This music is perfect in back-drop to the introduction of the lugubrious Noah Cross. J.Goldsmith did this score in 10 days? Imagine if he'd had a whole month. Thanks Jerry G. Your genius is appreciated. MSA
I've been taking a nostalgia trip through the soundtracks of the 70s these past few days...that razor's edge period when Bernard Herrmann wrote his last...when the studio system was floundering...when a coke head like Julia Phillips could produce "The Sting", "Taxi Driver" and "Close Encounters" in a couple of breaths...When John Williams still flowed easily from Jazz-Funk (Cinderella Liberty) to avant-garde (Images) and back to high Romanticism (The Cowboys, Star Wars)...when Jerry Goldsmith produced score after groundbreaking score and kept being ignored by the Academy...what a time...and what an eclectic decade for scores...will we ever see the like again?
The 2000's was pretty good for soundtracks, actually. You had Jonny Greenwood's masterpiece "There Will Be Blood", but you also had Nick Cave doing the soundtrack for "The Assassination of Jesse James", as well as Alexandre Desplat's score for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", Michael Andrews' lovely score for "Donnie Darko", and Clint Mansell's haunting theme for "Moon". I'm not sure if that entirely matches up with what you're describing, but there is a lot of variety there.
Goldsmith is an under appreciated composer. This score is simply brilliant.
