  • Today (8 April 2022) The #SalvationArmy will hold a service of thanksgiving for the life and ministry of General #JohnLarsson - the man who served as our international leader from 2002 to 2006.
General Larsson was a faithful and humble servant of God who shared his gifts of writing and music throughout the Army world. He was the author, among other literary works, of Doctrine without Tears, The Man Perfectly Filled with the Spirit, Spiritual Breakthrough, 1929 and Those Incredible Booths.
In this video, recorded in 2020 at The Salvation Army's International College for Officers, General Larsson himself reflects on his life, music and written works.

      Why???
He was the leader of the international church known as The Salvation Army. A church at work I over 150 countries. A church organised under military principles. It's ministers are officers, it's fully dedicated personal are soldiers and then adherents.
General John Larsson was a well loved well honoured much respected leader of God's people who worship and serve Him in the ranks of The Salvation Army.
The organization founded in the east end of London in 1860's by General William Booth the first general of those to follow him on their co commitment to lead those under their command to live by the biblical principles

@@amsodoneworkingnow1978 Military principles may be okay if based on the Bible, but I don't see the need to apply modern military terminology for the naming of the 'officers' as you cite when the New Testament already provides the God-inspired names of bishop, pastor, evangelist, teacher, deacon and so forth. Do the Generals and 'officers' carry out the same duties as would bishops, teachers, prophets and all the Biblical examples? Having lived in Northern Ireland and Israel where war is such a part of daily existence I am not sure if I'd be drawn by the military tone, even if it can be substantiated by Scripture, as love covers a multitude of sins, not necessarily judgement and warfare, even if they are regarded as "spiritual." It's just the perception it gives out to some people, which may have been more acceptable in Victorian Britain.
But, hey, each to their own. I know some who run around calling themselves "apostles" and who is to stop them? As long as they claim a good reason for doing so, it will go down okay.
I always mistake them for traffic wardens when I see them out and about in my town.
