Sadly by the time most of us get to clives age we have already known someone close that took their own life....without warning. From my own experience the ones that actually DO do it (as opposed to people threatening it to seek attention), don't let you know first. It's such a shame. And Malc my dearest friend, if somehow you are reading this now, I hope you are also able to understand how much you are missed and how much everyone truly thought and thinks of you. You truly were an incredible guy, clever and caring.

@@caleb2490 I'm sorry to hear that. What made malcs worse was he planned everything. His will was detailed to every last item. I felt so bad when I read it thinking that surely it would have rang alarm bells with his solicitor. I'm sure you will never forget your friend and we need to use their memories to help us with life going forward. Best wishes

Yeah, that hit me right in the feels.
I remember just out of sheer dumb luck one of my friends ended up in the right crowd and pulled me into a google hangouts call with a bunch of randoms i didn't know.
I remember hearing a voice and thinking "do I know that from somewhere?". He mentions some of the people in the call were RUclipsrs. I then went through my RUclips subscribed list and there he was. Ed. AKA Aussie50
Let's just say the back end of 2019 was a fucking rough time and not because of the coof. I remember growing up watching this dude's videos in high school. They say never meet your heroes, but i have no regrets for that. I'd started engineering in college by the time i'd joined the hangout and had some pretty complex CAD modelling to do. That guy was a super chill, genuine dude that always had something interesting to say. Always encouragement, and no putting people down or being condescending/patronising to them about stuff like i was used to from others i was associated with.
I miss staying up every other night unemployed watching the sun go down on my side, and it come up on his/vice versa. Like i know the earth is a spinning ball with the sun off yonder, but there's just something strange about looking out of the window and it being night, and seeing the sun out on someone's camera feed that you're talking to in real time. Just chilling, talking about cool shit we're doing or researching.
What hurt the most is that his stuff was still signed into Discord after he did it. For ages too. Didn't help with the denial. After that, it just didn't feel right sticking around. What really got me past that was seeing his friends take the kit out of his workshop. I was in the pub with some friends at the time. We'd just gone to see something at the cinema. I forget what it was. I just broke down into tears and was totally incapable articulating what was wrong. I'd heard everyone else talk about it on discord but somehow that wasn't enough. Seeing that and realising that yeah, he is gone and this isn't some sort of hoax just fucking destroyed me.
So yeah. I don't know what good I'd do because I've since been to therapy about a number of other issues and they told me even they can't save everyone from suicidality. But if I could, I'd go back just so i could shoot the shit with him till the early hours of the morning just one last time if nothing else.
The thing is, if they aren't in that suicidal state, there isn't much you can do. A lot of the time it's a last minute decision they make that they won't necessarily tell you about when they go about doing it for obvious reasons. You'd have to know exactly where they did it, when, intervene and physically stop them. Even then, they might not open up about their issues. But i'd never stop anyone from trying.

I probably commented it before, but I really appreciate that you never make a big deal about the differences in terminology between different dialects of English. Some dudes get their poop in a group over vacuum tubes being called “tubes”, while others get their knickers in a knot over them being called “valves” (for example). You just matter of factly acknowledge the different names for things and then move on with life.

From my youth (I'm 70) seems to match perfectly the bottle metal cap remover mounted on the front of the Pepsi Cola sales refrigerators at delis and gas stations. Back in those days, there was no such thing as a "Can of soda", they only came in bottles. Also beer bottles. Anyway, might be interesting if you could make a "BigCliveBottleCap remover" as a novelty? "Merch to sell" just curious!

Tyler Oakley, who started on RUclips as part of Five Awesome Gays, has said something very insightful about that, related to Phil Lester and Dan Howell's sexuality: Even though the rumours were abundant, and he is a close friend of both, he never asked. If a person doesn't want their sexuality (or gender or race or disability etc.) to be part of the conversation, others must respect that.
But I understand the curiosity. Clive has the bear flag in the background, like Laura Kampf has the rainbow flag. But that could also signify that they're allies. When I see the flags and symbols, I try not to assume about the owner. But seeing them makes me very happy. Because, as an openly gay man, I know that they will have my back, if someone comes at me.

