Hello "Anthony Dodge The Model Train Outsider"! Thank you for showing us such a wonderful video! I feel so happy! I'm looking forward to your next work! Have a nice day!
Hello, Peter and thanks for watching! You never know if it is a design flaw, or even a problem which develops during shipping long distances, or if it is a boneheaded user (all 3 are possible). I think it came down to making sure all things clicked into place completely and properly. The plastic lubricant was the biggest difference.
Hi Anthony, the 440 is a beautiful EMU, great selection of sounds. Its typical Piko, a very smooth silent runner that handled your gradient with ease. Looking at the bogie mounting it does look complicated however you solved the assembly ok. I imagine you are very happy with this Feb Christmas Present. Cheers, Paul.
Hi, Paul. Truth is, I try to avoid PIKO as I have had lots of bad luck with them. Sometimes, they are the only company who makes what I want. I am hopeful I sorted the bogey issue out... just very fiddly and requires very perfectly aligned supports. I am more nervous than happy right now- pleased it seems to be going well now, but nervous it might not stay that way! Same with the printer!
Hello again, Dave! Thanks again! Yes, this was a 360-degree emotional ride. I was excited to get it, absolutely frustrated and angry with the bogey/truck issue and then shocked at how well it ran once I got it seemingly fixed. I have wanted this model for a couple years, so to have it working int he fleet is great!
Hi Anthony great looking EMU very smooth with regard to the bogie I believe that's a Hornby/Lima design from there ho scale TGV train that I would love to own. hopefully it's all sorted now. All the best to you and Joyce.
Hey, Deano... this seems to be a common design on these types of units. I think it came down to how the coupler was fitting inside. Once I freed it up, the main problem disappeared.
Hiya, Andrew! I have always liked the corridor connectors on these types of models, although Fleischmann did a fully bellows style one that looked very realistic. It is going to take me a few runs before I get over my nerves regarding the bogey. It ran smoothly and consistently once I added the lubricant. Thanks for stopping by! Cheers and warm regards to you and yours!
Wow that sounds like a defective cast on the bogie. At first I thought it was a long haul shipping problem with bounce in the box. Well done for investigating and coming to a temp fix. It may be worth mentioning to the supplier. 👍🏻🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
I thought it might be, but when the clips hold, it should all hold. The problem seemed to be the digital pin coupler being too stiff and not moving freely. Once I got that moving freely, the real problems seemed to stop. We will see if it holds!
Hi Tom... yes, I hope I have it sorted, but won't know until I pick it up and move it somewhere. It ran beautifully for the video after constantly having the bogey separate and derail before I worked on it.
Yes, fortunately, this one is designed for my track (unlike that CD 371). The real fun was sorting the bogey issues out, but (so far) it seems to be running smoothly and staying together.
Nice looking model - annoying with the bogey. Glad you got it sorted. I guess it will be difficult to do maintenance on it when you have to turn it around to lubricate it? Wondering if this is a typical issue - or you got a lemon. Always difficult to do returns when the train store is far away - I have the same issue. Anyhow - looks great and runs great now. Enjoy ;-)
Hello, Martin and thanks for watching! I am ever so hopeful I have fixed the issue, but the lubrication issue is definitely a concern for the future. It is a very smooth and consistent runner right now, so I am hopeful the problem was just the who pin-connecter being too stiff in movement creating all the other issues. Again, thank you for watching!
Well I’m jealous 😂 a very nice model and like the livery very nice great running as you would expect from piko really enjoyed seeing this one very impressive thanks for sharing cheers for now 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🤗🚂🚂👍
Hello, Al! Thank you very much! Truth be told, I am not a huge Piko fan. I seem to have issues of some kind or another with each Piko I buy. Anyhow, I sorted the issues with this one for now, and it ran smoothly and quietly to my heart's content! Thanks for popping by!
Hiya Anthony That issue isn't exclusive to Piko. Same thing with the br425 .. Hence my lights didn't work but once clicked in place no problems. So 440 whoaaaà that is completely stunning the details on the roof brilliant. The livery...brilliant Running ....brilliant That is one brilliant sassy EMU. Very impressed...Once its bedded in proper it will just get better ... Really considering getting one ... Thanks for your review Brilliant lol Take care fella 😀 👍
Hey, Mark. I agree. My BRAWA 642 had a similar issue... I am not a fan of the bogey being done in this fashion. I think the biggest issue was that the digital connecter pin is also the coupler, and it was very tight in its slide socket. Once I added the lubricant, the derailing and bogey collapse stopped, but the bogey still fell off when moving it. At least it did prove to be a smooth runner, so as long as I have solved the bogey issue (I am still nervous), then I can relax and enjoy the model.
Hi Anthony, A very nice train but it is so disapponting when problems take the enjoyment out of that first encounter over here it happens often but suprised that you had it with this and seeing Jims comment yes you should tell the shop that there maybe a problem in the future and see what they say. But watching it run was great and your happiness that it was working so well a result, so now will await your experience with the new 3D printer!!!. Keep well yourself and I wish Joyce well for everything to heal soon. Cheers Robert.
Hello Robert, It was disappointing to have an issue out of the box for sure. I try to keep an eye on other buyers who got it and see if they have the same problem. One never knows what happens in shipping or anywhere along the line. I am going to see how it handles my live stream today and then when I put it away in a couple days and have to pick it up off the track. I was clearly surprised at how well it ran the incline and how quietly and smoothly it did run once I apparently solved the bogey issue. I am just not confident enough to feel certain I fixed it. Thanks for watching and supporting! Cheers!
Looking at the diagram this looks like a Marklin specific issue where there is not enough room on the clips to grab on the plate holding the ski as the same part is used on the dc one that doesnt have the ski
I think an even bigger problem was that the pin-coupler was very snug in its socket, which gave no play in the coupler. Once I lubed it and let it move more freely, the disconnecting and bogey drop stopped.
Haha... visually stunning, love the color scheme but Anthony, what also caught my eye, is your area with all those buildings... very nice looking layout...wow...very impressive 👍😎 Darrell
Thanks, Darrell. The buildings are laid out in the basic block alignment of the City of Delmenhorst near the station, but I still need to pave it all and that is only after I figure out the best way to run the car system through it.
LoL Hornby secretly making HO pieces... SCARY! I am crossing my fingers that I got it sorted with the lubricant on the bizarre bogey design... but if it happens again, I am gluing it.
What I have got here ... a Pico ... hmmmm, let me give you a hint ... start to save money about € 550 for "your" this years Chrismas present ... >;) ...
@@ModelTrainOutsider Sadly only the loko, but I quit sure that Märklin will announce the rest of the train still this year ... because it is the name of the train and not the loko

Stunning looking unit Anthony, really nice paintscheme. Glad you got it all together and running smoothly.
Thank you, Ben. I am becoming more and more impressed with this unit the longer I have it. Quite a smooth runner and quiet, too.
Hi Anthony Glad you got it sorted in the end, its always frustrating when brand new items cause problems straight out of the box. Thanks

Congratulations on your new train look forward to see it in the stream to night.😊
Indeed, it shall be running a main line today, so we will see if it can handle it. Definitely a 90+ minute adventure to get it to this point.
Very, very nice Anthony. Lovely looking EMU. Nice cool livery too. Good one.
I am glad I got this class in this livery, but the bogey issue concerns me, although I seem to have it corrected for now.
