Mangosteen is the queen of fruits. The king can come later. I think mangosteen is banned in some locales because the outer thick skin could permanently dye any fabric it touches purple.
This why I like about your video. It does not make any sense for tourist to like every food available here. I know some vlogger just want to be nice but it feel less rewarding when they actually like the food. Even Malaysian dont like everything. That is beauty of having variety of food from different cultures. Everyone has something they like.
The lady selling mangosteen gave one hard fruit which cannot be eaten. Good n fresh mangosteen has a softer shell and easy to open. The hard skin is already a few days old(can't eat)and it's as hard as a rock!. I have a mangosteen tree in my garden. My tree fruited in August till Sept.
mangosteen, manggis in Malay. Botanical name Garcinia mangostana. Garcinia fruits includes the asam gelugor, asam kandis, achacha, button mangosteen, yellow mangosteen, lemondrop mangosteen and many many more.
Yeah, you are right, Mdm Diane. Spending quality time with Steve, lvana and Mr Ted in a foreign country is so much fun and it's the best of the best. Wonderful bonding time !
It's ok if u dont like any thing and say it out mom. We already healed from when Steve "rejected" the anchovies 😆 We even accept him as one of us now 😚
Hi, Since your mum just is here, may I recommend for her to take a medical check up/health screening at one of the private hospital here in KL. I just watched Nomad Capitalist channel. Andrew sent all his staffs for a medical check up at Prince Court Hospital. it cost him about RM 1200/staff. He mentioned that similar health screening will cost thousands $ and may take days to complete whilst at Prince Court Hospital it took 2-3 hrs to complete the whole test procedures. After watching Andrew's video, I immediately remember that your mum/dad are here. They may take this opportunity to do a quick health screening if they wish.
Plenty of tropical fruits your parents can try in KL. Most of them are available in the wet market like Chow Kit or the big supermarket, well, you guys know better. Have they tried dragon fruit, carambola, rose apples, jackfruit, soursop etc
8:41 - There are two versions. Thin and thick. Apam Balik is one of the popular snacks during the month of Ramadan. There may be a slight difference in the Apam Balik recipe made by Malays and other people.
For Malays, we considered Durian as the king of fruits while mangosteen as the queen of fruits. Durian is considered hot fruit while mangosteen is considered cold fruit. So, when you eating both fruits, your body temperature will be balanced. During my grand's time, durian & mangosteen trees will produce fruits in the same season to counter balance each other hot-cold nature attributes. But today, people only focus on durian research & no more season for durian because we can get it almost a whole year.
Oh, had you tried Malaysian doughnuts - kuih keria. Heavier than usual donuts in texture and smaller in size, with the best having a high sweet potato to wheat flour ratio. Fried and doused in sugar water to create a sugary crust. I would heartily recommend it. 😋 They may give Timmies a run for its money, perhaps.

An interesting trivia and fact about mangosteens.... check the star-shaped stub at the bottom of the fruit (the opposite side from the stem). Count the number of petals there. That coincides with the number of slices within the fruit.
Hai Steve...!!! Visit to Malaysia will not be complete without getting your parents to eat fresh durian... because if you taste the frozen one or not so fresh one elsewhere the taste will not be the same.... and don't forget Roti Canai and nasi lemak, nasi kerabu, nasi dagang, laksa, nasi kandar and many2 more that you have tried before.... make them have good memories here in Malaysia....
Mangosteen is known as the Queen of fruits. It was the HRH QE's favourite fruit that was despatched from Msia yearly to England. The British were in love with mongosteens when they arrived here 8n thec1700s and they wrote quite abit about it and wrote poems in honour of it. Glad your mum can see thru fruits..whoa LOL !!!!!
It is hard to impress anybody on such a short visit. It took me a year, before I really liked staying in America as a student. Like you, the only thing I don't like about Malaysia is the hot weather and the only thing I hate about living in America is the cold weather. Let's wait for the good guys to have control over the weather manipulation technology!
For her first time trying mochi, maybe you should have given Diane some mochi ice-cream. But maybe you have time to redeem the star rating with that. 😉
Hi Steve & Ivana. I guess mum finds it hard to adapt to Malaysian flavour. But you two can be honorary Malaysians. You two have made Malaysian food as part of your lives 😊
8:21 Mangosteen is queen of fruit after durian king of fruit.... after eat durian is very hot than must eat Mangosteen to cood down back the body temperature... durian and Mangosteen is the pair fruit you must eat😅
I was studied in Waterloo & attached to Canadian Innovation Centre... I did my intership in Toronto with Lavarnthol & Horwarth (A Management Consultant)
Bad advice, Rosmah😅, if she choked on a bigger seed, you'll get sued.. why some of these mat salleh are educated fools? All they ever had is apples, strawberry, oranges, grapes and pears!! How boring 😅😢
I will tell u a secret about mangosteen...if u see at the bottom of the fruit there are some petals like ..if the petals are five then the inside fruit has five seeds...if its seven then the seeds also has seven...
You already know that Durian is the King of Fruits. Now you just introduced your mom to the...yes....QUEEN of Fruits- Mangosteen is known as the queen of fruits.
I think we all here are looking forward to see your mom trying durian 😄
So true... see.... Ken already get the idea like a Malaysian... 😂😂😂 you have become part of our family now Ken...!!! Congratulations...!!!

