Was gonna comment this, like I'm finding it weird that people are so chill with filming their partners, notably when they're not looking?? As if for the specific purpose of judging too? gives creep vibes. There was this girl in class, came up to me and said with a straight face: "you're giving me the ick by the way" I asked "why" I kid you not she said"you've been drinking a lot of water since you entered the classroom"...I don't even know this girl this was our first interaction and what I am supposed to do ,be dehydrated and pass out on the floor🤡. and quite frankly I only took two sips of my water and then I started to drink more water after she talked to me just to piss her off👁️👄👁️

I eat slow and in small bites when I go eat with friends outside because I become SO SO SOOO aware of how I look to others that honestly it sometimes ruins the food experience :(
Some time ago I noticed that I eat while covering my mouth, but that's mostly because I didn't want to spit on people while talking... And now I do it all the time 😭.

I have a major anxiety disorder and in middle school my brain fully created an ongoing scenario in which my crushes were watching me go about my day giving commentary, in little directors chairs, hosted by Ryan Seacrest like a reality show. And it seems like Tik Tok has proliferated this mental illness to as many people as possible.
oh boy this gave me flashbacks...thank GOD therapy helped me enough to decenter myself and realize that not everything I do in certain ways matters so long I don't hurt anyone :)

i stopped using tiktok and snapchat in 2020 and never looked back. but when instagram reels came out, a whole bunch of tiktok’s started flooding insta so i quit that too this past january. now im social media free except for long form content on youtube and it’s such a freeing feeling not being stuck in a loop of short form, toxic, brain rot content

"Performing for an imaginary camera" is the best way to describe social anxiety and what it feels like. Sure its not actually there but you feel like it is, you feel like every look is your way and ever glance is a judgement. It feels like being in the Truman show but with a lot more paranoia. Anyway I'm going to steal your words and explanation because its such a great way of how to explain what it feels like.
I worry though that some people might think "oh yay all eyes on me" but its the exact opposite. I remember being in elementary school and being afraid to go up to the front to sharpen my pencil or throw something in the trash. It took me years to realize that feeling embarrassed about those things is not normal.
That's _exactly_ how its always been for me. But the most frustrating part is _knowing_ its not true. I dont have to do over exaggerated movements like a mime if I have to say, stop and tie my shoe. I _know_ there aren't people spending their day staring out the windows and watching me like "why did she just stop? What is she doing, she's so weird".
But while I'm thinking "this is so stupid why am I doing this" my anxiety is going "cause I'll make you stop breathing if you don't! ^^"
there’s a quote from margaret atwood that ends with “you are your own voyeur.” she was saying this in regard to “the male gaze” and how the patriarchy seeps into everything women (and other ppl affected by misogyny) do, but i think just that line alone is SO fitting when it comes to being socially anxious and self-conscious.
personally, i’ve come to the conclusion that i actually have OCD and not (just) social anxiety (calling my doctor soon!). however, i am also AuDHD and experience something known as “rejection sensitive dysphoria” (RSD) which has made me hypervigilant to things i do that could POTENTIALLY be seen as embarrassing or “cringe” as the people in these tiktoks are like. and since i am autistic and have low social impulse control, i always inevitably end up “embarrassing myself” and those memories turn into intrusive thoughts.
like for me the fear of embarrassment has reached beyond social anxiety and into OCD territory and being perceived as embarrassing in ANY way is a massive trigger for me. seeing these “ick” tiktoks and tweets is lowkey so upsetting and disheartening to me because it just confirms that people ARE seeing the weird little things i do in public as an “ick” and fuels my anxiety which causes me to pick at my skin and do other compulsions and it all becomes a vicious anxiety cycle 😓

I want to get tested to see if I have OCD honestly but those things can be so hard to separate (gl with your doc and such as well!
As an adult, when your adult partner does something (that YOU THINK is) cringe but not malicious you can either make a safe space for them, or acknowledge that they aren’t embarrassed. You can even go the extra mile and help heal their rejection wound by finding that shit ADORABLE.

