  • The Mini is more than just a brand, its a motoring icon. The current Cooper S even has a 5 door variant, with added wheelbase and a big 2.0 liter turbocharged engine for a wider breath of capabilities.
    But has the additional size and weight compromised the nippy handling and the overall look and feel of the Mini? Lets find out in this Episode of Route Hunters!

    We feel differently.
    To us, the Mercedes-Benz A250 AMG-Line hatchback is one of the best performers in the segment, offering a premium driving experience that rewards keen drivers. Its masses of grip thanks to the taut chassis & suspension setup means that you'll be at the edge of your talent long before the car gives in. And when you're not hammering it, the A250 provides an ambience that screams premium luxury.
    We eagerly await your response.

      No doubt, the A250 AMG Line is a great package, we have sampled it ourselves with the help of Karamjit Singh on the roads of Bukit Tinggi. And yes its plenty fast and has a capable chassis to handle the power. Great braking performance too.
      Having said that, we still insist that for a style conscious buyer, the Mini is the choice and the running cost is considerably cheaper compared to the Merc. And as far as outright agility, the Mini switches directions faster :)

      See, now that's where we disagree.
      The A250 AMG-Line isn't "one of the best," it simply is the best, as displayed by its strong sales and unflappable following. But where in its previous generation it lost to the BMW 1er in terms of overall ability, the current generation simply leads the pack in terms of outright capability. Bags of grip, bags of torque, and bags of feel - the A250 can almost call itself a hot-hatch, even though that class demands far more performance-focused development, as seen in the Renault Megane RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI, cars formulated specifically to go after enthusiasts.
      For a daily car that can sometimes be fun, the A250 runs rings around the Mini. And its rear doors don't look like an afterthought. 😊

      @@MalaysianMotoring We still insist that the most we can say is the A250 is the most rounded package for the money. But we can never say that its the best as that comes down to individual preferences.
      As a channel we highlight the best and worst a car has to offer, for its intended purpose. And you are right about the highlights of the A250.
      But we still stand by our verdict that the Mini is the style centric one, we think the doors have been nicely incorporated, although it did take a bit of getting used to. And on a tight and twisty road, its the Mini that will run rings around the others in its class. But only in this scenario, tight and twisty, low to mid speed corners (50-110kph)

    • @MalaysianMotoring
      @MalaysianMotoring 4 года назад

      We maintain that the A250 takes the cake here, thanks to its more forgiving attributes that plays better to its target demographic. Neither of these cars are the sharpest driving tools, but based on how far the A can be pushed (as seen with the A35 AMG), it's clear that Mercedes-Benz has the superior product here.

    I am confused about three or five doors, please help?

    • @RouteHuntersMalaysia
      @RouteHuntersMalaysia  4 года назад +1

      choosing between the 3 and 5 door really comes down to your needs for practicality. Two extra doors is VERY handy and there's usable space in the back in the 5 door version. Especially when you have an active social life and you often bring more than one friend in your car.
      But if you insist on the classic mini silhouette then we recommend the 3 doors, simply for aesthetic reasons.