Really like your mom's reaction, because she make me believe that she's honest about the taste.

An interesting trivia and fact about mangosteens.... check the star-shaped stub at the bottom of the fruit (the opposite side from the stem). Count the number of petals there. That coincides with the number of slices within the fruit.
We need more of your mom in your videos!

For her first time trying mochi, maybe you should have given Diane some mochi ice-cream. But maybe you have time to redeem the star rating with that. 😉
🎉🎉try teh Dangdut?
FYI,mangosteen is the queen of fruit..its bcos it looks like wearing a crown.
I also give 5 stars to the taste of mangosteens!
Hi Steve & Ivana. I guess mum finds it hard to adapt to Malaysian flavour. But you two can be honorary Malaysians. You two have made Malaysian food as part of your lives 😊
Should've find some thin crispy apam balik too.. some prefer those instead of the big fluffy ones..
8:21 Mangosteen is queen of fruit after durian king of fruit....
after eat durian is very hot than must eat Mangosteen to cood down back the body temperature... durian and Mangosteen is the pair fruit you must eat😅
To us Malaysians, durian is thr King of fruits and mangosteen is the Queen of fruits! 😊
Hugs from Romania
Take mum and dad to Taman Connaught Pasar Malam. Its on every Wednesday night.
Dukong is in season now. Do try it. Its good
It's impossible to dislike Mangosteen unless they're unripe and sour.
I was studied in Waterloo & attached to Canadian Innovation Centre... I did my intership in Toronto with Lavarnthol & Horwarth (A Management Consultant)
Why are you promoting yourself here?😮😅 Rather strange! Have your own RUclips channel then..😅😊
4:12 what is assammoi? What taste?
It's asamboi. It's a preserved plum n it's sweetish sourish in taste
Hey unicorn!! Assamboi is guess translated to sour plum. Its a common drink, especially with green apple. Very refreshing
It’s salted dried plum. Have a salty sweet and sour taste
@@JetLagWarriors tnx 😘
@@mayfoo02 tnx
I just love your mom honest comment and sensory evaluation 😂
Keep the vlogs coming dude.. . Also please take your mom to some kueh stall Steve... And I see where you get your aversion to fish from lol
The mangosteen, the biggest "slice" got the seed. The seed is bitter if you happen to accidentally chew it...good anti oxidant though
Chinatown always the first choice to visit anywhere in the world.
Buah Manggis. Delicious
Seem like it is hard to please your mom. She has a high standard taste palate and I like her honesty though. ☺
It's not about high standards.. it's abt acquired and local taste.. and some Canadian or western food are rather bland, tasteless and cold..
Wah.. its good that your parents enjoy the local stuff especially the manggis (mangosteen), but you can actually swallow the seeds no problem.. 😅
Bad advice, Rosmah😅, if she choked on a bigger seed, you'll get sued.. why some of these mat salleh are educated fools? All they ever had is apples, strawberry, oranges, grapes and pears!! How boring 😅😢
So true ken. Durian 2
dig your thumb into the fruit shell to abstract the fruit
She likes manggis...❤❤❤
I will tell u a secret about mangosteen...if u see at the bottom of the fruit there are some petals like ..if the petals are five then the inside fruit has five seeds...if its seven then the seeds also has seven...
For Malaysians, durian is the king of fruit and mangosteen is the queen

#JetFam simply tell us what mom and pop thinks about the weather
Mangosteen might be the tastiest fruit!
The queen of fruits!
Steve mission for his parents visiting Malaysia:
Trying the queen of fruits: ✅
Trying the king of fruits: to be continue
Fresh durian must taste but not in season now because raining
That mangosteen can be eaten with the seeds n it taste like peanut seriously😊
Don’t get the mangosteen stain on the white shirt 😅
For your info mangosteen have nickname Queen of friut
The key to enjoying mochi is to keep chewing on it till it disappears in the mouth, not bite and swallow
If mangosteen is to hard for you dad, try manggis (malay) 😁
Hai Mom ... 👋🏻. Welcome to Malaysia ❤
Hi. Thank you
Mangosteen, the queen of fruit is wonderful. Just be careful, coz the juice and the red part can stain ur clothes pretty permanently
You already know that Durian is the King of Fruits. Now you just introduced your mom to the...yes....QUEEN of Fruits- Mangosteen is known as the queen of fruits.

Malaysia chempedak is suitable for your mom.
you have to remove the stem from the mangosteen before you break it open.
#jetfam what's the difference between a forest and a jungle? 10 minute discussion, not like spice discussion. 😅
I appreciate true and raw opinion. So please don't fake it. LOL
Apek wearing shorts and slipers 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 apam balik

That's it? Mochi, mangosteen and apam balik only?