The thing about Axe body spray is completely valid. The guys in my country will empty the entire bottle on themselves while they smell like a bag of onions. It makes it this unholy fusion of scents that literally chokes me out. It removes my ability to breathe. I've had to stop shopping and leave the immediate area because the smell was that aggressive. And for some reason it's only with Axe! I've never met a single guy who used Old Spice and smelled any other way than divine. Axe is cursed in the USA
Oh, and then that smell has the AUDACITY to linger in the area!

When I was 16 I broke up with my then 17 year old boyfriend at the time because I got the ick.

At 5:21, in Italy, (the part that I lived at) we would eat pizza with a fork and a knife. It’s normal there, and I think its odd to say it’s an “ick” when in reality, he might just have lived somewhere else where they did different things. I’m not saying all of Italy does this, but where I was pizza was often served with a fork and a knife and the locals would eat it with a fork and a knife. It isn’t weird, it’s just something normalized in a different culture. (I lived in Italy for 6 years by the way.)

I live in Austria and that's the normal way of eating pizza here at a restaurant. Generally, the only people I see eating it with their hands are kids and tourists. 😂💀

People who drink alcoholic beverages excessively (outside of social scenarios, multiple a day without breaks etc) people who smoke excessively, (multiple a day, interrupting stuff and/or inside buildings, not cleaning off the smoke smell before intimacy) people who do recreative drugs regularly, (outside of specific rare social situations) people who are mean to/about anyone/anything they see as beneath them, (animals/kids/homeless people/serving staff etc) people who cling tightly to people outside the relationship to the point of deferring to them for issues they should not be involved in, (mommy's/daddy's golden child, people obsessed with an ex/'best friend' etc) people who act superior/inferior to others to extreme degrees, (deliberately, not because of mental issues that they are working on controlling) people who fail to take accountability for their physical/mental health (no diagnosis/treatment) and stubborn people who make poor decisions in life and refuse to see reason when presented to them, with proof. (poor financial choices, poor health choices etc)
You know, BAD people to be around for a stable living situation.
Edit: I also go to the toilet with the door open, while at home. My cat gets upset if she cannot check in on me. I don't do it when guests are over though, out of politeness.
Also, getting over someone is easiest done by knowing you mourn for the fantasy of what could have been, not reality. And it's better to celebrate what you can have than to mourn for what never will be. You deserve to have happiness, not to beat yourself up by letting this person life rent-free in your mind. Make them pay rent (AKA, be involved in your life in positive ways) to live in your mind because that space is limited and expensive.

Actual normal best friends respect each-other's private life and don't demand attention 24/7. I wanted to make a distinction between normal best friends and 'best friends' who aren't but are called that to hide what they truly are to the person.

my "icks" are things that give me sensory issues. nothing else. just things like my skin being too dry, something not feeling right on my skin, or a bracelet moving around too much on my wrist. all these icks are not caused by anyone else. just me. i rarely get an ick from other people. and, if i do, its always related to my sensory issues.
I used to have terrible social anxiety until it dawned on me that nobody cares what others are doing around them. They're probably more worried about whatever is going on in their lives to laugh at random people on the street.
i got broken up with last night by my partner of almost 2 years and seeing people throwing away relationships because of stuff like this is infuriating.
I've been told that I give an "ick" because of how much I apologize for no reason. Like, sorry man but that's due to trauma so uh, maybe don't berate me and make me feel toxic for it😭
My biggest ick is people acting like normal everyday things IS AN ICK…like bestie can we NOT BE NORMAL ANYMORE? Seriously, these ick’s are just simply getting to the point where it’s like. “Oh are you bending down to pick up something? Having “icks” really just brings you closer. You may not like a thing about someone but that’s everyone. Relationships last way longer when you accept the “icks”
Biggest Ick; Recording tiktok’s of your children or allowing kids on tiktok knowing the kind of stuff that’s made/targeted at them 😭

Your right about the hyper aware thing i remember like 3 years ago the simplist things gave me the ick weither i did it or someone else. It was basic human things and at that time i hated the cycle of my life and never going out and did anything so i got tired of even the small, normal things in life horribly.
