Such a beautiful man. There's so much wisdom he calmly passes off as common sense.. haha. I thought I would break down watching this again now that hes gone, but I cant get past his humanity. And he helps me realize that humanity far supersedes mortality. Legend We love you Sleazy Enjoy the cosmos
It could be the round head, but Peter looks like the kind of gentleman you wouldn't mind having a beer with. The perfect anti-rockstar. The world lost an artistic genius the day he passed.
R.I.P Peter you are so missed i have been a fan since i was a scrappy 15 yo gay kid who had no rolemodles then came sleazy and TG and i have been a follower fan lover of his sounds since; iam now 43 and still love his work and at times great lengths to get his and coils work since itunes dosnt carry them and record stores are dead.
Since way back when (sometime in the 80s) when I first heard it, I've followed Sleazy's thought that primarily you should make music for yourself... to make the records you would like to hear. I think that's the most "correct" advice that anyone has ever given other artists.
love coil have for just over 10 years now not many bands/groups have great sound great meaning to there songs and art miss them both a lot peace&respect
a decade and a half ago recorded; just found it 2/2016... and as appropriate for me then as it is now. I'm often pleasantly surprised by YT's offerings of late, and although I'm not sure if I can appreciate all of Coil's works, I definitely appreciate them and their scores much more than I would have if not for this interview. He'd probably hate me tho, Rämmstein and Marylin Manson are right up there for me with Exodus, Ministry, Anthrax, Slayer, and just about every frikin artist with a track(s) on the soundtrack to the Emelio Estevez/Dennis Leary "Judgement Night". If one isn't discerning, one might mistakenly lead oneself to believe that Hindus were the original neos... or some such ridiculous notion based on misobservation. Oh, and came cos of the link with Mr. Barker's "Hellraiser". Wonder why the decision to orchestral. This is better ambience for really getting the gist of The Hellbound Heart.
NarwhalsArePimps the assignment of the label “crypto fascist” isn’t that more appropriate to the situation there?? Because narrative is exclusive to perception no???
the three he mentioned are all connected. the other two are artist and author Brion Gysin and poet John Giorno. Check them out they're really interesting.
@dynamis23 World Serpent was started by David Gibson, Alan Trench and Alison Webster with assistance from Douglas P. David Tibet only ran Dutro (which WSD distributed along with Threshold House until its demise). While I know he was involved in the legal case to the detriment of Douglas, no one sued David Tibet as far as I know and people were distancing themselves from Douglas prior to his legal issues with WSD. After Jhonn died, Douglas posted a really nasty screed about him to the DIJ list.
I love Sleazy but he makes no sense here. First he says that people confuse symbols with their meaning and that artist should be able to comment on controversial topics like a newspaper would, but then he criticizes Death in June for their social commentary. If there's a harm in an artist's use of symbolism it's not a fault of the artist it's people's interpretation of it. It's not like Douglas Pearce sings about genociding people. His music is subtle enough for people to come to different understanding of it, and if it just happens to make someone do harm to anybody it's only their interpretation of the artist's work
I like DIJ but when you dress up exclusively in SS uniforms/ camo, use a number of SS/ Nazi symbols, runes, etc, and then endlessly whine about getting labeled a "nazi", then I'm sorry but it is your fault that people interpreted you as one. I went to one of their shows in Quebec and was one of only a handful of audience members who wasn't seig heiling the stage and covered in swaztikas. DIJ was perfectly comfortable playing for/ associating with that audience, because it is a HUGE part of their audience, because they cosplay as a neo nazi folk band!
So is that it for TG? No more tours, no Velvet Underground cover album, no songs that completely abandon music theory, but still don't suck like most songs that completely abandon music theory.
The thing about DIJ is that Douglas has been whining for like 15+ years about being called a nazi. I wrote this in response to someone else here but I will copy and paste it again here: "I like DIJ but when you dress up exclusively in SS uniforms/ camo, use a number of SS/ Nazi symbols, runes, etc, and then endlessly whine about getting labeled a "nazi", then I'm sorry but it is your fault that people interpreted you as one. DIJ was perfectly comfortable playing for/ associating with that audience, because it is a HUGE part of their audience, because they cosplay as a neo nazi folk band!" I agree that no one needs to explain their art/ symbolism. But if you dress exactly like a literal nazi, you can't then act perplexed as to why everyone thinks you are one/ neo nazis worship you, especially when you have done nothing but fan the flames for decades. haha
he's right about the internet. never would have discovered these guys without it.
***** Depends if you live in a remote place, potentially anywhere in the world.
I think with that comment I was mostly referring to myself. as in no one introduced me to the stuff, I discovered it through the internet.
slurpuffsentinel Internet is the best thing i have!
Same here... If it wasn't for the internet, I would never heard of Throbbing Gristle and Coil. Same with alot of industrial music I have.
slurpuffsentinel if you like Coil, you might like Download (skinny puppy side project), and Dead Voices on Air (Piss Frond is a good start).
Such a beautiful man. There's so much wisdom he calmly passes off as common sense.. haha. I thought I would break down watching this again now that hes gone, but I cant get past his humanity. And he helps me realize that humanity far supersedes mortality.

You must have such a dull life.

"There is no genre." Hallelujah brother!!! Genre is a short cut to thinking. No genre. All individuals.
I think he meant there is no genre for Coil, not in general

You'll be always in my heart,Peter.

Thank you.
Does anyone know what happened between him and Douglas P.?
Videos5197 I can imagine it had something do with Douglas being a crypto fascist
NarwhalsArePimps the assignment of the label “crypto fascist” isn’t that more appropriate to the situation there?? Because narrative is exclusive to perception no???
He was too cute. ❤

Why do I sense a detachment in Peter when the interviewer mentioned Death in June/Douglas Pearce? Did anything happen between the two?
I love Sleazy but he makes no sense here. So is that it for TG? No more tours, no Velvet Underground cover album, no songs that completely abandon music theory, but still don't suck like most songs that completely abandon music theory.

a good interview with an influential artist?
I disagree with having to explain ones art , I like both DIJ and Coil and dont agree that one should have to pander to such an interrogation .
The thing about DIJ is that Douglas has been whining for like 15+ years about being called a nazi. I wrote this in response to someone else here but I will copy and paste it again here:
