Vast, en niet vrij.
Dan is het aan de suppoost of de toeschouwer om de ventilator(en) anders te richten als nieuwe input van een idee om deze chaos weer op gang te brengen, totdat er weer een nieuw evenwicht gevonden is. Dit herhalend zolang er mensen zijn die bereid zijn ideeën te delen.

A laboratory with six thousand table tennis balls that represent people to us when we use social media. Ideas that are pushed through with good or bad intentions in a chaotic world.
Visible in this field, is the movement of chaos. Chaos will always move towards equilibrium. That is looking for a balance and fixing yourself there. This balance may be called polarization. Fixed, and not free.
Then it is up to the attendant or spectator to direct the fan(s) differently as new input of an idea to restart this chaos, until a new balance is found. Repeating this as long as there are people willing to share ideas.
Reflecties met tekstloos papier - Roland Kuit. 2024
Doordat mensen verdwijnen in de bubbles van de sociale media vervaagt het nieuws. De algoritmes van het internet doet er alles aan om de mensen in de bubble te houden. In deze installatie ziet men de krantenteksten vervagen, kranten verkreukeld, verscheurd weggegooid. Proppen van herinneringen aan iets wat nieuws was. Deze installatie laat zien dat een andere werkelijkheid hieruit ontstaat. De kwetsbaarheid van de werken aan de muur symboliseren onze democratie en rechtsstaat. Waarden waarop men kon bouwen.
Deze waarden, lijken te vervagen, liggen op de grond. Als herinnering hoort men het knisperen, verkreukelen, proppen en scheuren uit de geluidsboxen aan de wand. Als een oneindige lus van vervaging naar iets wat eens de werkelijkheid was.
Reflections with textless paper - Roland Kuit. 2024
Because people disappear into the bubbles of social media, the news fades. The algorithms of the internet do everything they can to keep people in the bubble. In this installation one sees the newspaper texts fading, newspapers crumpled and thrown away torn. Cramming memories of something new. This installation shows that a different reality emerges from this. The fragility of the works on the wall symbolize our democracy and the rule of law. Values on which one could build.
These values, seem to fade, lie on the ground. As a reminder, one hears the crackling, crumpling, crumpling and tearing from the loudspeakers on the wall. Like an infinite loop of fading into something that was once reality.
