With the way everything's happening, Ive decided to put up ( can) some of the milk we would normally perhaps consume during the week. This way, If needed down the road? it's on the shelf in our pantry to either use or share. How to can milk at home. Yup. DIY canning milk. pressure canning milk can be done. Homestead skills.

My parents lived through the depression, so they instilled in me always have enough, or rainy day theory, planning ahead is not hoarding.
certainly NOT. My parents lived through the war.. dad in holland. Mom in NS Canada. Both we're very frugal and kept a cold room for garden harvests. That and if as youth ? we LISTENED to our grandparents? We knew to put foods up for a what if.. I was very pleased to hear a few of my cousins were like minded and keep provisions for a " what if" day as well.
Not many do these days and those are the one's i think of now.
Thanks for stopping by and visiting :-D
I like this page , but I think it is wrong to say that people don’t think of others . A lot don’t , but others do and they want enough to make sure they have enough to help others that aren’t smart enough to plan, but next time they will .... hopefully.
@@serdlc64 oiii..perhaps I said something wrong? I don't think I said ppl arnt thinking of others? I've seen endless generosity the last few months. So MANY ppl that have tons put up sharing with those that need. It's a beautiful thing

A bungi cord: brilliant!!! I'm glad you showed that. I've been fighting with my rings since I started!! THANK YOU!!
Yep, I'm 65, canned milk for years. Love you friendly ways, thank you. Yep, longer you can milk the more like carnation milk. Even added sugar to taste and got sweetened condensed milk, you can even add vanilla and other flavorings.
i was toying with the idea of adding vanilla.. Andy doesn't like the canned milk.. ( he thinks).. he's had it a few times in a crunch.. just didn't KNOW lol.. i do prefer it for baking as well. . glad you've joined us Julia :-D
How do you know how much sugar to add for sweetened condensed milk? Do you mean that the longer you pressure cook the more the milk tastes like evaporated? Length of time in pressure cooker for this and should we use whole milk for evaporated type taste?
@@gracehillgranny5445 hey🙂. The more fats in the milk..the more like evaporated milk it will taste. Ive not dine the longer method we touched on in video so I cant say that its quite like evaporated or not. We used 2 percent which resulted in a creamy homogenized milk.
@@gracehillgranny5445 never add sugar
How long have you stored yours?
😃😃😃Thank you! FINALLY someone who told me what HEAD SPACE TO USE! All the videos I have watched (4 in all) did NOT say how much head space! Kind of an important thing I think!🙂🙂🙂 SUBBED!🤗
This is great. USDA likes to rain on our parade. There hasn't been a case of botulism since 1970 something at a restaurant in MI. I was in a situation once many years ago, a great blizzard and a friend was over with her 2 babies and she couldn't go home. I was out of milk and she was out also. I lived out in the country but I called a neighbor down the road and they had a gallon of milk in their freezer. What a blessing to have good neighbors! Ever since then I always keep some dry milk for emergencies.
I have a 1943 Kerr canning book. It has canning milk in it. So they did once approve it in the states. And thank you for being a rebel, lol
You know I get so angry with people who use the hoarding word. The definition isn't stocking up or preparing. I would be a hoarder just because I put things by for the future. I think you are wise to can milk. Mom did it and it was in her canning book as a recipe. It doesn't taste like fresh milk but it isn't any worse than the commercial powdered milk. The old timers made cheese or canned so you are wise. Those who bought up all there was on the shelves were just panic buying and inconsiderate so you sure aren't in that category. If you are prepared that fear won't drive you. It is wonderful that you are putting out these videos so others can be prepared for any emergency.
That's so kind of you. THANK YOU 👍😊 we've been WITHOUT before..it drove me to be better prepared. started with store bought can's..led me to looking into ways to do it cheaper and that led me to pressure canning. took courses, learned first online from others. it's everyone that teaches eh? so so many are trying to get the word out. time to go back to yesteryear and take charge of what we eat. buy on sale.. process for tomorrow TODAY!!.. it's so cost effective.. especially if you garden. i'd love to see your mom's canning book.. is it an oldie? do you recall the name?thanks for supporting our channel.. it all helps keep us going. I know i've gotten a few friends and family's minds turned to starting to prepare for tomorrows.. but man.. wouldn't you love to get them all on board? lol.
@@PeggyAndAndyPaige I wish I could find mom's canning book. She has passed and it wasn't in her things. I always figure if it is on the grocery shelves we can do it. Someone had to do it first to cause the manufacturers to find a way to profit from it. The FDA really doesn't care and they don't have the time to test everything out there. When we can it is basically an autoclave so we sterilize the foods if it is done right. I hear lots of things and just shake my head.
WOW will definitely be doing this. I love the milk bags. If we in the US did that there would be so much less plastic in the landfills!
