I'm a lawyer and I can confirm it is extremely labor intensive to sue the state. State governments have a way of carving out niche loopholes for themselves that don't apply to private business. I get it, however, to a certain degree. Suing the state and winning means taking tax payer money, and we should protect it. But, and this is a big one, it allows the State to get away with some terrible things that private business cannot; and that's unfair and unjust.

    • @johnhumphrey9953
      @johnhumphrey9953 5 лет назад +4

The biggest problem with suing the state is the doctrine of sovereign immunity, in other words the faults belief that since the states derive their authority from God, they can do no wrong. If lawyers know that since the states do not derive their authority from God, by definition the states cannot be sovereign and therefore cannot hide behind the doctrine of sovereign immunity.

+XuntosIzor I agree. I always wanted to visit the USA, but after reading that if you take ill you can be charged £300,000 Pounds, enough to buy a big house, it is worrying. The Crime rate is terrible. When Children grow up learning there is no God. We are Apes in Trousers and once your dead that is it and the 10 commandments are a farce, that includes Though Shalt not Murder and Honour your Mother and Father and do not steal etc.. They get depressed. This is in part why you read of School massacres in the USA. A woman wrote to me to say her Daughter broke her arm in the USA, she was charged $1400 Dollars for a Bandage and some Physiotherapy. Obama was on TV at the start of 2016 pointing out that he had received letters from Parents whose kids have been shot. He wanted to amend the gun laws on two occasions, The people of Texas (Where Aronra comes from) Took to the streets in protest with their guns. That is what the USA is becoming. They could not careless about the fact that Children died after being shot. They mentioned a website that shows how many have been shot each day in the USA with stats for Injuries and Deaths. I read the stats 1st January to 6th January and it was horrific. At first I thought it was yearly, it was not, it was daily. Aronra get paid to travel all over Europe preaching his Gospel "There is no God" on one big holiday paid for by his followers. He should spend more time in his State of Texas, take to the stand and fight the Medical Care System and the fact that Children are being shot, or is he too scared to do it. It is easier to attack God and get paid for it?

blonde7000 You don't have to preach to me about the issues in my country, I am in the thick of this. I don't know anyone that is blind to our problems as a nation. I can say for a fact that religion is not going to make things better in the USA. The healthcare, education, gun control, violence, corporate and political greed, military privilege, white privilege, sexism, and racism issues are not caused by a lack of religion in this country. In fact, this is perhaps the most religious "first world" country on the planet right now. All of our problems stem from corruption in the authority establishments and socioeconomic inequality. Removing religion would actually solve more issues than cause them; for example, there is a "cult of ignorance" growing in our nation that is fueled entirely by a religious agenda that seeks to systematically remove higher learning, critical thinking, and science entirely from schools in favor of never questioning authority or religious dogma. They are an aggressive third party that uses manipulation of the gullible, faithful, and/or the uneducated religious masses to fund their war on education and science in America. All the problems you mention cannot be solved until Americans as a whole have had a paradigm shift and reject those in power that seek to keep people ignorant and impoverished.

Old Man from Scene Twenty Four Easier said than done. Most people in this state make below the median income (about $55,000yr). If you make $35,000 here, people think you're middle class (even though that's not true). With that kind of income you can't just up and move to a more progressive state where the cost of housing and living is much higher. Most people I know (including myself) have two jobs so they can pay the bills. Not only that but every year the jobs leave our community and what few mediocre paying jobs exist are seen as blessings that people aren't so quick to give up to move somewhere else. Plus moving to a place where there is no family or safety net can turn into a complete fucking disaster should you make a mistake. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. The southern states have the highest religiosity, worst education, lowest general IQ, worst heath care, worst human social atrocities, worst social services, worst... etc, etc. It is religion in this country that _causes_ the kinds of crap that you read about, that makes America so looked down upon.

+Dienekes You make some good points here. I saw president Obama on TV in tears after he received letters from parents whose children were murdered by guns. He wanted to change the Gun laws so that background checks could be made on people purchasing Guns. The people of Texas who I regarded as low IQ took to the streets with their guns in protest, they could not careless about Children being murdered. Aronra is from Texas, maybe he should be giving seminars on what it does to families when children are being shot. Is religion the real reason why people get charged a fortune for medical treatment? If it is, even I am angry, because that is not the religion in the Bible, nor is it Christianity. The Bible does not say "Go out and become Doctors, make money out of the Sick and Vulnerable, sell your medicines at a high price and God will bless you" I know there are con artist churches that pretend miracle cures have taken place and make money out of it. There are others "Send us your money for some piece of Cloth or similar, claiming it will cure you" This is just as bad as Aronra preaching "There is no God and getting paid for it" Churches get attacked when they do wrong, yet Aronra gets praised, Also I don't see any attacks on Satan Worshippers. It is all one sided against the Bible and God. Is religion the reason why the ill are charged a fortune in the USA?

