  • William Ball describes American Conservatory Theater, 1976; director's extra on DVD from kultur.com of "The Taming of the Shrew" by Shakespeare. ACT did a Comedia del'Arte Italian 16th century version in San Francisco in 1976. Bill Ball is one of the best American theater directors of all time in my opinion.

I agree about the Ball. He/ACT turned out the only well trained actors in the US. The New York studios were, for the most part, cults of personality.

I was in the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco as a student in the Conservatory for a year and in the company for a year. It was a thoroughly transforming experience. Thanks for it all Bill.