I canned milk and pressure cooked it for 15 min past the jiggle. Two syphoned but the seals were still strong months after and the milk tastes so good! I use it for rice pudding and any other recipes, like cream soups, and I will do it again! It is a money saver for sure! Love your energy and videos!
Thanks for sharing Ingrid? i'd go crazy without my pantry shelf milk lol. thanks for supporting our channel with watches and comments
I am 67 when I was a child we got our milk in a bag in a box a lot larger then yours. My mother kept the bags and cleaned them made diapers, she used flannel and one layer from the outside is where she put the plastic from the bag. Diaper and plastic pants in one. I am thinking of making pads for my granddaughters for a time we might need them. I get wine once in awhile in the box so I have the bags. Just a thought
Sounds like a smart idea. And very appreciated by your grands if needed
Canadian lady here🙂👋 Hello.
I can remember when my children were born that some of my friends and family when they had children would use Carnation evaporated milk to feed the babies.
Can you imagine if the government told people it was safe to can your own milk at home how much money these mothers would have been saving?!
Maybe that is why this is one of the items they don't like to say you can, but yet go to the grocery store and there is canned milk on the shelf.
welcome fellow canadian :-D There are LOTS of foods the gov't doesn't want us to put up for the very reason you mentioned. they then state it's an unsafe product.. but how they get away with it? it's NOT BEEN TESTED so isn't safe.. i am a rebel canner BUT i don't mess with swelling products like pasta, rice, breads, ...just research..your kitchen your rules WITH logic and testing.. we do cream cheese and butter as well.. i also dry oven can our flour to keep it safe for years... and rice in dry oven canning. none of which is recommended by the powers that be.. yet our great grannies have done so well before the judging. canned milk? is over to top awesome in baking as well.. i will reach for it when baking rather then fresh. lol.. and yes.. i recall mom's using evaporated milk.. or even making there own evaporated milk. Gov't control over our foods has been going on for two generations now and well.. lets cut that control lol.
I know this is an old comment but I see the same with pasta. Sure as heck chicken noodle soup and Chef Boyarde on the grocery store shelves isn't there?
Hi, I'm so glad I found ur channel! I have my canner, jars, meat, beans, funnel, lifter and of course milk, but I've been scared to try doing some actual canning, and so I've been searching RUclips and was very happy to find that you was canning milk, which is something easy enough for me to try and since my husband is itching to help, in the morning we'll can milk and maybe even a few quarts of meat. Thank you so much for uploading this very helpful video.
as long as you follow your canners instructions... and guidelines for processing times for meat? you got this. i was so nervous first time doing meats.. afterwards? i declared it one of the easiest things to can EVER lol lol . don't over tighten the rings.. just finger tight.. you can re finger tighten once you remove them... then remove fully the next day. ( important not to store with rings on ) oh wow you's are in for a world of " what can we can next) lol excited for you's. and WELCOME to our lil youtube family.
Hunny...your only scared cause you have not done much canning. Here you are 3 years in...jars full of good stuff to SAVE your life n those you love. That's one fine super power you acquired. Well done. What's next????
Good to see you back I haven't seen you back in almost a year
I saw your video last year and started canning milk because I had acquired extra. After experimenting several times I decided to pressure it a full 15 minutes on 10 lbs (used quarts). It made a delicious creamy evaporated milk even with 2% milk. I started making my own flavored coffee creamers. I just take a canned quart of milk, put it un a jug and add coffee syrup flavoring of choice then complete with regular milk. This makes an awesome coffee creamer just as good as any you can buy at the store but way cheaper. Now a days I can milk just for this purpose. Of course if needed , I have the milk available for cooking and making ice creams. So far 9 months is the longest I have had any on the shelf. It does want to separate so I give it a shake ever so often. By the way never had a jar not seal. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh man.. comments like this one right here? fills my heart. love sharing how to put our foods up with you all. ok so you took the milk to the next level for coffee creamer.. i've heard it can be done but i've not ever done it myself..we hate cream in our coffee.. BUT..my visiting friends love it....ok..i'm sold... next milk batch? im making coffee creamers lol.. see how sharing benefits EVERYONE. thank you so much for letting me know how it's going with yours. x0
Hey, I bet you could can it up with your favorite flavors right in the milk and make it ready to use!
I just opened a jar from 2020 and its delicious
Never thought you could.
I have been researching canning milk and you have finally cleared up this muddy water for me! It has been so difficult for me to find someone who is actually canning milk for drinking and not just for coffee or cooking and you have given such clear instructions that I know I can do this!
So happy I have found your channel!
Watching you from Wartburg, Tennessee!

