I mean this is the most admiring way possible. They make me feel better about my body. They are doing this and they are not stick figures. They have body to them. Im probably about the same weight but when i look at myself i see "chunk"but not seeing that in them makes me feel like my body is beautiful too. I hope i am explaining this right.
Belly dancers aren't actually meant to be skinny. They are meant to be plump like these two young women so that the movements of the belly wave, hip size and hourglass figure is more pronounced. For thousands of years, their body types were the most desired because it meant you were wealthy and could eat more than peasants. You should not be ashamed to look like them. They are healthy and not overweight at all and are clearly still very active. All the most famous belly dancers have a belly. You should embrace yours too 🥰

This. Coming to terms with the fact that I’m beautiful no matter what; body fat may change the flavour, but it’s still good. Watching other people be comfortable and confident in their bodies helps others including myself be comfortable themselves.
It’s especially effective when you can see yourself in that person. Like, I love all the stick thin girlies that are learning to love themselves, but I don’t relate since I’m on the chunkier side.
I kinda leaned into the “might as well be strong” mindset for a while, but I’m learning to see the beauty in all my forms. Which is different from appreciating my body for its functionality, which can also help with self acceptance and I think made me not hate how I looked as I grew up. I was super active, how could I hate my body for keeping up with me even if it did keep a bit more fat than I liked.

I lost alot of it right away but even after being in the army i never got below 125 again. (She is 18 now) it took me a long time to love my body the way it was and to realize that the way my body was and is now is a gift because it let me be a mom. Every stretchmark, curve, and "extra chunk" i can grab is all just memories my body made from being pregnant.

I don't know why many women are feeling low in the comments, but we admire this body shape in India till now. Being Skinny is considered poorly fed or a sign of illness/deprecation in our culture. Ideal Indian beauty is always voluptuous ( not too fat and not too thin, almost like this), but that doesn't mean, all those who don't comply with it are not beautiful. It's the nature of women to get fat easily, that doesn't mean our mothers, sisters and other women folk aren't beautiful. Same goes for men.

I love how this is embraced in their culture. I feel like growing up I was shamed just for existing. I was a “tomboy” but now as a grown woman i see that I am very feminine and I love sexuality. I was not allowed to embrace that part of myself growing up.
actually bellydancing entered India only ten years back, it was considered too scandalous before that

It was also performed in temples especially in shiva temple, as snakes are associated with Shiva, mostly performed by Indian tribals. As belly dancers moves like snakes. It have it's roots in India. I think the styles were quite different.
