I actually liked the cast this time around. Even Etie’s and Celine’s lowers voices really grew on me, and of course finally hearing the lords in all their glory in a mainline game was great. Ike and Sigurd were great as always.
It's clear that the VAs had alot of fun voicing these wacky characters. Very cute that Kiera tweeted the VAs too. With how much shit English VAs get, they genuinely appreciate it.
If she ever goes back to play Echoes, I wonder what her initial reaction will be to that game not having dual audio, and then her reaction to how that game’s voice acting is near immaculate. Also, did she ever find out that Laura Post is also Catherine from Three Houses?
a lot of people dont give EN voice acting a chance, its really grown bc of Three Houses EN dub, i honestly switched to watching mostly EN dubs for games, Engage is just another example how its really grown once you've given it a chance yeah, some may not translate well to english like the cutesy voices, but i like the variety of voices honestly
Real shit though, English voice actors being automatically 'bad' is such an outdated thing from like the ol' 4Kids days, there are so many talented voice actors with amazing performances nowadays. Just because it's not exactly the same as the JP voice doesn't mean it's a bad interpretation. It's just a different take on the character, and I don't think the original actor's interpretation of the character HAS to be imitated for it. It's like if you expected Will Smith to try to imitate Robin Williams as the Genie in the Aladdin live action remake instead of creating his own, unique take on the character the way he did
Dude. 4kids literally has some of the best voice actors of the time who are still working in the industry today. At least with 4kids I can understand why they cut out what they did since most kids wouldn't handle some of the topics looking back.
@Slashser Yeah. Mainly the stuff that is too Japanese or anything mentioning religion and death. Nothing like outright changing the total feel and context of the scenes outside of what is necessary
The thing is that the VA’s commit to the bit and put their entire balls into the delivery’s which makes it soooo good and they sound like they are having fun. Because if they don’t commit to the joke or are committed to the dialogue then it can come off as cringey or just incredibly weak.
I wouldn't be surprised if English vtubers when they just started becoming a thing, with Kiara being among the ones at the helm, they were scoffed at for exactly same reasons. She'd understand better than most how important it is to give someone a chance. I'm a Korean and I'm all for supporting EN dub too. Long ago dubbing anime was considered normal in Korea, albeit with Japanese culture washed off, and the localized versions of popular shows like Slam Dunk and Inuyasha formed entire cultures. Then with more internet connectivity people started learning about the Japanese versions, and too many didn't stop at just appreciating the original dub. The Korean dub got a lot of hate like "doesn't fit" "sounds like a granny" "exaggerated unlike the JP dub which is exactly natural" (which by the way anyone should know is absolutely wrong) and watching a dubbed show became a topic of mockery. Sounds familiar, right? It took a LOT of hard work by VAs and VA agencies as well as things like supports from many game companies providing KR dub to bring things back up to dubs being widely considered a valid option and apart from the meanest people accepting the existence of dubs at worst. So I really hope EN dubs will get more love in the future too.
It surprised me seeing how many VAs shared with Persona are on this game, ir makes sense but it still surprises me I love the English VA of Persona 5 because most of the memes comes from there, maybe if I get this game I'll try on English sub
I mean if you consider pretty much all the fire emblem games from the last 10 years awakening to Engage you will find dam near the whole persona 5 cast
Yunaka's VA is excellent, not to mention any impressions Yunaka does in Engage is does by the same VA Laura Post. Also the one I most immediately recognized was Veyle as Towa from Cold Steel.
Kiara plays Fire Emblem RUclips: Honkai Impact 😅 Thank you for that wonderful clip to summarize Tenchous acceptance arc. Very often it's really just an issue of what you're used to. But yeah, especially for the cutsy girls and young boys the JP VAs often sound more fitting. On the other hand I almost always prefer western VAs for adult male characters.
Honestly I wanna say most anything dubbed in the last 5-10 years is probably a decent dub done by legitimate voice actors and teams who are fans before that it can be hit or miss on one hand like black bullet where i literally cannot see kagetane as his Japanese voice actor or ghost stories that flooped so hard the Japanese company sold the rights to it and it got rewritten into a hit comedy for the English dub and on the other hand you get 4 kids and the likes
If Kiara's not sure about what she needs to do internally / within Hololive Production re:voice acting, I bet Nene could help since she was credited as Momosuzu Nene for her work in "Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha". She's probably not the only one, either. Obviously the EN/DE voiceacting world or HoloEN might have other concerns or complications, but at least it can be done in Japanese.
I find it so common that people who hate on dubs always go into them negatively and frown upon any little thing that's different because "different=bad". I'm so glad Kiara is a sensible person at least.
At the same time, you compare characters like Camilla who just sounds better in Japanese whereas the English VAs sound too old or just trying way too hard to be bubbly for an older more mature character.
So you prefer the cutesy english voice? I don't know, man, it's more about listening to something you understand. I really don't buy your reason. I think there's a better reason out there for being an english dub guy, because it certainly has better merits than being "less cute than japanese voices".
@@lionelk.y7233 I get what you mean. It’s to the point where it feels more like a character trope rather than a personality trait. And I know those two things can be interchangeable, but high pitch cutesy voices are becoming too overdone. Much like how “Ara-Ara” voices are starting to become overused. I think the English voice acting in modern game releases for big IPs like Fire Emblem are pretty ok. The most egregious thing back in the day was how bad game companies were at casting cute character voices, but that's gotten way better.
The only thing that sucks about the English dub is Panette pretending to be a noble doesn't work as well in English because of how she changes the way she speaks in Japanese.
As an Asian weeb/gamer, I'm not actually huge fan of anime English Dubs, and I agree that Sub is mostly better, but there are some exceptions especially when it comes to playing video games, I played them but it's not only depending which voice dub is good, but it's also depending on the majority of the players, there are some games that provided both English and Japanese voices, but if the majority of the players mostly play in English, I guess English is ftw, vice versa to Japanese. So yeah we concluded that it which voiceover dub is better was depending on the majority, even anime fans/gamers out there who mostly watched animes in subs, but playing anime/Japanese games in EN dubs like Xenoblade, Persona, Final Fantasy, Danganronpa, and more, and it's not my personal opinion, but it's a fact.
I wonder if HoloEN is having difficulty finding more talents. Would explain the hiatus of new debuts since Council... meanwhile HoloStars have about 5-10x bigger pool of fans to get auditions from.
They are probably really picky (like most jobs) they are probably looking for the right group of 5. *To be sincere, the reason I usually play with japanese voices now is what I've been noticing in FE Engage.* Some character traits and tropes are completely lost in translation. Framme's Support with Alear is super weird in english. Thankfully for me, I know some japanese, so it was easy to get that she is cheering like Alear is a japanese idol. Hortencia felt kind of obnoxious in english, which is what usually happens with himedere characters in dubs because it's hard to get the stuff they say in japanese to sound endearing in english. Can't change my mind, JP all the way and even a decent EN dub will not change my mind unless the game are made with English as first dub (Devil May Cry or Bayonetta for example). Probably because of anime and as not native I really can't stand EN voice in Japanese products anyway I appreciate Kiara open mind about this but I can't really delete from my mind the cringe EN dub I heard too many times