Hi, glad our video helped. 🙂
Great info! Looking forward to experimenting!!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Just found your video it’s already two years old but I can my whole milk for 45 minutes it comes out nice and rich and creamy and has a beautiful caramel color
I've only ever done it this way..it works for us. So you take it 45 mins PAST pressure? I've heard it's like carnation milk slightly past reaching pressure.
I wish there was more honest and kind people like you folks in this world .
why THANK you :-D
I'm from the states. Love your video!
hey from the states :-D our feet are here in ontario canada. Welcome :-D thrilled the video helps. :-D handy to have on hand.
First time viewer . You are so funny. Really enjoyed. And i will be caning some. 👍😊
I'm a new canner, just started canning this year. I was floored to see people canning milk since we are "not supposed to can dairy". But it makes sense, if the stores can sell it, why can't I make it. I agree our government has kept so much from for the sake of their own pockets and control over the people. I am going to be canning butter/ghee, and am excited to try this and make my own creamer for coffee since it's so expensive in the store and my husband and I both use it in our coffee. Also we make a lot of sausage gravy since my husband is from GA, will be great for that!! Thanks for the video and information!
New to your channel. Like the way you teach! 🙂. Will be watching for new posts. Learned a lot.
Awesome! Thank you! im just recovering from knee replacement so my cannings way behind. will have my andy do it up and i'll coach him from the shadows lol.. we both love canning. welcome to our channel

Wow I didn’t know you could can milk I subscribed and look forward to future videos.
would prob help on the road.. wouldn't need refrigeration until opened... use up in coffee or drink with a meal. When home, try and get a dozen put up
I really enjoyed your presentation!! I have marked your site to KEEP!
Good morning, I was blessed with 12 gallons of whole milk yesterday so I knew I had to find information. First batch was almost lost due to using anchor hocking lids(😞) . did manage to save it though!! THANK you for sharing your knowledge. !! Be BLESSED
Sorry for delayed reply. I had a knee replaced and fell behind on youtube. Glad you were able to recover your milk. I hate bummed lids. . Nothing steams me more then faulty lids
I save any anchor hocking or off brand lids for dry canning. They are a last resort! If anchor hocking is going to sell canning jars, they should at least make reliable lids! Why bother making cheap lids for your jars? Just add an extra 30 cents per case! 🙄
12 gallons of milk gifted? That IS a blessing!
I really enjoy watching you and your husband share your canning skills with us. God bless.
Thanks so much maria. lots more coming
Very informative demonstration. I did not hear how many minutes you processed them in the canner. Thank you.

