3:09 Fun fact: the colored paper also helps with people who have trouble reading. For example, i read easier on a yellow paper then on a white one. It really helps dyslexic people
I know this was 2 years ago but do you know of any notebooks similar to the mirdori colour paper in a4? Because I really want a midori colour paper in yellow or green but its only in a5 and I need a4 for school.
I wish American school teachers learned about Japanese notebooks when they have professional development days. They still insist on using the inferior ones from Walmart, Staples, etc. Worse, in middle school and high school, they are required to buy big, bulky, cumbersome binders as well as notebooks. Even though the kids rarely carry textbooks each day, their backpacks are so heavy. My son is already complaining about back pain.
I get your point and I mostly agree. However, in low income areas, we can't expect our students to be able to afford expensive Japanese/European notebooks. This is especially true when you consider how many pages the average student goes through a day, in at least 3-4 core classes. If I had Kokuyo notebooks when I was in middle and high school, I would have spent at least $100 more. Sure, it would have been nicer, but I don't know if my parents had the extra income for that. I definitely agree with the binders though. Making students carry 2-3 inch binders is pretty much detrimental to their health because now their backpacks are so heavy and the binder alone takes up most of that space. Unfortunately, they're the most convenient (readily available) and easiest way to promote organization.
I have 7 classes in highschool and I still have to carry a binder because my district is AVID. The only class I use it in is Spanish. All my other classes let me use notebooks. I can barely pick up my backpack. When I do I have to use both hands and even that is a struggle. I also carry a computer and a sketchbook for art class. It's very frustrating.
Just a tip, The sarasara tsurutsuru and zarazara are basically the onomatopoeia that Japanese uses to express a the surfaces Sarasara - smooth Tsurutsuru - REALLY smooth Zarazara - kinda wrinkly? (Mainly used to describe sand and things of the kind)
I tried Japanese stationery for the first time this year and now I don’t think I could come back to the cheap ones we’re used to in the US. This is true quality.
Anything is better than US stationery. I find Japanese notebooks the best, followed by Italian and German, then Colombian, then Spanish and after that, Brazilian.
These are all so cool and fancy (compared to the cheap ones in the U.S.) that I wouldn't be able to use them lol. I don't care if some of these are basically the Japanese equivalent to said super cheap stuff and aren't special enough to be intimidated by them, they're super fancy and cool by comparison!
Instead of using loose leaf pages as refil for my planner, I use the entire notebook like those in 0:30 , so once done, I can just store the whole notebook away, and if i make mistake, I'll just tear out the entire page. It's purrfect 😆
I am new to Japanese paper but have found that my favorite brands of inks pens are Japanese. I just love Japanese paper and pens. They are so glorious to write with and the paper is so wonderfully smooth. I've always been a pen and paper collector so my money is going to Jetpens left and right.
I really wish I knew about Japanese stationary sooner. I only found out about it after I graduated college. I would have really loved the soft spine spirals. The amount of times they've unraveled, snagged on my clothes, scratched me, stabbed me...I have a mortal hatred for those metal spines. The paper on the kokuyo ghosts really bad with jel pens, but the soft spines alone are worth every con.
I am obsessed with the Midori paper pads they have changed my life I used them to get my thoughts out, preplann , brainstorming bring me clarity with my life . I do used them messy with my sharpie it was very interesting to see it look neat with clean handwriting 😆 There are always out of stock its the wrost I mean everywhere 😪 even amazon jp. Dont come back in for another 5 months + and when its there its limited quantities.
The loose-leaf notebook had me going. I genuinely thought it was going to be the shell of a notebook that you put loose-leaf in. I really thought it was a 26-ring binder. 😂
Could you please do a video about Japanese/Asian in general writing paper that works well with fountain pens? I see plenty about notebooks and journals, but most, if not all of my writing is correspondence, not in journals and notebooks, at this point in my life.
Hi there! We'll add your idea to our list. We also have a blog that highlights some fountain pen paper for correspondence: www.jetpens.com/blog/The-Best-Fountain-Pen-Paper/pt/730#stationery

Please, please stock the A5 Slim Function Notebooks from Luddite. The Daily Planner pages are awesome pairs to the Jibun Techo weekly, as are the Todo books and Visualizer. They also fit in the TN regular covers if you don’t mind a bit of overhang…
Having ordered so much from Japan over the years between stationery, lenses, and game consoles I just love the thoughtfulness that seems to permeate that culture. I could be off base. But I feel like their favorite customer every time.
Hi there! We don't have the exact gsm of the paper, but it's on the lighter side and performs excellently with fountain pens. The paper has a satiny feel that fountain pens can effortlessly glide over. It does has a significant amount of showthrough.
Hi there @JetPens! I was wondering if you do international shipping? Because I really wanna get my hands on the school supplies that you guys have shown!
I love notebooks with options on paper type for texture vs smooth. Still trying to find that perfect notebook that has that AND muted or cream colored paper.
My goodness I need some of these. They would make my life a little easier. Especially the cross grid one like OCD boxes here I come!!! I have major OCD and if you do to you'll understand the counting dots and lining up line problems. XD
We have a Japanese shop in Australia called Daiso. They sell notebooks, looseleaf paper and binders, each costing $3-10 AUD. I love their 30 hole looseleaf binders because they lie flat and don't take up much room in a bag.
Wait I’m just gonna say this. why on earth can’t schools allow us to buy and sue our own books and binders and stuff?? Like I understand set textbooks but why do we all need to same writing books?? Like my friend has naturally big writing which makes writing in her books annoying and cumbersome, and some of my friends prefer smaller line gaps because it makes their work look nicer, and they can fit in more. The school inspectors are hardly going to close down the school because the students have notebooks that aren’t a school regulation! (I’m sorry just ranting about where I live)
I splurged a little and bought some Japanese stationary for grad school. Then bought a cute notebook at Walmart here in the US. BAD IDEA. I tried writing in the Walmart notebook and just couldn't do more than half a page. I am now a paper snob.
I'm looking for a notebook like the Kokuyo Campus Loose Leaf Notebook, but I'm looking for size A4 rather than B5. I'd like to be able to remove the sheets. Any recommendations? Thanks!
