Thank goodness you didn't cut out the commercials. Whether you realized it at the time or not, you've captured the early 90's as it was, as we all remember it. That's magical and priceless, and that's why leaving the commercials in are always important! Thank you very much for this upload.

Growing up in South Florida for four critical years in the mid-'60s and later into the '70s when visiting relatives, I enjoyed watching Ralph Renick's 6pm news on WTVJ (4), when it was on the CBS network. I did not know he was 6' 4" tall. He established so many news firsts in local reporting, that is what made him a legend. I can't believe he was only 62, but he started at only 21 in 1949, which again was a rarity to be a news anchor. R.I.P., Ralph.

I grew up in Miami and his son, Ralph jr, was a friend of mine. A good family and a good man.

Tom Randles had a very brief stint here at WTVJ Miami but this was no doubt, one of the most significant Stories that He covered in what eventually became a storied news Career for Him. Tom went on to a lengthy career as a celebrated news anchor at WSMV in Nashville where He also became a successful Country Music Artist in his leisure time.

Sorry, it's on the original recording but is cut off because of youtube's 30 minute upload limit. I don't have an edit program to cut out commercials.

I still reading in some online archives that CBS was trying to purchase WTVJ at a discounted price before NBC ended up buying the station in the 80s. Had CBS purchased the station, I'm sure the first thing they would've done was bring Ralph back to WTVJ (heck, they hired him to work at 6 after they bought that station). Ralph was a class act. I'm from the NYC market portion of New Jersey, was raised on two greats in Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel, even those two couldn't hold a candle to Ralph, that's how great he was.

The year before Andrew. If he had lived, be sure he would've covered that.