Milk in a bag, never seen that before!
Dam weird ain't it
Lol. In 3 sleeves inside a bag. We can still get the jugs but usually more expensive
I am from Southern California. When I was very young, my aunt and uncle got milk in a big white cardboard box with a big thick plastic bag inside with milk in it. The box had a round hole where the bag could be pulled through to the outside and the milk was dispensed with a neat valve. The box and the milk was stored in the refrigerator. That milk was so delicious ❤
Had it in the Marine Corps.
Good how to video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
a must in our home.. when we run out of milk? it's a drive into town.. at HIGH prices. it's saved us many a trip into town having it on the shelf. thanks for watching Michael

I canned meat and veggies several years ago. I started again in June! I am so canning addicted, I can for necessities, but also because it's my new hobby! It relaxes me and makes me feel good about myself! I just want to can everything possible!
Canning milk will be great for mac & cheese, soups, etc. So many times, my refrigerated milk goes bad even before the exp date. Canning in pints will give me exactly what I need by portions!
I can't wait to do your French fry cut potatoes for the air fryer!

@@cookiemama4 this is a rebel canning method so you know lol.. 1 inch headspace.. be sure you de-bubble really well.. zero bubbles.. use a chop stick or wooden skewer. 1/2 pint jars are recommended. wipe with vinegar on paper towel. Process in hot water bath .. 25 min.. then let sit 10 mins.. then remove to towel covered counter. ( this is for 1/2 pints) doing a video this coming week with step by step.

@@PeggyAndAndyPaige I absolutely LOVE your videos!I want to for the first time can milk. I have WHOLE milk and says organic. Please can you tell me
Is this ok to can and how will the whole organic milk be once canned and opened to drink? Process time same for whole milk? Your the best!!
@@Judten1 personally I don't mind the milk for drinking. ANdy does NOT . So we mainly use it for cereal, coffee, cooking, baking. I still use fresh for andys glass. Do up same process for a few quarts. Decide if you want to go ahead with large batch canning I enjoy ours . Glad your enjoying the videos 🙂
Oooh, I'm so excited to find out I can do this! My son and I are the only ones in the house, and we don't go through a lot of milk. If I buy a gallon, half of it goes bad before we can use it, and I can't bring myself to pay so much more per ounce for the half-gallon or quart. This will be great for keeping milk on hand and saving me the money and waste.
we LOVE using it for baking.. saving the fresh for drinking. Have kept a jar or two in fridge to keep cool and enjoy drinking as well.
If you put your milk on the top shelf in back of the refrigerator, it will last longer. You can also freeze milk.

Welcome aboard!😀 I'd be lost without my pantry milk, and butter. Litterally. Love having seasoned canners along.. thats where good idea's are born from lol
First time here. Was looking for a canning video for regular milk, not evaporated or condensed. I've not seen bag milk before for home use, but pretty sure your not in the states here either. Canada? Loved the info. Thank you. Think I'll just have to check some more of your videos.
I will definitely try your method to get regular drinking milk. Evaporated milk is fine for cooking but I wouldn't want to drink it.
I don't use enough milk before it goes bad, this is perfect!
we live about 12 mins down the highway from town.. a SMALL town ( we love it) but prices are refected to that of cottage towns.. ( high) so when we run out? these jars? have saved me so so many times till the grocery was open or even a few days till we run in again.. and cathy??? if for nothing else?? BAKING.. omg it's sooooo good in baking as well. glad you found it.
I'm gonna try this. TFS.
I had no idea you could do this! I’m not from a family that ever did any canning so my knowledge base is pretty thin. My wife is a farm girl and has lots of canning background but not with milk.
Love your content! Glad we found you!!
Take care fellow Canuck 🇨🇦!!
i do believe... canning is going to make A FAST comeback lol
Paige family Homestead Our Journey back I think you’re correct. Lisa and I are what you may call “moderate preppers” we have enough food and clean water in storage for 6-8 months “plus” 2 freezers. Everything is commercially bought food though and I think this was a wake up call for even us to start canning vegetables and such.
@@PeggyAndAndyPaige

I also can milk but I use whole milk. And I can it in both quart and 1/2gallon jars. The "butter" comes to the top. Then can be lifted out. No problem. Be aware whole milk will not be "white", but slightly off white. Still tastes like fresh.
i think??? what you call " whole milk"? is what we call homogenized aka " homo" ? i can't ever stay without some put up.. it's saved our hiney's manyyyyy times lol
I've never canned milk before and at 67 it's a little late in the day for me but what the heck I'm not to old that I still can't learn. Love your video's and yes I'm learning.

