  • Our place was row crop acreage before a group attempted a quick subdivision; it failed. So now back to agriculture. Using cattle to drop manure to get grass to grow on clay and gravel. We also discuss finishing beef on gulf coast and view on supplemental feeding. #grassfedbeef #regenerativeranching #homesteading #rotationalgrazing #farming #nola #batonrouge #gulfcoast #homesteadersofamerica

After a few years of Rotating your livestock like I think you are doing (assuming I understood things correctly) I suspect your forage will get better. And hopefully folks understand that the reason you want your cattle to drop manure and stuff in those fields is cause that fertilizes it naturally. And that keeps you from having to put down harmful chemicals. Your trying to think long term as well and build something that will be good and helpful down the road.

@@tritchie6272 yes, absolutely. Spreading the manure builds soil and that simply grows more grass. In this case the road area will give as another paddock which will allow us to give specific areas the correct amount of grazing and rest required for time of year, weather, number of head, etc.

You look like you have the beginnings of a very healthy grassland ecosystem with some good structural diversity. The scattered trees will benifit your grass growth What is your primary grass species?
