I personally have a gay friend who came out after seeing this show. He realized his parents loved this show, and new if they could be comfortable with these characters, they'd be willing to accept their own son. For the first time, the family actually has a loving healthy relationship. My friend has been with his boyfriend for 3 years now and it's because of the accepting message of this show that the entire family is bonded.
Love always prevails. Bigotry always dies. The writing is on the wall. Love won out here. 40 states now have gay marriage and all it means is more happy, EQUAL, loving folks in society
I'm a little ashamed to say that I used to be homophobic. I thought it was wrong and unnatural. But Modern Family, among other things, really shed light on my ignorance for me and I am now in complete support of equal rights for the LGBT community. Not seeking praise for simply discontinuing my stupidity. I just wanted to share that people with ignorant and intolerant perspectives (Myself and others) can change.
I am homophobic as well. It is okay, you can still laugh at them. This one time, I had this ladyboi in Thailand go all gay with hugging and wanting kisses. None of that gay stuff here, I just want to pound ladyboi butt.
ya ok. Interesting that when someone has a differing opinion to you’re own you just tell them to shut the fuck up !! Wow. You’re acceptance is off the charts. Idiot.
Real GAy parents have been around long before these two character's on show.... so calm the the fuck down before you start worshiping them.... jack ass
billy jack Funny thing is, I'm not even American. And FYI, they do show genuine affection between the two. Just because it isn't sexual doesn't mean it isn't affectionate. And just to introduce a gay couple as one of the main leads in a show on a big channel like ABC (which is seen by millions) does require guts coz not everyone accepts it. And people literally changing their opinions about being gay is not what common public gay parents can achieve. So ya, Modern Family did make one hell of a statement.
Before i saw the show I planned forcing myself into a marriege with a woman, and than i saw this show and Mitchell who I can identify with( hes my favourite). And found out that its not impossible to come out. And I want to have a great husband later and then a beatiful child. So this show actually changed my life. Thank you writers ,Jesse and other importent people in making this fantastic show.
The show perpetuates stereotypes in order to subvert sterotypes. If you glance at the characters majority of them seem to adhere to stereotypes but if you know the show it also subverts stereotypes and challenges how you would expect the characters to behave in many scenarios. If the characters in the show didn't adhere to stereotypes the effect would not be the same.
There’s a little bit of truth to a lot of stereotypes. Gay guys, for example, are already looked at as “weird”, they’re typically more comfortable being feminine than straight guys because of it. There’s no pressure to conform because they already don’t conform.
I'm only 8 years late, but I'm totally fine if my race being stereotyped on a TV show if they did it funny enough. I'm secure about myself enough to laugh at that and yes, it'll be less powerful if everyone was 'normal' just so to avoid offending anyone
What I love about Mitch and Cam's portrayal on the show is that it helped a lot of people overcome their homophobic thoughts and realise than gay love is no different that straight love and it's actually beautiful and nothing to be afraid of. Of course it doesn't get rid of homophobic human beings but I'm glad that it changed a lot of people's perspective.
Eric, if you're reading this, I want to say how much I love you as an actor. You played Cameron very well and he is always going to be a beloved character worldwide.
I love how this show explores family values so well. In every episode, they remind us that we're all human and that our differences aren't weaknesses in others we should target, but signs of how much we can all learn from each other.
He's just a great actor. You were convinced that he was like that in real life, which is the greatest compliment to an actor who isn't like the character he/she portrays I think.
my youngest brother is gay and at the time he came out i had alrdy watched 4 seasons of modern familty and im pretty sure it helped me to accept the situation right away, it came as a big suprise but never felt weird.
I disagree. Mitch and Cam are first time parents. That's what the show is portraying. The stumbles and hilarity of watching first time parents trying to navigate that landmine. Straight or gay, that is never easy. And they all mess up. That's the funny part. But they love their kids. And that's all that matters.
I heard about Modern Family at a time when I was punishing myself for being bisexual and trying to hide it from the people around me, because I thought I was wrong and broken and disgusting. But then the trailer had Cam playing Circle of Life holding Lily, and Mitch looking absolutely done with him, and I laughed so much. Eventually I felt better about myself. I'm still a screw-up, but it's not because of that lol
I was very surprised when I would come home and find out that my Dad DVR'd this show-- I always figured he would be a little too "old school" to enjoy the show-- but he loved it, and all the characters.. so I think this show did a lot to show how tolerant people actually are these days.. people are always so quick to judge people for not liking a show because of certain progressive elements..but this show is proof, if the writing and acting is good-- people will accept and celebrate it.
Philip Ladefoged Mogensen she’s a serious runner, so she’s got that runner’s body. but she’s still unbelievably beautiful! and her personality is so kickass it makes her even more beautiful!
Love the show, it's hilarious and true to life, although as a Latino woman sometimes I dislike the stereotypical things that Gloria represents. I too hope one day Modern Family's gay couple will stop being rare.
This is such a cute and uplifting thing to hear. On the one hand, it's sad that such a tv show is apparently "needed" to open the minds if bigoted people. But on the other hand, it shows that much (or at least some) of it isn't homophobia per se, but rather fear of the unfamiliar and strange.
because of Modern Family i'm now getting interesting to raise a family even know having and raising a family is not so easy unlike what we see on television just like this show
To Eric's point: just because someone talks with a southern accent doesn't mean they are Westboro types that oppose same sex marriage. I'm from the South and I lean to the left, but can't fully embrace the Democratic Party, because the liberals I'm surrounded by all day discriminate against me. I'm assumed to be a bigoted moron because I'm from Texas. It amazes me that my fellow UC-Berkeley students can't see the hypocrisy in that while they go on and on about gay marriage. Like dude, I agree with you, you don't need to get defensive and go on a rant just because I say I'm from Texas. And yea I know not all of you do that, but it happens and if you don't believe that you're as a big a moron as the white people that deny racism exists.
cathy smith “although they claim to be wise, they became fools.” Could also be an admonition dont you think? I hope you feel the same pain of judgement from another so that you can understand those of whom you have judged. Then I hope that you feel or find real love, the kind of which everyone is included and no one is isolated because of a few ancient notions. Good luck and may God bless and absolve you of ignorance.
Traduction for Eric at 1:31 please? i'm french and it's difficult for me to understand the full interview ( i know i'm veeeery late Haha) the others vidéos it's ok but i've to concentrate too and it give me headache Hahaha