I'm milking a cow and would like to save some milk
Thanks
I have pressure canned for 15 minutes at 11lbs of pressure before and it did taste more like evaporated milk. I thought it would taste like regular milk so my kids were disappointed. I was fine with it for cooking: kraft macaroni and cheese, oatmeal, protein shakes, etc...
good to know maria.. i've only ever just brought to pressure and turned off.. .. very close to reg drinking milk when chilled. heard by processing it was more like a cream for coffee... will need to test a pint or two for friends that use cream.
Thank you. This is great🥰
I'm a Statey down in Vermont a HUGE dairy state, and will be buying my homestead soon, hopefully with a few Dexters. I'd LOVE to can my own fresh raw milk for winter and when I dry off my cow before her next calf. Thanks for the video, and support your local dairy! Best wishes, stay safe and healthy up there.
hey exciting days ahead for you's :-D when using farm milk? just remember.. my 2 percent? ended up like a homogenized. so expect a thicker milk then with what you start. i love it for baking and cooking.. i enjoy it cold for drinking but andy not so much.
do a few test jars to see how you like it next day once jars are safe. it's still good regardless.. but just so you know what to expect if using it as a substitute for drinking.
Like 27....nice sharing dear
love your return visits :-) and your craft/ art
Best time to learn canning, thanks for step by step illustration
your very welcome, thank you for your visit and support . hope this video is of use to you one day.
I noticed the seal on your canner was bubbling. When I was around 7 my grandmother's pressure canner wasn't sealing properly so my dad put some lapping compound on it and spun the lid on it for about 90 minutes in tell both surfaces became bright and shiny. My aunt uses it to this day.
I noticed the issue with the seal also. thank you for sharing, now if mine ever did that I know how to fix it
Thank you for your insight and experience. You must be in Ontario area...bag milk. I'm in the mild mild west...no matter where one lives in Canada we need to preserve food for what is coming. God bless. I have canned butter but it was advised to pressure can for 75 min. It changed the butter a bit which is not horrible but it's probably similar to canning milk that long..it just changes it. I am going to try for a shorter process time maybe. Have you canned butter with shorter processing? Thank you

