I do still keep real Powerwash in my kit and use it in lieu of a heavy duty degreaser or oven cleaner but this homemade stuff I use on everything. @tracyjulien3287 on slightly in this case. 1oz of water weighs 1oz. The alcohol would be very close. The soap would be slightly denser, not enough to make a difference
I can’t wait to try this. When I bought my first bottle of power wash I cleaned everything with it and it worked beautifully. Bottle is empty now and I keep forgetting to buy more. Thanks for this, I can refill it tonight.
this mixture is great to kill bugs, several years ago i had those stink bugs in my home, hearing that your not supposed to squash them because they emit a scent to draw more stink bugs i decided to make this mixture in my one spray bottle, i'd spray it on the bug, it foams up and smothers them. then scoop them up and out in the trash. it also works on other creepy crawlys too. i keep a bottle handy just for this, no toxic bug sprays.

I just literally discovered two days ago how to combine Dawn Power Wash with a Magic Eraser to scrub the water stains from my stainless steel kitchen sink! Very minimal effort and sink looks bran new. Years of marks were just gone! I use Power Wash to clean the tiles in my bedroom floor. So good!
I mix one part dawn, three parts vinegar and three parts water to make the best shower cleaner I’ve ever used. The vinegar cuts the body oils and soap/shampoo and the dawn is a surfactant/grease cutter. I got this from the net years ago and it works beautifully.
Remember to only buy the name brand, Dawn. We recently bought Kirkland Signature from Costco, and it is NOT the same at all! Takes way more soap than Dawn, and it still doesn't dissolve the grease very well.
The Kirkland Tide Pods are horrible too. My sons wife asked me how I was washing my cloths while visiting because the colors were bright. I use Tide Pods. Now that's all she uses.
I always thin my dish soap container with water cause it clogs up, plus saves $. For laundry stains I use Dawn +baking soda+peroxide mix. Let sit a minute. Now I have another use with alcohol! Thanks!♥️
I just put about 1/5 dish soap in a shallow dish fill it about 2/3 of the way up with water, gently mix it together and dip my sponge into the mixture as needed and it works great. I learned this from my ex sister in law that grew up in another country and had to find ways to cut costs for having a large family. I now have an adult child that uses the same tactic in his home. I was so thankful to learn some cleaning skills from her. It has helped me so much being a single mother raising my child on a single income. Ty for the video.
I like foaming handsoap. I got an empty dispenser from sa friend put enough dawn to cover the bottom then fill with warm water and put top on and swirl liquid to mix. That free dispenser is six years old and still working. Mix 10X a year X 6 years X$4 abottle is $240savings
If you spend the extra buck or so to get the liquid Dawn Platinum, it works even better. I was kinda shocked at how much better the Platinum is vs. the "regular" Dawn (which is way better than just about every other liquid out there already!)
Same. Platinum is better. I make my own cleaning ingredients using Dawn and dissolved Steramine tablets with vinegar or alcohol, depending on what I’m cleaning.
Thanks for sharing this with us. This is the steps I did.... straight into the bottle. Into measure cup Water Pour water into bottle. Dawn in measure cup & then into bottle. Alcohol in measure cup & swish around to remove excess dawn. Then into bottle. Replace nozzle & swirl around to mix in bottle. Worked great!!
I’ve had my power wash bottle for 2 years. I just had dawn dish soap and water. It works the same. I have another spray bottle with 70% alcohol, 4 drops dawn, rest water and that is my house cleaner, window, bathroom , and tile floors
Thanks so very much! My husband got me my first bottle of that foamy Dawn and I was amazed at how fast it cuts through grease. Yep, it’s expensive but I am hooked on it, now I am thrilled that I can make it myself. Thanks again for your research!
The top on the bottle is called a foaming soap dispenser or foaming pump. You might be able to find one fairly cheaply at soap making stores or even $1 stores that has a liquid hand soap in it.
Oh I thought it was just me. I use Palmolive in my Dawn bottle. Put just a little soap in and 90% of water. I didn't know about the alcohol. Love it! Saving me money. Can you do Comcast Internet next? Lol.
same for foaming hand soap. about a half inch of hand soap then water. If it's too thin add a little more soap. My bottle of soft soap has lasted yrs so far
I do something very similar with pet and person safe bug spray. I use the aerating type sprayer from other products. It zaps flies, mosquitoes, gnats, wasps right out of the air onto the floor where I can vacuum them up or let nature take her course outside. My secret ingredient is oil of eucalyptus and rosemary.

Great tip !! Yes that little spray bottle is very expensive so I'm definitely gonna make some of this stuff 😊 Thank you! And that's so true gas prices are way expensive too 🤨
Thank you! What a great tip! Just bought one of these for the first time, when all the refills are used up I know how I am going to make more! Thank you again!
