I would cite a male leader that I admire if I actually admired them. Why constrain her choices of heroes to women? Should Asians only have Asian heroes?
my take is the person you cite should have similarities with you in some way so that they can envision you becoming that person or close enough - it's not about nationality or gender. could be the fact he/ she went to the same school/ company/ overcame the same challenges growing up.