I have a question that what did Jesse(mitchell) say at the 27th second? I find that I can only hear 'I definitely xxx the day when it is not a revolutionary couple?' clearly. But what is xxx mean?
I would've luved to see ol cam in this interview all blasted with prison ink a beard and talking like a street thug .. then id be like wow ..what an actor

Philip Ladefoged Mogensen I have a friend here in the UK who’s name is Eric Allcock, and yes he’s always bragging about it 🤣

I love Eric's high pitch voice when there is something wrong 😂
Eric is one of my fav actors of all time and his portrayal in M.F is classic oh man!!
@cathy smith when?

Cam and Mitch are my favorite characters
Same mitch is my fave
Cam 😍😍
i didn't know eric is actually straight
I know right? With the way he acts on the show you could swear that hes gay.
Just goes to show you, you can't hold up typical stereotypes! Lesson learned. (:
enjoyitbro That's why it's called acting........
He's just a great actor. You were convinced that he was like that in real life, which is the greatest compliment to an actor who isn't like the character he/she portrays I think.
he does seem to have some of that sass naturally, though :p
"Cam" is the best one on this great cast! Funny!
my youngest brother is gay and at the time he came out i had alrdy watched 4 seasons of modern familty and im pretty sure it helped me to accept the situation right away, it came as a big suprise but never felt weird.
100% legit, they opened a lot of eyes in the past few years this show was running. Good for them and the community.
i loved when Cam used to hold tiny little Lily on his lap, too adorable 😍
Eric is one of the most talented actor, so versatile!
the most heartwarming and wholesome video i’ve watched all week😢❤️
Can't stop looking at Jesse Tyler's huge eyelashes....
I love this show!! It's hilarious!! Thank you guys!!
Started to watch this a few years ago for Ed of course , but all the characters fell into place , great show
"He was more like cam, and I can tell" hahaha
so awesome how seriously they take all of this. I love this show
Wonderful message of love through laughter and stories to ease through our life’s difficult milestones

