This game makes for an interesting speedrun. Since the luck can;t be manipulated and there's no level skipping (intended or glitched), there's no "speed tech". A speedrun of this game is just well-executed casual strats. That's not a criticism, it's just refreshing now and then to see a game that's speedrun through pure dev-intended skills.
20:36 "It's actually the first time the arcade version has been on a console as far as I'm aware. Before, you either had to play it on an emulator, or a very expensive console." Whaaaa?
I used to play Puzzle Bobble at my local arcade in Japan bc it's the only game I was able to play longer than 10 min. Anyway thanks AGDQ2019 for bringing back memories.
He was most likely using an AES home console version of the Neo Geo modded with Razoola bios because he never had to add a quarter, which meant that he was playing the MVS arcade version, and the game never showed 5 credits like the AES console version would have, so the bios was set to free play.
Since they typically charge 100 yen (or increments of 100 yen) per play in Japan, your run in Japan would have cost 600 yen, 6 dollars. TAITO THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN.
Doesn't look too bad of a game to speedrun... He missed a hell of a lot of shots there! No disrespect, but look at the Crash Bandicoot run from this year, or the Sonic 1 run. Those guys were absolute top at their games! I think there are people out there that could play this game to as high a standard as this without months of practice. Not myself. That's just my two cents.
No kidding. Almost every close call or death was caused by his own shot placement, either missing, blocking off his own options, or sticking an orb somewhere that hurt him later. The game didn't do him dirty, he's just not that great at it.
It was renamed Bust-a-Move only in the US, due to marketers thinking it sounded cooler. Not to mention all those weird box arts we got. As of now, Taito released the Switch port bearing its original name.
Yes, but we still call it Puzzle Bobble in the US. Two reasons: 1. It's catchier 2. That's pretty much what we saw at every business with an arcade machine in the States
doublejay For a speedrunner, yeah. Never thought I could do better than a speed run before but reckon I might have a chance here, having played this game for years.
Runner introduction starts at 0:51.
Run starts at 1:26.

I remember playing this exact game at home when I was a little kid. What a wave of nostalgia.
This game is on Sky TV in the UK (UK cable comes with games built in). My grandad would play all day lol
I hope to see Bust A Move 2 at a future event!
Readdddddddyyyyyyy?
I played this all the time at the pizza place next to my childhood home. Fond memories :)

He's talking about the Neo Geo MVS, which is what he's playing it on. It's the first time the arcade version has been on a console besides that.
If you're thinking about the SNES version, it wasn't quite the same as the arcade version as it had 100 levels and the 100th level was a boss.
Be cool to see someone good at the game play it
I enjoyed this run, but the guy did an average playthrough at best.

Yeah. it didn't feel like it was trying to steal money from me like every arcade game. Puzzle Bobble just gets you hooked for life.
Taito knew the perfect difficulty curve.
Tiato ... The only game in town.
Where's my T-Shirt?
In 1995
You missed one letter
Still in storage considering you misspelled Taito. ;p
We're certain they're not the only *mage* in town?

Ok
I used to play this game religiously as a kid. I feel this could be a game I could speedrun. :D
This guy was done real dirty by the game, crazy.
@@PFBM86 Dude got greedy too
@@PFBM86 Remember that theres a level of randomness to the bubbles he's given to shoot with
my mom plays better than he
@@PFBM86 exactly what I thought when watching it.
@@PFBM86 Don't forget the absolutely terrible decision making, and i'm only 4 minutes in
so many memories playing this on my dads computer with an arcade emulator inside of it and I would play these games...theres even a story mode version
I really want to know what the t-shirt looks like. I can't find any info on it....
I swear to god there's pepe the frog face in those green pebbles
I had this game on Game Gear. It wasn't a complete bust on Taito's part to release the game

Dirty deeds donated dirt cheap.
He was pretty bad.
I 1CCed this game multiple times in the arcade at the bowling alley growing up.
Hello
27:53 heh heh, a family-unfriendly word almost came out of the mouth of the couch commentator.
Isnt this also called Bust a Move?