"How can you appreciate nature if you know so much about how it works?" was the ridiculous and oxymoronic question I was always asked due to my interest in science and the details of Life, the Universe and Everything; these people thought that knowing how something works takes the wonder out of it, when it actually makes it more amazing and brings up more fascinating questions; just as with 'magic tricks' some want to appreciate what's really happening while others get mad if their illusions are shattered.

The joke around time 15:00 is sadly true.
I live in Europe. And yes, the US are the butt of jokes about ignorance and stupidity. Just today a US couple hauled a buffalo calf into their car because they were "afraid it could freeze". The calf died and the general reaction on various boards this was posted to was not outrage, it was mostly an apathetic "tsk. Amis, what did you expect?"
The US are currently mostly seen as the equivalent of an international schoolyard bully. Stupid, but strong, and only staying afloat by pushing the other students around. Some suck up to him and pretend to be his friends, but in fact, nobody can really like that stupid git, everyone's just afraid of him, and happy if he beats up someone else instead, everyone's humoring him and playing along to his whims, because that way at least he leaves you alone.
The mere idea of teaching Creationism like it had anything to do with reality is simply completely impossible to fathom. And this from someone who lives in a country that has a concordat with the Vatican that makes it MANDATORY to have two hours of religious education per week in schools. A politician that as much as tried to consider pushing that agenda can as well kiss his career good bye because he'd be seen as some kind of madman for even bringing it up, let alone wanting to teach something.
Again: We have MANDATORY religious education in public, state funded schools. We're not talking about any kind of religious schools or church run schools, this is mandatory in public schools!
But maybe that's the very reason religion simply doesn't play a role in our lives. After getting to hear that drivel twice a week for 8+ years, you have heard enough of it for more than a life time.

Science is not considered important. We accepted evolution, we burned our hands on Galileo Gallilei We are not so obsessed. We are taught things like love they neighbour without considering his or her religion. That is not so with those protestants in the USA. The bible is to be considered Litteraly. And it really is indoctrination. Frightening. So if religion is taught at there schools it wil be horrible. Do not forget that they start with the hell thing when the kids are 2 to 3 years old! So to doubt faith just for a second you go to hell. So you train yourself not to doubt. Result: No free though, no proper education and most probably a collapse that will pull us with them. Think Trump president and a new Muslim attack. Throw in a few atom bombs (pun intended) and we have our armageddon.

The funny thing is that even though, in the Netherlands (Holland), we don't have an official separation of church and state. It is considered political suicide, when our politicians actually dare to include any religious content into their political agenda. Religion over here has retreated to small rural towns and is in general not talked about at all. It's not part of most of our lives or seen as a form of tradition, instead of actually an ideology. Also the actual religious people here don't push their agendas at all and the nonreligious also don't go out of their way to talk about religion vs atheism, live and let live policy seems to be the gist of it
And then there's the good o'l USA, which does have indeed separation of church and state. And it is considered political suicide to say you're not religious and is also one of the most religious countries in the world.

What you say is not untrue, but the difference is that the racist Confederacy, with its supporters today, insisted the war was about general states rights pretending it had nothing to do with slavery. THAT'S why claiming "states rights" in this context is considered disingenuous and ultimately racist, because they are trying to say, "It had nothing to do with slavery".
But it most definitely did. You can tell by today's Republicans who claim they support states rights but then fell free to intrude on states any time they feel like it, if states try to legalize something they don't like, etc.

My fundamentalist Christian brother and his wife home schooled their children here in Canada using text books from Texas which even managed to weave Bible verses into their math text books. I called the local board of education while they were still in grade school, to let them know that these children were not registered with the board when they moved into their district. They sent an inspector to check them out. The kids were registered, but the board was unable to stop their teachings, because their only criterion was that "learning is taking place." Years later, they moved again, and again failed to register their kids in the new school district. I called the board again. This time, their oldest child was now highschool age and the rules had changed. In high school, the criterion is more rigorous. So they were forced to send their oldest child to high school, and when their other children became highschool age, the board of education made sure that these children also attended high school.
Obviously, our relationship is strained. But I did this because I care about the kids and how they would integrate with the rest of society.

I watched a sci-fi show recently where the crew of the ship were watching some event unfolding many light-years away - and they went to assist at their "warp speed". Didn't anybody tell the writers that looking at something that far away was also looking that far back in time? This ignorance is endemic to the species with the occasional bright spot burning like a candle in the darkness here and there for a short time.

