China never ceases to amaze me. They learned from the former USSR that trying to suppress religion was not a good idea. But it was also not a good idea to grant political power to religion. They took the middle road. Thus they avoid religious conflicts and respect spaces and public education, respect the space of those who do not believe and allow the space of those who do believe in their own places of worship. I like that.
BTW Evangelical Christianity is very big in China, and grow very fast, even American study said that in 2050 there would be more Evangelical Christian in China than in USA.

I noticed some people believe that Christianity is “western”. Yet Christianity in China predates back I believe nine centuries. Yeah, most young people aren’t religious in general in China. The government is not concerned about religion for the generation over 50 but are more concerned for children learning something contrary to moral law and college students from being radicalized by distorted religionists. Counterintuitively with such a stronghold of ideology this is why you don’t see churches, for example, being involved with public affairs or organizing events with local communities like you’d see in the west. They don’t have any public influence.

我去美国留学的时候有参与新教的查经和各类活动，很可惜，我并没有信教。不过教会的朋友们依然很欢迎我去学习圣经。
对我来说是挺有趣的经历。现在我依然是一个唯物主义战士哈哈哈哈。
我在日本留学的时候也经常被上门传教，虽然我父母信教而且觉得宗教信仰能给人精神力量是无法替代的。但我自己从小就受到黄金时代科幻小说的影响，认为真正的伟大之物还是人类本身，未来总有一天人类可以探索宇宙的每个角落，在星海里留下永恒的纪念碑，所以无法把神佛作为精神寄托。不过宗教里传达的一些教人处世态度确实值得学习。

Mis amigos chinos me han dicho que Buda no es un dios y el budismo lo consideran mas una filosofia porque cualquiera puede convertirse en Buda.