I watched another video and saw this one pop up over to the right. Wanted another opinion on canning milk. I'm a "non truster" too so, I thought, "oh yeah I'm doin' this for sure now" lol. Omg you made me laugh and you folks would be fun to hang out with! We drive past you on the way to our cottage by Sandbanks. Thank you for the info :)
Hope you enjoy. i swear you will NOT be sorry you've added this to your canning "do's".. it's saved me so many times ..i don't mind it chilled for drinking. Andy not so much.. but would and could in a pinch. i love it better for baking ( and leaves the fresh for drinking)..but like i said.. i like it.. he doesn't.. if he was stuck he would suck it up as well lol.. sandbanks is such a beautiful area. Do us a favor? subscribe and share the video if you can. helps us with youtube suggesting us more with more subscribers. cheers and have a blessed rest of your weekend 😊
@@PeggyAndAndyPaige Thanks again. Already subscribed! Can't wait to go through all the videos. God bless you :)
Another good video lots of imfo thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Deedee 😀 it's a must in our pantry for sure.
I live in mid-Michigan USA and we haven't had bag milk in a really long time. Man, I miss that.
we can still get the jugs, and cartons.. but i find storage space and convivence with bags? is the best for us. . get more for your buck buying in bags as well. .. however.. prices are pretty high.. so it's time i got more and did more up for tomorrow's..lol. having it in the pantry? has literally saved our hiney's more times then not.
I'm a first time viewer and like so many other folks here, I didn't know that milk could be home canned. You two are just the best. I'm looking forward to canning my milk at home for my family before we can't get it in the near future. Thank you so much for teaching this skill. I'll be keeping an eye on you :-)
wow Barbara im really glad this helps. We've been putting milk up as a reg staple in the pantry and man it's saved us so many times. Andy HATES it for drinking but we both like it for coffee and i LOVE it for baking. for drinking? if it's cold? i don't mind it AT ALL. personal tastes.. but.. push comes to shove and it's all you have? YOU LIKE IT LOL. thank you for subscribing to our channel. it helps so much more then ppl realize :-D
I canned whole milk today and mine turned a tad bit dinghy! Next time I'm going to do it like you do and temove the canner from the burner to let it cool down. The other video saod to just shit the burner off and leave the canner on the hot burner in vcd which I think ot over processed the milk!
cher i think so as well.. normally i just flip off and walk away.. but milk? is canned differently right from the get go.. specific in turning canner off as SOON as it reaches pressure... so by removing from heat source? it eliminates that extra cooking process as it cools.. hope you try again.. it's saved our hides so many times having it in pantry
I think I just fell in love! You're so fun. Heading straight over to FB to like your page and then grabbing a couple of jars to can some milk for the first time ever.
Hey Moon :-D Do please Subscribe and do andy's ding ding ding lol.. glad your enjoying the video's. and that milk? has saved my tush so many times.. so many LOL
Can't wait to try this. You did a good job explaining the process. Thank you for sharing!!
Glad it was helpful! :-D Thank you for commenting and supporting us. :-D that milk? has saved us many a time.
as much as i LOVE paying full price for store bought white water ...im currious if this method would work with fresh raw milk ?.. times are precarious right now and cant see them getting any batter any time soon ... travel restrictions will ensue as they do in the states so stocking up on the cows milk would be a fabulous way to stay under the radar ... will have to try this .. thank you for teaching me that i can CAN milk ... and want to say hello from the west .. Manitoba ... hope you stay safe and your move goes well ... look forward to seeing more of your great videos in the future as i binge watch the past videos ...
a few are asking about raw milk. i've NOT.. however i can't see why not. keep in mind.. a 2 percent ends up like a homo milk. i'd try a few pints. what have you got to loose? sample.. it will NOT taste the same.. but can be used in baking/cooking if your not pleased with flavor. me? i love it. i start with 2 percent. once cooled again in fridge? i could drink it down.
Awesome video. I knew you were Canadian once I heard HYDRO lol.. I live in the states and I still slip and call the power here Hydro. Keep it up 👍 new subbie here. Cheers!
Oh wow! lol thanks for joining us :-D i get comments all the time about the " hydro" about the " bag milk" and about us saying " about" and " eh" lol ha ha ha. again.. thanks for the support to our channel :-D we are celebrating just just getting monetized.. and are moving in under 2 weeks :-D thats when we will have megga content.
Love Rebel canning
So do I lol.. Some? i won't do.. but..I must say.. I trust the Grandma's methods far more then then leaving it up to the gov't to decide what i may can or not.. like grandma's did.
No more 'Murican dairy due to trade wars... Love ur channel btw! Fellow Ontarian living in Alberta now.. also a rebel canner!
well hello fellow rebel :-D lol I'm glad your enjoying our channel :-D Are you noticing a shortage of jars at all out your way? I know those in usa are.. and usually what they have? we also have a few months later.... get your jars stocked.
@@PeggyAndAndyPaige actually no...and I've been stocking up on them.. Canadian Tire has a huge tower display as it's canning season.. the Safeway by me was low... but the CT as I said & other stores are loaded with jars & accessories. They did however have only 2 bottles pickle crisp left. And despite pandemic our farmers market has been pretty decent & prices only bit higher than I expected. Only persons NOT gouging were the Hutterites.
I will tell u this tho..much harder to grow out here...dry & windy..loooonng days...cold nights.. dry... better if I had a greenhouse.
@@catg714 have you seen the DIY greenhouses on pintrest? Perhaps a builds needed? 😄
great home canning milk it looks good
excellent for mac n cheese , baking , or coffee. not bad for drinking when cold either.
That is awesome! I have never thought of that!
i think?? in time? this method will be VERY helpful
@@PeggyAndAndyPaige that's scary but good to know!