    • @jdgrahamo

Rand Huso Watching the TV show "Science Fiction Theatre" from the 1940's is almost scary for how they turn science into magical ideas. It has a very sketchy format, start with science and end with science fiction, which makes me wonder how folks understood the real from the fake in those times. The writers excelled at finding and leaving that bit of doubt that magic? works. There were only two or three channels in the day and a generation in the 40's grew up with that, I do not think there was a TV show that would have helped correct misconceptions from that oddly great show.

    • @silentpillager
      @silentpillager 8 лет назад +2

+Rand Huso travelling faster than the speed of light supposedly would make time go in reverse so it actually makes total sense, assuming warp speed is faster than light.

    • @Questron71
      @Questron71 8 лет назад +1

+silentpillager No it doesn't as a warp engine does not circumvent relativity directly but cheats by influencing the arrangement of spacetime. Nothing ever moves "faster than light" but the ship still reaches its destination sooner than a ray of light could do without having a warp drive... Stricty speaking the ship will not really move at all, it sits peacefully inside its normal space bubble, but the drive will move external space around this bubble and achieve the movement illusion.
You could compare it to a railway if the locomotive was nailed down in place and the rails would be shoved fore and aft... only 3 or 4 dimensional in effect.
But it has already been mentioned that to realistically use such an engine you also need some kinds of detection method that allows you to e.g. notice an object you might collide with sooner than you reach it or you might still collide, which means all ships with such FTL abilities can look at objects in some distance in real time and are not quite reduced to the abilities of the Hubble telescope which does look into the distant past.

That's like being shocked that Germany, Netherlands, and Austria, in certain cities, refuses to teach that chocolate can make you fat if over indulged in. Is it incorrect? Yes. Can it piss you off? Yes. Is it indicative of a larger problem? Not really. Most of our problems with math, science, and reading come from inner city districts, which I agree are lacking in funding, and passionate teachers. In conclusion, while I agree it's bullshit to teach such crap, it's equally bullshit to take a handful of states, and hold that as the national standard. We can not battle reactionaries, by being reactionary. This ain't a forest fire, we can't battle it with fire.

The plagues that wiped out millions and millions of people. The "donations" to the churches and all other religious buildings around the world , that are supposed to help the needy. are being used to help the people who run the organizations. Vatican City must be worth billions. All bought through donations. It will take more than us (people) to stop thinking about a "god" someone very wordly important must "step up to the plate" and abolish religions. Just like slavery in the 1800's . It has to be done, we as people will never "develop beyond " where we are at the moment. There are 100's of religions believing of 1,000's of gods. at the best possible odds, the chance of there actually being a god is !,000,000 to 1. That is a bet you will loose a buck on every time.. +Poseidon63 Has it occurred to you that Aronra is making an idiot out of you. He get paid by his followers to travel around Europe preaching their is no God? I wrote to him about this and he never replied. His Organisations claims to be non profit making, yet in the early to mid 2000s members of his team stole millions of dollars. When I point this out, no one says anything, the attacks on the Bible and God go on and on and on. It gets on my nerves reading these posts everyday that I mostly just delete them. Aronra is no different to you, me or anyone else presently alive. He was not alive 2000 to 6000 years ago to witness anything. I don't know why people believe everything he says? He is a con man making money out of his education. He uses RUclips to get his five minutes of fame. I cannot stand people like him. Why doesn't he fight proper causes, such as the USA healthcare where tourists get charged over £300,000 in hospital should they take ill? Or in the UK where 91,000 ill people have died after losing their sickness benefits, many found committed suicide or starved to death with nothing to eat in their own homes, or ill people put out on the streets of Britain in rent arrears after the Government stopped their sickness benefits. What about people in the USA like Aronra's followers after leaving school, go back and murder fellow students and teachers. They too have the same attitude, "There is no God, the Bible is a farce and so are the 10 commandments, They go back to School after reading this garbage and kill people" I am just about sick and tired of people like you and Aronra and anyone else, coming on Here acting as the Anti Christ Brigade and saying and doing nothing about causes like I have outlined here. Aronra has no idea if God exists or not, nor does he have any idea what happens when we die? If a church makes money out of God, it gets attacked by people like you, yet nothing is said about Aronra? Why is this? What about Satan Worshippers, why aren't you on Social Media attacking them?

I live in the UK so you'll have provide sources because I not heard that and I have lived here for 65 yrs..
"If a church makes money out of God, it gets attacked by people like you, yet nothing is said about Aronra? Why is this?"
Because first of all churches are tax exempt Aronra isn't, second most people in churches are emotional coerced to give money they can ill afford just so that these pastors, not in all cases, can live a lavish lifestyle,
"What about people in the USA like Aronra's followers after leaving school, go back and murder fellow students and teachers"
I think you find that most of them were christian.
      Here is an uncomfortable truth...........
The USA is the most religious country in the western world, but has the highest crime rate, murder rate, divorce rate, highest rape rate and 91% of prison inmates are christians.
Norway, a non religious country is a relatively crime free country as is Sweden, Denmark,Finland to name a few.
Religion is dumbing down the USA,50 yrs ago you were number 1 for technology in the world now you are number 17.And that's why it deserves to be criticized.
If you believe in nonsense, you are ignorant and need to be educated, and that's what Aronra tries to do.

