    No talking, just walking. Exploring the English Countryside. A nice gentle walk around Whaley Bridge Town, Derbyshire. This Town isn't too far from my home Town of New Mills, and so is a place very familiar to me. It was a joy to capture it in peak Autumn, all the trees are so vibrantly coloured. In 2019 Whaley was in the news when the dam of the near by Toddbrook reservoir threatened to break. It effected many of my friends and family whom had to evacuate.
    My 127th of hopefully many RUclips Walks.

    About Dave's Walks
    Hi there, I‘m Dave! I've lived in the English Countryside all my life, and I love it! I enjoy walking, and couldn’t help but notice just how beautiful the UK can be away from the cities. I found myself inspired and decided to get some camera equipment and make some walking videos so I can share my walks of the beautiful countryside with everyone!
    I mainly focus on small towns, villages, picturesque landscapes, rolling hills and mountains, forests and canals, all along the coastlines in England, Scotland, Wales, and who knows maybe one day further afar!
    I upload every Sunday 11.45am GMT (3.45am PST) (6.45am EST) (5.15pm IST) (9.15pm ACST)

    For my money English countryside has to be the most beautiful in the world .Even ahead of Switzerland and other countries in Europe.There is something curiously Ethereal yet real about the English villages 😊It’s like being inside some of Constable’s paintings.Thanks Dave for these .Love from India 🇮🇳

    I live in the state of Arizona which is in the Desert Southwestern part of the USA. My state is 1 1/2 times larger than Great Britain. I see all your beautiful countryside and I'm so amazed because I think of England being overcrowded. I Adore this town Whaley Bridge and I wish I had British citizenship so I could live there. Thank you so much for this pleasant walk.🇬🇧❤🇺🇸

    Happy Birthday to Celia! 100 years strong from the USA. A lovely town walk Dave. I love the different types of houses and buildings with add-ons. Big round bushes, flowers falling over the walls and what would England be without the hedge rows. I even peeked and noticed a mailbox not standing on its own but built in to a rock wall, I guess so it wasn't in the way. Still love to see the clear running water flowing everywhere. Magic, just pure magic watching your videos. A big hug from the USA (but I am Canadian by birth, my parents both British). 🙂

    I love how everything is green in Britain. I love gloomy weather. I love the roads, bridges, houses, and everything else built of stone hundreds of years ago. I love how everything is narrow and follows the infrastructure of 500 years ago. I would choose to live in the UK over California. My other favorite place is Japan.

    Another lovely video. I really like the subtitles, as they give us info on the places you visit. Driving around the UK gave me the chance to see many pub names and I found them fascinating. Had to laugh when you mentioned The Greyhound pub name;. I have a real greyhound and she is a true friend. We have a town nearby called Bird-in-Hand (and yes, the jokes to go along with it!) and some others but I don't think they occur in the UK, so I'll pass on that one! Thanks for sharing!

    Really appreciated your use of subtitles. They are a great addition to your videos without any chatter to interfere with the ambience. These are not just picturesque places: you are adding history and context. It does however entail extra work on your part. How about adding them as closed captions though? That way they can be an optional extra to the video. More of this please.

    • @DavesWalks
      @DavesWalks  Год назад +2

      I tried messing around with the closed captions, and just didn't like them, I figured by simply making my own I could then make them more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It is a little extra work, but I enjoy it and adds to the quality.

    A lovely walk around one of my favourite places in Britain.
    I'm curious though why you didn't visit the village's most well-known landmarks: the historic canal basin, with its beautiful Georgian Transhipment Warehouse, and the now infamous Toddbrook dam. (You were just yards from the latter when you skirted round the edge of Memorial Park). 🙂
    Nonetheless, I very much enjoyed your film. It was great seeing the village from the point of view of a new explorer.
    I look forward to watching more of your lovely films, and I must say it's refreshing to find a RUclips channel where the content is quiet, and all about the location, rather than the presenter. Thank you. 🙂

    • @DavesWalks
      @DavesWalks  Год назад +2

      Unfortunately the Toddbrook dam is completely boarded up and walled off ever since the incident where the dam nearly collapsed, there was no good places to view it, the canal basin however, I plan to be in a separate video where I explore around canal basin the follow the canal round to Bugsworth basin 😃👍

    • @RowanCreative
      @RowanCreative Год назад

      @@DavesWalks Thanks for your response, Dave. :) There are a few places where you can get a sneaky peak at the dam through viewing windows that the construction company have provided in the boarding, but they might not be immediately obvious.
      If you return in the near future, your best bet is to take a wander up Reservoir Road (53.329609531192865, -1.9848581280710265), from which you can look down at the reservoir and dam, and also have a clear view of the pontoon platforms which host the pumping gear that keeps the water level low.
      You'll just have to come back when the work is all done at the end of 2024 to check out the newly-modified spillway! 😀
      I look forward to the film of your next visit to Whaley. Maybe you should pop down on one of the Saturdays when the local traders' market is on at the Transhipment warehouse (second Saturday in every month), then you can get some food and drink and try out some local craft beers, if you feel so inclined, to refresh yourself on your walk.
      Buggy Basin is a great spot; very historic. Did you know at the far end of the basin, just beyond The Navigation inn, is the start of the former Peak Forest Tramway? Much of the old track bed is now the Peak Forest Tramway Trail and provides a lovely walk to Whitehough and Chinley. www.peaksandpuddles.com/cycle-routes/peak-forest-tramway-trail/
