The scene where her and Ty Lee are greeting Mai is even sad to look back on now because Azula actually sounded genuinely happy to see her again. It just so sad they had a massive fallout....
it was for the best though; Ty & Mai are in better positions in their lives compared to that psycho whose mental breakdown (after being defeated by a waterbender during Sozin's comet) was EXTREMELY satisfying & hilarious for me. Like, "YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED, AZULA! BYE!!"

First of all, Katara at that time thought it was Suki and the other Kiyoshi Warriors and she was shocked to see "Ozai's Angels" instead of them once she mentioned Zuko and Iroh. Also, Mai and Ty Lee are too quick. And why didn't she invite the Earth King to go to meeting of invasion? He at least should learn about military strategy.
@@margarethmichelina5146 Wrong episode. We're talking about the scene from 1:47 that was from 'the chase'. What you've described occurs in the episode the Guru, which happens much later
You forgot that they were exhausted after travelling all night without sleep. So either Katara's too tired to bend the river as it mayrequire more energy or more bending energy thus opted for her punch water instead which may be easier, faster, efficient and effective.
Or she is both tired and totally did not consider the river option. Afterall, exhaustion does that to people.
Now imagine being totally exhausted and you have to be 100% up par to fight and not just with any enemy but the 'Ozai's Angels'.
Totally understandable why Katara didn't used the river.

the scene where they both betray Azula is so pivotal and impactful and iconic. They chose love over fear, friendship over control. But in doing so they also broke Azula, because as horrible as she was she genuinely cared for and thought of them as friends, probably the only people in the world she trusted and viewed as her equals. She just couldn't convey that and saw it as weakness so she used fear and aggression to control and manipulate them.

Ty Lee should have been the one to BLOCK Azula's chi paths, rendering that psycho completely powerless.. Since they had been close, Ty Lee could've turned on Azula by poking any of her chakras when needed. BOOM!! No more blue flames

Edit: But that actually works really well with her Character we get to know during the beach episode were she tells about being treated like just another sister without having the feeling of having her own name (really struggling to put this into words lol).
In conclusion since the Kioshi Warriors all look like Avatar Kioshi it probably triggered something in her reminding her about that past of hers to speak out that very sentence you wrote down.

It's really ironic of how Azula can defeat most of the benders either physically and mentally but got defeated by her best friends who are *Non* benders in mentally (Mai by saying she loves Zuko more than she fears her) and physically (getting Chi-blocking from Ty Lee)
I believe she surrounded herself with non-benders purposefully as to not get overpowered, therefore underestimating them when they ultimately betrayed and defeated her
She wasn't fighting them though. She wasn't fighting ty Lee at least and mai would have been roast duck if they actually fought. Yes they're talented but she is a skilled and agile fighter physically, and has terrifying bending to go with. Lightning and fire string enough to cut through bricks would have been too deadly.

These three are so strong together, they all have different styles of fighting and I admire it so much!!!

Mai was my favorite of the 3. Loved her emotionless personality and very brazen behavior. Thought she was cool and her and Zuko were perfect together.

In the end Azula deсided to let Mai and Ty Lee live. This and some other decisions made by her makes Me think that deep inside she is not such a bad person as her father.