Happy to see all those positive comments , especially and my husband and I are expecting 2 baby girls . It gives me courage ..
What a fantastic actor Eric Stonestreet is!
Cam was my favourite character. He’s hilarious.
Cameron has always been my favorite character on the show
Where does he get those shirts?!? I always thought they were cool. Loved the colors and patterns in the cuff and collar.
I disagree. Mitch and Cam are first time parents. That's what the show is portraying. The stumbles and hilarity of watching first time parents trying to navigate that landmine. Straight or gay, that is never easy. And they all mess up. That's the funny part. But they love their kids. And that's all that matters.
One of the all time great sitcom comedy characters. Hilarious.
I almost cried...this is amazing
I heard about Modern Family at a time when I was punishing myself for being bisexual and trying to hide it from the people around me, because I thought I was wrong and broken and disgusting. But then the trailer had Cam playing Circle of Life holding Lily, and Mitch looking absolutely done with him, and I laughed so much. Eventually I felt better about myself. Cam and Mitch are the fucking best. Eric blew the role out of the water.
Why does that guy look like Ray Romano??????
Thankyou! I was confused like "What does Ray have to do with this show??" lol
I was very confused too!,,
Looked like John Stamos too me...
Love child of Ray Romano and Mark Ruffalo.
I KNOW RIGHT!! Lmao I literally took a double take hahah
I'm laughing and crying and laughing again. That's really touching.
Eric & Jesse are like Penn & Teller. Just my interpretation.
They're a revolutionary couple? I always just saw them as yet another couple with the same kind of problems all couples do.
Ho my god. I'm crying.
Really this is the first show that has generalised gay couples in our everyday life.I feel so happy too see that things are changing for better😇
Julie Bowen is the babe of the century. She has absolutely perfect features. Full on or profile. Perfect.
She is just too thin...
+Philip Mogensen Agree
Philip Ladefoged Mogensen she’s a serious runner, so she’s got that runner’s body. but she’s still unbelievably beautiful! and her personality is so kickass it makes her even more beautiful!
Love the show, it's hilarious and true to life, although as a Latino woman sometimes I dislike the stereotypical things that Gloria represents. I too hope one day Modern Family's gay couple will stop being rare.
Last moment made me LOL. "And I could tell." Hahahaha! Cute!

I love Eric's stories! and I love Cam!
I can watch these clips forever.
Are you Mitch or Cam??? haha this is too sweet :)
totally agree two men can bring up a child equally as good if not better than a man and woman
Geraldine Owens absolutely no point in the second part of that sentence.
That's sexist.
this is so precious :(
It's unbelievable that he's not gay for real.. Amazing actor
Beautiful. In humour and joy comes happiness. Happiness within one' self can open doors for acceptance of other people's happiness.
cathy smith Shut up Cathy.
hats off to this video. made my day
I don't live in the US, but I'm queer and love the show and hearing how big of an impact it made on people's views of LGBT people makes me so happy.
To Eric's point: just because someone talks with a southern accent doesn't mean they are Westboro types that oppose same sex marriage. Ugh, I understand how you feel. I moved out to California about 4 years ago from New Jersey...so yeah
Well, it increases the likelihood that they're Westboro types. Also, I don't think he was making stuff up. It sounded very specific.
I love how Ariel jumps in asking questions
I love them all so much😫❤❤❤❤
anyways. representation is really important and this show does more than so many other shows.
“Whered you get those shirts?” 😂
cathy smith “although they claim to be wise, they became fools.” Could also be an admonition dont you think?

Show is hilarious, show of our time...
Love This Show Forever!

How dare an actor portray someone of a different sexual orientation as his own...
That is... Uhm... Acting.
Not even homophobics can hate the couple of Mitch and Cam

I LOVE LOVE LOVE ERIC!!!!!!
You can hear Sarah Hyland laughing in the background
Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitch) is but Eric Stonestreet (Cam) isn't.
