    I hadn't raced or ridden in 35 years. These bikes were perfect for getting back in the dirt. The adjustable power was also perfect. They don't stall in turns which was helpful. One thing I really liked about the KTM was the size, I think it is about 7/8 of a regular bike.
    The odd things for me: It's not a 500 2t; the first 5 minutes you keep checking which tire is flat as you can hear the tire noise; there isn't a clutch; the rear brake where the clutch would be is startling at first; it's not a 500 2t, doesn't have that premix smell, and doesn't go broaaap.
    Electric is definitely the way to go for the 50 and 60 classes. With a big enough back yard you will be good to go without pissing off the neighbours. ICE dirt bikes will be around for a long time, but electrics will eventually be the future. People who are hostile to them before even trying one are just clueless.

  • @daneg

    The braking situation (no foot brake) is actually the same thing as always for anyone who has ever ridden BMX or any pedal bike. It also encourages you to keep your feet on the pegs and stand up. I think it's a plus. I'm excited about the electric bike future...even though it does simplify things (for the high end racing perspective - no clutch, no gear shifts, no engine inertia). I'm a 2-stroke guy, but man! I really want a full on racer (e.g., Stark Varg). Looking forward to seeing what KTM can do for MXers.

    As long as you don't need more than 45mph, these things are pretty capable. I have about 100 videos abusing one.
    They're crazy fun if you can fight off the "No Braap, No fun!" crowd.
    It's like the worlds best pitbike. You'll get 25-40min riding it hard. Avg trail ride more like 2 hours.
    Just charge the battery off the clothes dryer. It's not rocket surgery 😉

    I have two Freeride e’s and they’re a blast. 25 ish hp but the torque of a 450sx from zero rpm. Easy to hot swap batteries for a full day of riding. I also have an Alta MXR which has 50 hp but 147 ft lbs of torque. Definitely faster than 450s out there. The Stark Varg is the best selling e MX bike with 15K ordered so far and climbing every day. No current ice MX bike can even approach that sales volume. Spend some time on RUclips and watch the reviews. From magazine test riders, to pros to amateurs, they all love the bike and e bikes in general.

    This summer these were $7999 at many shops across the USA. I've seen some on sale today at $5999! Yes, 6k. KTM must certainly be getting ready to release a whole new model in this category.

    40 minute range…So KTM is trying to sell an electric woods bike that you might be able to get a 20 mile ride out of for 11k SMH. I’m not a KTM hater, I ride a 300 xcw, but this has way too many cons. I get why they’re not trying to move a bunch of units.

      I wonder if it would still get 20 miles in slower, more technical terrain where that would be a good couple hours of riding or more.
      For example, if it could complete a loop around the 5 Miles of Hell, starting and ending at the parking area (a 19.5 mile loop). That would be a great youtube vid.

    Great video. I was hoping you did an MX test with the Freeride (and other bikes not ideal for MX). Is it possible to ride MX, the bike will break in 2, or just a less-than-ideal ride in a competitive race? For example, a Goldwing CAN ride an MX track, but is a Freeride at least fast enough to keep up with the crowd and not be a safety hazard? A range test would also be nice, comparing the range with a dirt-road, trail, and track time. I get this point this is just a fun bike.

I had some leaves get caught on the header pipe of my KLX 230R and I was doing some first gear slow type trails riding and those leaves caught fire. I demonstrate this on my RUclips channel where I reviewed the bike. Any review of an electric motorcycle should tell us the range in the first minute.
    Range is the reason why no one will buy these. Too bad it is so heavy, too.

    • @jmos96
      @jmos96 2 года назад

      The Freeride actually feels like a 125 when you’re riding. The weight is very deceptive and you really only feel it when you put it on a center stand. Swappable batteries makes riding all day possible with a given area/range. It’s not for everyone but it works for a lot of folks.
