Hello Marshall, thank you for the video on the USA Peavey Predator guitar. I was thinking about getting one that's a little bit beat up but still in good condition and was basically wondering do you think about $210 for one is a good deal?
This was my first guitar and fortunately for me my music store set up their guitars before selling them but back then they cost about $200 so they were cheap starter guitars so most music stores didn’t care about setting up starter guitars and these guitars were made for beginning musicians so the action was set low and the nut slotted for smaller strings for smaller hands. These are not the kind of guitars you tour the country with as they just can’t stand up to that kind of use but for a home guitar for just fooling around next to your bed with a small amp then they’re perfect. I still have mine after all these years and it’s just a fun little guitar to play
Thank you for watching Bruceolee. The shop I work at prides itself on selling "beginner" instruments that are set up as perfect as humanly possible. There are certainly limits that this variety of instruments unfortunately carry. The materials, and construction are the primary causes. I just received a letter from the grandfather of the kid who received this guitar as a gift. I can proudly say that he continues to play this exact guitar. I'm pretty sure he has watched this video, and understands the difference between this, and a much more expensive, high quality instrument. The beauty of it is that he doesn't know the difference between a crappy set up, and a pro set up. I'm pretty sure he'll be getting a much better guitar in short time. Thanks for your comment. Peace Brother
@@MarshallSetUps really cool of you and the shop to do the extra work to set up a guitar for a beginner. if it sounds like crap plays like crap they won't be inspired to keep learning. Glad you guys recognize that. With that said .I have a predator ,USA..,A Falcon USA.. both nice players ..and a Predator plus .man the Peavey's are a hidden gem ..the first guitar I had was a Peavey t30 with electric case .I wish I still had that one ..but as a 16 year old I traded it for a set of bowtie cylinder heads for my 327 Chevy motor I was building in my 1968 C10 truck ..I've looked around and maybe I'll get lucky and find another t30 for nostalgia..anyway glad to hear someone praise the Peavey stuff .
I have one of these and bought it new back when they came out. It is basically all stock, and it has been a great guitar. I often reach for it over my Fender Squier. It did have some of the problems you mentioned, for sure, but after sorting its sounds absolutely great and even with the standard tuners, it stays in tune. If you bend heavy or use the trem bar excessively, it will slip out of tune after a while, but for the money it is a great guitar. I would agree with some other folks and say that it can be a little trebly (I've heard its because it has 500k pots). Also, same volume settings on everything, its louder than my Fender.
Hello Marshall just got your video today funny how things work I just picked up the telecaster reactor black and white and the predator Strat black and white 93 era I believe pretty sweet little guitars but I sure wish I had you as a neighbor at work on it for me thanks for the info my friend👊🖐
I bought my '94 (looks exactly like the one shown here, except it's off-white) from a second-hand store for like 50 bucks back in 2007. I would never part with it! It's been my woodshedding guitar and main axe ever since. I think now I'm going to float the bridge as I had it before. I also had a red one that got away from me, and I wish I would have kept the Telecaster version I also had. Great video, thanks!
I have had dozens of those. Great necks. You have to toss the tuners, and usually rewire them. They come stock with 500k pots, so they can be real trebly. The 3 screws holding the trem plate on to the block usually are loose, so a drop of super glue on each one solves that. Best strat copy you can get for the $$$ IMO. Helps to upgrade the 4 trem mounting screws too. If you like those, try a Falcon. Every bit as great a guitar as many usa strats.
Loved your impromptu demo and jam! In the middle of trying to grab an modded Predator blackout series.
Looks exactly like my first guitar. Try and find a decent example now though... Glad this got the attention it did.

Thanks for watching Jeff's Big Guitars, and thanks for the info on the other issues with these.
Nit exactly fender specs. Fender is 9.5 radius
Predator is 12 radius
