One of my favorite themes by the great Maestro Bolling! I've started listen to it as the theme for a TV ad for a new, very big and sofisticated mall here in Mexico City back in 1981, called "Perisur", when I was 16 years old and immediately went hooked with it! Little bit later I discovered that Claude Bolling was the mastermind behind it and I got the album. Hubert Laws did an amazing performance, and in this theme his solo is amazing! Later I've got almost all the records by Maestro Bolling and even the sheet music of Toot Suite album that I played some of it's themes on my trumpet. Finally back in 1995 I have had the opportunity to listen him and his band live during a concert he performed here in Mexico City, at one of our finest concert halls: El Palacio de Bellas Artes (The Palace of Beauty Arts) and there he performed various of his iconic themes from Borsalino to this one and it was an amazing concert with a full hall! Thanks for this video, brings me realy nice memories!
I remember watching this on HBO as a kid of maybe 10 or 11, I played the sax in jazz band and always found the theme so memorable. As I've made many trips to LA over the years the breezy nature really captures the mood, I can only imagine it felt even more relevant in the late 1970's when the film was released and the music was being composed. Really beautiful score, great, luscious chord progressions.
I have always enjoyed the theme song to this movie as well as the film itself. Happy 40th. Anniversary of the film's release and RIP to Neil Simon who had written such a great play!
1979 when I was 19 , listened to this . Im going to try to get it on my Tromb one , Any inter ested . SORRY No FREEMASON s on my SHOW . YOU HAVE YOUR SECRET CLUB , AND I HAVE MINE . AND Im VERY SERIOUS ABOUT IT .. I PUT SUCH GAMES BEHIND ME at the age of 10 .
Agree. The movie had some nice moments but this composition is perfect for the time and place and sophistication and humor of this film. Kudos to Claude Bolling and Hubert Laws.A sublime blend of beauty and a touch of melancholia. 72 and hazy.

I love this piece and Hannah’s theme. It makes me want to travel to a warm climate and play this music in the car.

Very strange not finding commentaries. I'd almost forgotten how jazzy this tune was. Thank you very much for postin' it !!!

Thanks so much for posting this--one of the best aspects of the movie! Anyone know if it's avail on cd?
I think you can get it through the Turner Classic Movies website. They own it.
Yes, I bought it on CD about 20 years ago.

Both Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor were good in this film 🎥, though it looked like dramatic performances.
