I have never worked in the field I studied at university, and this is my sixth year post-graduation. Over the course of my career, I have held three positions at different organizations. Each of these opportunities came about when someone approached me, saying, "Hey, there's an opening at this company, and I think you'd be a perfect fit."
Networking is such a great initiative but the sad part is how most of our black people are such gatekeepers😔and also we don't speak much about how difficult it is to network as a woman because of how most men will ask for sexual favours before giving you any opportunity. But overall this was such a great and eye open conversation
Dope episode! Gem for the day, “study the person”. I have personally learnt that networking is meeting people where they are, literally & proverbially i.e. golf club, running/cycling club, creating conversations & finding out about them/where they are. I also like the reality about not being able to network with everyone, but maximise on those you can network with.
Couldn't be more greatful in my life getting the experience go to these events with our CEO..gave me sense of comfort that I belong to certain spaces irrespective of coming from an ordinary background...My utmost testimony that God will make one sit with Princes Psalms 113: vs 7-9..thank you for lovely conversation ❤
28:00 I disagree. I've gotten all my jobs by applying. People overstate the importance of "connection" & understate of just applying. People are lazy to apply, some send lame CVs, apply late & are bad at interviews; and end up not getting the job. THEN, they need connections.
Same here I have always gotten jobs through applying 😢 but then again I guess it comes with the joys of knowing that no one owes me anything....now that I am experiencing networking it's really great shame...comes with great responsibility of how to carry yourself in certain spaces because of who you are associated with within the networking
@@tinytomas3773 The idea that you don't owe anyone, anything is fantastic. My friend worked for this company, when I wanted to work there, I just applied & went through the whole process without telling her. She saw me at work the first day. She did the same thing to me years later. I looove our friendship.
47:00 Vusi is wrong, you don't have to Finesse anyone meaningful. I have noticed that extremely wealthy people are very abrasive & appreciate people who are direct too
Anyway being oblivious to the fact that race age and gender still play a role on alot of things in our society and influences the psyche, then wi keletsa fela cringe material. And hey, white privilege w teng eya
Le being a graduate from a certain demographic still is.. being a black woman, look the list is endless.. it's more about which side of the table are you sitting at.. So crying foul about alot these other issues is just beginning to now atla re naganisa all the time
As a fresh finance grad, this was so invaluable. More of such please
