I thought nobody could replace Charles Kuralt in this “On the road with Charles Kuralt”. Well Steve Hartman IS that man with these kinds of stories then and today, March 1st 2020. Good man!
When I heard the commentators voice at first, I thought that sounds like Steve Hartman. To my surprise, it was a very young Steve Hartman! I love what you do. Bringing the best of America, to light.
I sure am enjoying finding these stories and clips with Steve Hartman! Thank goodness for RUclips because I haven't had cable or local TV for 20+ yrs, so I had no idea that on the road was reinvented.
How did I miss this? Until 13 years ago, I lived in Moscow, ID, about 33 miles north of Lewiston, ID. I remember seeing David's face in the Lewiston Tribune the few times I picked it up (Moscow had its own newspaper), but I never knew what kind of column he did. And look at that fresh-faced Steve Hartman!!
This is the marvelous program. I am a hospice nurse and I know the story of each of my patients. If they are married or widowed I ask how they met their spouse. Many of my patients in their late 80s and 90s were USO doughnut girls or hostesses. These were local girls who volunteered, with the support & supervision of their families, volunteered for their local USO. I love the stories
I love this and what a great journalist that Steve Hartman is, so true the stories are in the phone books Hopefully they could continue this series God bless these wonderful people.
Oh what a Beautiful Story Thank You Pedro You Are So Blessed To Have Your Daddy Still And Thank You Sir For Picking Pedro And Sharing I Really Enjoyed This Sweet Story God Bless You All 💜💓💕💕💕 ☦🛐☮
Handsome couple he & his wife were. Of course we all have a history. It’s why there’s a history class in high school. Which I noticed was right behind Steve as he was standing at a real pay phone. Haven’t seen one of those in a while! I’ll take a human interest story any day. Thanks Steve. Great dart throw BTW!
I’m looking to do a RUclips channel and podcast on this idea and subject matter ! Pick up where this ends ! Iit’s fascinating ! I think everyone has a story ❤️ this mans story just proves it ! I hope he’s still alive and thriving !
This is basic journalism, the way I was taught it. When you had to find stories before the Internet. My editor used to say that everyone had a story, and a good reporter should be able to dig it out and write it.
Loved everything about this story. EVERYTHING!!! Steve Hartman, as a hair dresser, May I suggest you go back to parting your hair on the other side? Looking forward to another 25 years!❤️
Kids...that’s a phone booth using coins to make local calls through the operator (live person sitting in her desk booth-usually woman-on the other end somewhere in a city transmitted through phone lines.)
I love telling stories and talking to people about everyday life..., but this episode struck a chord with me because I have a phone number that I want to call but I'm scared. This particular number came to me in a dream, with no area code, which means it's from the state I live in. I've had this number for about three months now and still haven't called..., what is the person on the other end of the line going to think...? just some stranger calling. What would you do, would you call? I'm dying to know who's going to answer.
My brother was born after the 9 months..drs foult..my lovely mexico...anyways....my bro cant hear good even with a earpice on each side and he cant talk well so he has to explain a few times what hw wants to say and pple have to ask a few times what he means...but him and i can have a fluent conversation and pple trips out that i can talk exacly like him
those are the kind of people who are welcome and belong in America. not these free loaders that come here with there hand out looking for everything free. wish we had a few more Pedro's

Charles seemed to develop a connection or a bond to folks that he talked to.

I enjoyed how father and son communicated.
He was reading lips too.

BREWMASTER the freeloaders that are in the US were already here and white.
Native Americans (not American Indians) are the ones with a chip on their shoulder and a hand out. "If he's gonna get it, I am too!"
Thank you- his granddaughter

Sounds gay!
It is sad that there are no more phonebooks leads for this approach to getting stories. 🥲