@@rasmis I am straight, and am of the opinion that someone's sexuality has zero bearing on how I see them or interact with them. Though saying that a do have a little problem with gay men, in particular their chat up lines, they are terrible :)
I was out with a girlfriend in Hull and we went into a bar to meet up with some of her friends, it was apparently a renowned gay bar. I got chatted up by about 5 different guys in an hour. I did politely decline their advances and they were all cool with it bar one who insisted I took his number "in case I changed my mind". I took it all as a complement. Later that evening I was telling my girlfriend about it and she was rolling on the floor laughing. Apparently I am a "Bear" (or was, getting too old now lol).
To comment on your last sentence. It should not be the case that if someone is being assaulted or insulted because of their sexuality, sex, age, colour, religion or whatever the difference that someone from that group would stand up for you, every person should. My opinion is that if you are a nice person, then you are nice, if you are an asshat, then your an asshat, it doesn't matter about the irrelevant difference. So be who you are, just try to be nice to others.

Hello, and I bet that you MIGHT have been asked something like this before ???
What it is, I was GIVEN an iPhone 7+ phone. But the only thing that I did NOT get was the ORIGINAL lighting charging cable. So in doing what a LOT of others will have done, was to go to the good old £pound shop to buy a charging cable. But over a few years, I had bought a LOT of charging cables. As EVERYONE over time suffers with a faulty cable at the phone end of the cable. As I ONLY ever use the cable to CHARGE the phone up with. But as I was thinking, that at the lighting end of the cable, is to use ALL 4 of the wires, and to do the SAME at the USB end. As my thinking is that if 1 of the power wires was to fail, then the other wire would take up the power. Or do you think that it is a STUPID thing to do. Or should I go out and buy a GENUIN iPhone charging cable for my iPhone 7+. As I have seen them at STUPID prices. But in the long run, would it be better than to always have 2 or 3 £Poundland cables at home as a standby even carry 2 NEW unopened packets in my coat and backpack.
    Many thanks in advance.
    P. S. Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes, this is down to me needing to have cataracts removed from BOTH of my eyes.
    Bye from John C

Clive, I always look forward to your videos. I spent a few years working in Scotland (lived in Dumbarton) and you remind me of a few people I worked with.
I was wondering if your store was going to open up again any time soon? I know that you closed t due to the massive postage cost hike, particularly to the US, but what about us in the UK? Id love to build a Big Clive version of the "Dezac Ionizer" you did back in Sep 2018

There are drawers with "steppers" and with "arduino" in the background … but I can't remember having seen any video on these topics.
In general, I'd love to see more "create" type videos and less "fix" or "take apart" videos, if I'm honest. (yes, even if it's _creating_ carbonated Baileys!)

I honestly hate question: "name favorite... ", it's like trying to pick grian of sand from a beach. For example I listen to lots of types of music starting from Aphex Twin, going thru dark ambient artist like Lustmord, or Japanese light classic instrumental ambient ending in heavy Russian hard bass... And how im supposed to pick one style or track? Even picking two or three is impossible...

if i had a time machine, id like to take some time to compile a list of events that are unclear about the actual events, and just observe. personally id basically prefer a time looking glass rather than actually being transplanted into the timeline and risking multiverse theory.

... If you have seen the video on solvated electrons, does that not prove electrons exist? Also, what, to you, is an electron? I hear they move slower than a snail, which puts pay to my theory that over decades, a wire will shorten at one end and grow at the other, if on dc, ac may provide a canceling effect

Your description of the operation of valves and tubes was basically the way they work. I suggest avoiding them in projects, or for experiments. Take it from my experience, high voltage will hurt you if it finds you! I suspect you know that. I have no questions for you. I already have 2 degrees to keep straight in my head. Is there any real advantage to replacing normal LEDs with laser diodes? Seems to me that lasers aren't very good for general illumination (because physics) and most of the technology in laser headlights is about turning the laser light back into normal light while allowing the manufacturer to use the word "laser" in its marketing material... and charge an appropriate premium (tinfoil hat at the ready).
