  • The Night the Carousel Burned Down from Something/Anything?
    LYRICS:
Weren't you there when the carousel burnt down?
The fire and confusion, the smoke and the sound
I swear you there when the carousel burnt down
    We were all around
The rings charred and tarnished all over the ground
    And our heads hung down
    And we all left town
    The next day
The children all cried when the carousel burnt down
The old ladies sighed as the carousel burnt down
The rest of us lied as the carousel burnt down
    And the flames did fly
The pipes steamed and shrieked out a blazing goodbye
    As the boiler died
    And they melted down
    The midway
And we all left town the next day
And we all left town the next day
And we all left town the next day
And we all left town the next day
And we all left town the next day

The nuances of this song are amazing. A tragedy with no accountability.

So sad that this man has never gotten the recognition he deserves, except that is, by true
    musical enthusiasts! Todd, you rock!

lol, You nailed it. I pretty much expressed the same sentiment on another of Todd's works. As I said of several other great musician's, "A musicians musician. Above the minds of the average listener. And never hungry enough to chum up with commercialism". (Harry Nilsson, Neil Merryweather, Jeff Beck & Leon Russell).

He has plenty of recognition from fans who appreciate all his work.Todd does not need to be the biggest star in the world. His fans like and appreciate all the great music he has written and performed over the years.Being a Todd fan has exposed me to so much music and brilliance.

if that freakshow who gunned down john lennon did anything good at all, it was introducing me to rundgren by proxy

Well said. Todd has pretty well explained that he never chased stardom for the sake of celebrity. He had his production income, which was steady (how he got a percentage on Bat out of hell), so he was free to make ear candy like this for us Toddites.

I always loved how he made the music cycle around from the right side to the left side as if you were hearing the carousel spinning around while it was on fire . Made the song that much more intense

Probably true, although the band The Gordian Knot (whose members included "Midnight Train to Georgia" writer Jim Weatherly, who passed recently) did a rather lovely and wistful song called "Broken Down Ole Merry-Go-Round" on their sole 1968 album, written by band members Leland Russell and J. D. Lobue. ruclips.net/video/hFdZvMq5M4U/видео.html