Another firm called Capita are cashing in, one of its assessors was making £20,000 per month declaring ill people fit for work. These are areas that people should be attacking, Not God or the Bible. This is pure evil, Firms making monies out of the UK Tax payers whilst ill people end up dead. voxpoliticalonline.com/2015/08/27/known-number-of-deaths-while-claiming-incapacity-benefits-nears-100000/

+Poseidon63 The point is the deaths of ill people is wrong? Why haven't the UK Government been brought to justice over these deaths. They know that removing ill people from benefits will mean they have no money to pay to keep a roof over their heads, also that they cannot buy food or pay bills. They know employers will not take on ill people. It is planned to cause as much suffering as possible to the weakest in Society. ATOS are not Doctors that make ill people well, they are paid by the DWP to find all people fit for work. The monies go out of the UK and over to its headquarters in France and North America. They are worse than terrorists. I would rather see people fighting the likes of this and use their education in a positive way instead of these attacks on the Bible everyday and night. The people preaching this are known as the Antichrist Brigade. They get taught at school there is no God and come on here raving about it. They go on about Hamurabi and other things I do not understand.

I'm confused now having felt comfortable among peers eating Bubba Gump Shrimp while surrounded by Churches in Kona.
Argh, I'm kicking myself for not being able to see Aron speak in person while he was in this province.
He's a great ambassador for the USA and yes, should be governor. I just got back from the states, and his work has made me feel allot more comfortable visiting there. I hope to see him speak in Texas one day.
Thank you for helping me continue to educate myself Aron!

An Open Letter to My Country:
I love you, and although you are far from perfect, I am proud of all the things you have done right for the world and humanity, perhaps most notably setting the precedent of a stable representative republic as a viable form of government and building several basic human rights into the Constitution.
I am also proud that we have overall matured as a culture, improving our values and mores in ways that increasingly marginalize oppression and enhance equality of rights. The recent Supreme Court decision on gay marriage was an uplifting boon to my faith in the fatherland to fulfill ever more closely the egalitarianism that it so proudly touts to the rest of the world. With every such triumph, the United States becomes ever less hypocritical in its idealism.
I would like that growth to continue and my country to remain the world leader it has grown so accustomed to being, but my confidence in the likelihood of that happening is shaken by the fact that, amidst several steps forward, we seem to be taking one very substantial and perilous step backwards. That is the rise in prominence of religious fundamentalism and its unconstitutional influence on national politics.
Aside from being a slippery slope into the theocracy not at all dissimilar from that which has long plagued the Middle East, it contributes much to the intellectual ineptitude of far too many of our citizens. The United States cannot remain a world leader if it allows its people to become marred in misinformation, mythology, and irrationality.
So I welcome religious conservatives to exercise their personal freedom of worship that is the cornerstone of our successful government, but I also implore them to simultaneously respect the separation of church and state that is no less a part of what made this country great.
The loss of traditional privilege to oppress is not itself a form of oppression. It is equality. The unilateral inculcation of dogma asserted on its own presupposed authority is not education. It is indoctrination. Please learn the difference, so that the United States may continue to lead the world rather than descending into ignorant theocracy.
    Your loving but concerned citizen,
    Gregory H. Bontrager

The norwegian political party that gets it name translated into "The Consevatives" in english are more over on the economical conservative side, they are not connected that much with religous nutcasery. Their conservativism is more based upon economical responsibility.

When you explained how bad the state of education is in Louisiana, besides the horrid state of education in Texas, I already thought, that the conservatives are keeping the kids woefully ignorant to turn them into cannon fodder, as they are useless in any other serious endeavour... And then at 12:50, you confirmed that.
I feel so enraged by this unjust manipulation, yet I'm also helpless to do anything against it. I'm a middle-aged woman, living in the Netherlands. Nothing I feel, say or do will help this matter. And to make matters worse, my country is slowly getting infected with the policy ideas coming from America.
Specially after 9/11, it seems like my country has not even flinched and thought of things, even a little, to adopt the more (and obviously ridiculously) stringent measures to "stop" terrorism on airlines. The policy on what an ID looks like, and when you need to have it on you, are borderline idiotic now as well. Well, at least they took off the fingerprints for the standard ID... Passports still require it.
Imagine being treated like a criminal, just because you want to go to a non-Schengen country.
I'm glad you have the opportunity to travel and do these talks. Make people think more, always.