I had an older pump (at least a year old) that suddenly stopped working when I put the pump on a refill bottle. Did all of this but also had to turn the tube upside down and run hot water in it to clear out soap clogging the tube. (Oddly it was not clogged until I switched bottles.)
My wife's name is Dawn and she does a great job with the dishes! 😂 Kidding aside, I've a small spray bottle at the kitchen sink, which I've used for a long time. Fill it with water, add a few drops of basic Dawn dish liquid, and spray my glasses with it, rinse under the tap and shake off. Glasses never get scratched from wiping! Not sure why everyone demands a foaming action. 🤔
My mixture of: 10 oz of Water, 4 oz Dawn and 2 oz of alcohol works well for me. Add the alcohol to water, then Dawn to alcohol/water mixture. Mix every so softly to reduce foaming. Ready to use as refill.
Dawn Powerwash is awesome! It cleans grease really well! I also often use Dawn, peroxide and distilled water as a cleaner and disinfectant. I’ll need to try this trick to help save money because you are correct - Powerwash is expensive.
I've been doing this also since rhe product came out. My concoction is mix some cheap walmart glass cleaner ( ie windex ) with 2 oz of dawn and you have a terrific replacement formula. The ammonia in the glass cleaner is a fantastic cleaner while the dwan is a fantastic degreaser. Works super duper. And smells good.
Yes but there’s no need for the alcohol for hand soap. Just fill your empty foaming soap container about 1/4 full of dish soap and fill the rest with water. Put cap on and shake.
You got to the point and demonstrated it well. I tried using regular dawn in the spray and it was too thick and didn't foam. I looked here, and in seconds got it working properly. Saved me lots of money. Thank you
🌸There's denatured alcohol in Dawn PowerWash, the Denatured is a solvent that is the secret ingredient that's makes the difference in the cleaning Power. It is different from regular isopropyl alcohol. You video is a great alternative, thank you Sir. 🙏
Denatured alcohol is just Ethyl alcohol with a lot of foul tasting ingredients added so that people won't drink it. Ethyl alcohol is the alcohol that we consume - i.e. Vodka.
This really works! I've been re-using the same Dawn Powerwash bottle for three years now using the same recipe. However, I put the Dawn and the alcohol in the bottle first, then I pour the water in slowly tipping so that it goes down the side without causing foam. Then when the lid is on, I shake it all up, and it's good to go.
I save B. And Bodyworks foaming wash containers and replace with this mixture without the alcohol. I keep this by the kitchen sink. I always have hand soap in a plain dispenser.
Thanks for the tip. The actual [not so] secret ingredient (it's listed first on the list of ingredients) is denatured alcohol, not isporopyl rubbing alcohol (which is about 10% water). However, isopropyl seems to work, and if you don't have any denatured alcohol sittiing around, it's cheaper.
I bought a 1.75 liter bottle of cheap vodka that still cost $15 but it does work like an astringent. I originally wanted to use it as a sub for perfumer's alcohol. I suppose plain vinegar, bottled lemon or lime juice would also do just fine for mixing with dish soap
It is GREAT for cleaning the trays and baskets from an air fryer. Generally these items should NOT be put in a dishwasher as eventually it destroys the non stick characteristics
I make this mixture to clean the bathroom and if there a lot of soap scum sprinkle baking soda and scrub, rinse well and dry works great very economical.
Well, you’ve been reading my mind. I was just wondering this past week how to make this hack. Didn’t say a word of it to anyone. LOL Thank you so much!
alcohol was what i was missing. i even fill up my foam soap dispenser at the sink with mixture, everybody like using my dawn up. so i put it in there too.
I had 2 black Labrador dogs sprayed by a skunk. I put each of them in the shower and washed them down twice with Dawn dishsoap. Took off the skunk oil and the smell. And it doesn't harm their skin. I always have Dawn and wasnt willing to wash Black Labs with peroxide (a suggestion I read and wouldn't have had enough for two dogs anyway).😊
Thanks! This is a huge money saver! FYI - stop buying the dishwasher rinsing solutions. Use white vinegar in your dishwasher’s rinse cycle compartment. Works like a charm. Also, that expensive toilet spray you’re paying $6 for is 3/4 water. Make your own by mixing 20-40 drops of essential oils with a small squirt of alcohol. Fill it up with water leaving room to shake it before spraying it on your toilet water. I call mine Shake & Spray. On average, a 1 ounce bottle of EO have 600 drops. A 1 ounce bottle of peppermint EO is about $7.50. You’ll have enough for at least 20 bottles. Your cost - less than $.50!
I finally figured out how to make mine foam up more like the original....I add a bit more alcohol than whet this recipe calls.for and it worked pretty well
The original works better on tough cleaning jobs ,but this one will do great for light duty cleaning !! Compared them both and this was my conclusion .

