Been there many times since im close. The Blue Comet thats below the Standard Gauge is actually 100% original. Based what i told by the staff, the owner bought that in 1935. He had it on a shelf in a case and every Christmas, he runs the train. After Christmas he puts it back on the shelf, did it every year till he passed away. After he passed away, it was given to his daughter, who donated the set to the museum.
Thanks so much for watching! I heard that story while at the museum by the same curator that informed us on the live steam engines. He said it’s considered to be the highest rated TCA blue comet and they’ll use it to compare with other comets for grading
Thanks for watching! Haha 😂 y’all troublemakers 😂. They do have lots of red buttons to push especially that horn and whistle button. That HO layout is spectacular!
Keep in mind the museum is open to any TCA members who wish to volunteer during the off season on new and upcoming projects , maintaining and upkeeping takes a lot of help . Generally work sessions are Saturdays starting around 8 - 830 AM
A very nice video. I remember visiting this museum as a child, and the last time I went there was about 10 years ago. My former college roommate and I spent the day riding the Strasburg Railroad and visiting the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, then checked into the Red Caboose Motel. Next day, we went down the road to the Toy Train Museum.
Thanks so much for watching! Very cool! I’m not too far from the Strasburg area, but still need to stay the weekend at the Red Caboose. Sounds like a fun trip
@@NixCrossing Indeed it was, and you're quite welcome :). I very much enjoy visiting the Strasburg Railroad and the various museums/shops in that area, though I live closer to Center City Philadelphia (just under half an hour) than I do to Strasburg (a little over an hour).
@@NixCrossing Lionel did make proximity fuses during WW2. Now I don't know if this is true or not but SUPPOSEDLY Lionel "borrowed" some of the technology and used it in their short-lived post-war "Electronic Train Set."
I started out finding one of you old videos of project prewar trains you have, then fell in the rabbit hole letting your RUclips channel feed me for a couple of hours. The Lionel 681 videos and now on this video. All great stuff Nick! Thanks for sharing. Glenn Gordon in AZ
@NixCrossing I really enjoy the prewar and postwar lionel trains and have some modern mth proto 2 engines as well. I just picked 2 prewar sets yesterday with a 224 and 1666 engines plus about 10 freight cars. Engines need some work but it will be rewarding to get them back running again.
Oh wow, thanks for bringing us along Nick! What a place! I wonder if they have mops staged around the museum to deal with the collectors slobbering on the floor? I was at the Toy Train Museum about 20 years ago. They had a guest book which they asked visitors to sign and leave a comment. I signed it of course, and the comment I left was "This place is like Christmas morning gone berserk!" The best description I could think of! Gotta get back there one day! Thanks gain Nick! And a Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Thanks so much for watching and for the fantastic description! I was mostly drooling at the shelf behind the O scale layout and of course the pre war room. As much as I like the new sound action stuff , I LOVE pre war stuff 🤩. Merry Christmas to you as well! 🚂💨
If you ever get to Strasburg and you're into toy trains try and make the time to see it, you won't be sorry! Actually, I think to get the most out of the Strasburg experience you really need two days, or at least a day and a half.
Great video Nick. The TCA Museum is really a great place. I have not been there in years! I really need to plan a visit there in the spring. I hope your training is going well.
Thanks for watching! Training is going great 👍🏻 I’ve been learning how to stay alive and safe with a lot of rules. Definitely recommend checking out that museum
I went here a year ago, me and my grandparents were the only ones in the building but they had lots to see, Lionel Bachmann Tyco hornby Marx Lego and many more
Only been there twice this year. My favorites are the S and Standard gauge layout. When I finally get my train, I hope to have a S gauge layout. O on the ceiling. And Standard gauge on the floor.
Awesome ending to the video 🚂

it is an amazing museum, I went in with Heath and I think everyone forgot about me.. I was still pushing buttons a hour after it closed.

The big compass you pointed out was made during World War II for the US Navy.
That’s very cool! I heard he also use to work on the prox fuse that helped the US during WWII as well.
