I hope they make those silicone keycaps a permanent item for sale. I wanted them, but was not about to pledge to the Kickstarter for the board and all that money just for the free caps lol.
That material used for the squishy keycaps is very similar if not the same as the switches on the oven the previous owners of this place left. The rubber used broke down with the oils from frying foods on the stove, and began to become mushy. I imagine the same would happen with the small amount of oil your fingers produce to keep your skin moisturized on the keycaps with how frequently they are used. Oils and certain plastics and rubber really don't mix sometimes and they deteriorate rapidly.
I backed one of the older Kickstarters for a model with a numpad on the left, because it's such a unique layout. After having it for 5 months or so, I would recommend any similar Epomaker/Skyloong board for people who would like a nicer looking, well priced but not high end board, especially if it has hotswapping. I've found it to be a perfect general starting board for collecting/trying switches and different keycap styles.
To anyone interested, I have had a Sharkoon keyboard for about 9 years with their version of the rubberized keys. They only give you 8 of them, but they have held up perfectly with any discoloration able to be cleaned off. Never gathered dust. Not too much. You shouldn’t see white anywhere, just a light sheen.