I had an older pump (at least a year old) that suddenly stopped working when I put the pump on a refill bottle. Did all of this but also had to turn the tube upside down and run hot water in it to clear out soap clogging the tube. (Oddly it was not clogged until I switched bottles.)
Hmmm, that IS weird.
I have been doing this for months 😊 I just read the ingredients on the bottle and saw alcohol was one of the main ingredient
Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for and your video is quick and straightforward.
So glad it was helpful!!
My wife's name is Dawn and she does a great job with the dishes! 😂
Kidding aside, I've a small spray bottle at the kitchen sink, which I've used for a long time.
Thank you The same formula will work to refill foaming hand washing soap bottles
Yes but there’s no need for the alcohol for hand soap.
Just fill your empty foaming soap container about 1/4 full of dish soap and fill the rest with water. Put cap on and shake.
@@LifeIsThePrayer My experience with my foaming bottles is it foams better with some alcohol.
@jstaffordii Yes Sir. It's a solvent. It's the special ingredient to cutting through the crud....God Bless 🙏
Where does one get denatured alcohol?
@tsci1739 Amazon, Walmart sometimes carries it, Home depot, etc.....
@@jstaffordii thank you so much!
Yes ma’am that’s what I do too.
I’m glad I can watch your helpful videos on my phone! This one is no exception! I just made up a batch and it works like a champ! Thanks for sharing!
I save B. And Bodyworks foaming wash containers and replace with this mixture without the alcohol. I keep this by the kitchen sink. I always have hand soap in a plain dispenser.
Thank you . I tried the watered down dawn. Clogged up. I managed to clean it out but had to buy the real thing. I won’t have to now!
Thank you.
I bought a 1.75 liter bottle of cheap vodka that still cost $15 but it does work like an astringent. I originally wanted to use it as a sub for perfumer's alcohol. I suppose plain vinegar, bottled lemon or lime juice would also do just fine for mixing with dish soap
Its hard to get denatured alcohol in some areas. I use it to clean my Sublimation printer.
I add a splash of dishwasher drying liquid - it works well
Interesting!
That I like, and we have plenty of all three ingredients! Thank you!!!
On the bright side ,foaming over, I had the cleanest kitchen sink.
I knew there had to be away to make it myself, thank you very much for the video, it was perfect.
So glad!!
Thanks so much! I’m just running out of my power wash but now I don’t have to go out and buy more 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✌️.
I love this stuff for cleaning class tables, windows, stainless steel, granite - you name it! It’s replaced almost every household cleaner I have.
Wow. This is amazing. Love DIY and saving $. Love the name of your channel. Thank you for this tip
You are so welcome!
We bought one bottle a yr ago and I've refilled it myself ever since. I also add my wife's essential oils.
I work at a grill I've been mixing this stuff for a year or so works great.
Well, you’ve been reading my mind. I was just wondering this past week how to make this hack. Didn’t say a word of it to anyone. LOL
Thank you so much!
Can’t wait to try this when I run out!
I had to come back to your video because it was simple and to the point! Thank you for this!!
Glad it helped!!
alcohol was what i was missing. i even fill up my foam soap dispenser at the sink with mixture, everybody like using my dawn up. so i put it in there too.
They are definitely listening!
Powerwash is awesome! Thanks for the hack!
Ok now!!! I’ve been using the chlorox wand but I want to find something else to use.
Thank you for this video. I discovered the powerwash at my cousins house and loved it. Did not love the price, but I do now! Much appreciated...😊
Awesome! Glad this was helpful
As good as we can be! Thanks for the info, hope you are good too!
Thank you... everything is going up so appreciate this Kathy from expensive upstate NY the other New York!❤
I love using this stuff ..
Where we are it's about $6 a bottle ...
I will definitely use your mixture
Wow, thats awesome!! Thanks so much for this. Nowadays its nice to save money anyway you can!! Peace and blessings!
You did a very good job with this video. Thank you for the tip.😊😊
Glad it was helpful!
I finally figured out how to make mine foam up more like the original....I add a bit more alcohol than whet this recipe calls.for and it worked pretty well
I just showed my dad this video, he is grateful 🙏 😂 He was complaining about how expensive it was and said "I could probably make this myself"
Ha!!
The original works better on tough cleaning jobs ,but this one will do great for light duty cleaning !! Compared them both and this was my conclusion .
Maybe because the original uses denatured alcohol instead of isopropyl alcohol like the refill does.
You’re such a good person for sharing this. TY
You are welcome!
Look at you doing the Lord's work by saving people coins...thank you.❤
Its also Great for prewash on greasy clothes. Used it on auto grease. Buy It buy in the gallon pump. I ❤ it.
My measurements were slightly off, but I've been using this for a while now and its really the best cleaner and degreaser
