"Square Enix doesn't like doing sequels in other systems." Square: Final Fantasy VII, my beloved. Love your channel! I have been following your journey for like a month now. And I'm hyped to see your XIV journey continue too!
I bought a PS4 with my stimulus in March 2020 solely for FFVII Remake. I also bought Ni No Kuni 1 and 2 and finished my backlog Pandora's Tower,Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story and came out of lockdown with a posh accent and people thought I went insane...but that's a story for another time.
I hate these extra sequels because it robs the cast of their deserved ending. Like let them be happy and Stop forcing them do plot and character repeats, overriding the happy ending they worked for and earned just for sequelitis and money. Im guessing the staff dont really talk bout it because it got so much negativity so maybe theyre hoping people just forget bout it.
Welp, this is the first video from this channel I'm watching as it releases, and the first after catching up with the channel as a whole. It was more difficult than I thought it'd be: Binging 35~ hours of content here before needing to wait for more, but I'm happy I made it. And what a video to have made it in time for. This novella has always been such a... strange little thing. Haha. I remember watching "Will" when I bought the HD Collection, then seeking out vague info on 2.5. It's nice to finally have the fullest picture I can as an English speaker. Aside from the fanfic theory/rumor, I've also heard it said that the original creator of FFX didn't want a happy ending to their story, and all of this nonsensical grotesqueness was a response to someone else writing a happy ending into X-2. I have no idea how accurate that statement is, but it's more believable than the fanfic idea, and it would explain a lot. In any case, thank you so much as always for your work on this video and I'm excited for the next!
@@TomLazan He might've been. I didn't pay much attention to that sort of thing until a while after the playing through these games. Either way, I also don't really buy it. It's just another theory I figured was worth mentioning.
The skill “Sex” was actually going to be introduced as early as FF7 but was scrapped due to unknown reasons.. and (you’re not gonna like this..) it was with Tifa not Aerith 😭
@@TomLazan im actually wrong, it was an implied scene if you had a high affection stat with Tifa in the OG game during the Highwind scene with her and Cloud, but I know you rocked with Aerith so you wouldn’t have seen that scene if you were nice to Aerith
Man, thank you for this video. I've been trying to emotionally process 2.5 and "WILL" after just beating and adoring (and crying at) X / X-2. For me, 2.5 and WILL are attempting to show us the consequences of power relative to it all, and the journey into maturity. I really want to go into detail but honestly I'd be here all day. Simply put I feel like the writer(s) for 10 have the potential for an absolute masterpiece of heartbreaking proportions.. I can see it, they want to tell a very "real" romance, involved with the incredibly intense "realness" of the setting, and they have been telling that story slowly in the first 2.. Its just a shame that 2.5 and WILL were so hap hazzard that its giving me the same knot in my stomach that Evangelion did. The sex was off putting and probably could have been away with /handled better, but in retrospect I have to ask, if the plot were to continue, was it not inevitable? I know its possible to tell an excellent story without it, but we have to face the reality of the writing in the games, sex was in the formula somewhere, and I think they just struggled (for a myraid of factors) to execute the topic well. IDK im still toiling with my emotions on this one -- the shear emotional devastation I felt from X, to the fun respite that X-2 was.. but I again I have to thank you for this, it was enlightening, and its so important that it exists, It will be time to binge your videos so that I can engage with whats to come. Till then, be well! P.S: Its dumb but the thing that really killed my immersion with this games plot and story was honestly Lulu showing no signs of her imminent childbirth, were the devs afraid? Lazy? Uhg! YRP even addressed it! How silly!
It's most baffling how these balls just appear out of nowhere everytime and detonate in the most convenient fashion. There's also no consistency about their damage's scale, when first introduced Valm was on a higher location/room with stairs but when the ball detonated outside Valm fell off the stairs, later the fighter girl got blown up when the ball touched her foot, Tidus and Yuna were near each other when Tidus got hit with the ball and bent to catch it, only Tidus was blown up while Yuna was thrown away from the impact. On the boat with Ifahnal the ball detonated on his feet but neither Yuna nor Bria, nor the boat for that matter, suffered any damage despite them being in proximity
How Bevelle was able made fayths out of Al Bhed? The novel only stated that they were hunted down and forced to become fayth. It's established that fayth are people who gave their souls willingly, why those Al Bhed's fayth didn't become monsters considering their souls are hateful Tidus being given the ability to teleport anywhere is one of the most ridiculous parts of the novel, how is that possible according to the laws of Spira's universe? Where was this power the whole 1000 years of people dying and sacrificing themselves? The events of the novel sure happned conveniently. For a 1000 years Ifahnal didn't bother to use his super sayan summoning prowess but for some reason he did to summon a whole island the same day Tidus was brought back.. Another shady fella named Bria happened to come to Besaid only a month before the beginning of the novel, who met Tidus upon his return, and who also had connection to Ifahnal. AND for some an explicable reason the Fahrenheit (no not the Celsius) broke down and all radios stopped functioning, and a violent storm happened :/ I bet Nojima's outline of the novel was 'a ball blows up Tidus' then he proceeded to write stuff that led to that bit
Part of the cause behind all this is that Kazushige Nojima, the screenwriter for FFX and its sequels, was also the screenwriter for FF7 and its associated metastasis. (This is why, for example, you have the whole side plot in X-2 where a kid named Shinra wants to tap the immeasurable power of the Lifestr--*ahem*--Farplane and create a city that never sleeps. Nojima is on record stating that X-2 could be a far-distant prequel to 7, after they travel to another planet.) And just like 7+ has the inescapable Sephiroth, Nojima decided that X+ needed its own recurring villain and decided on Sin. Hence the whole "Sin gets Beckoned" thing in Will, because everything has to go back to Midgar eventually.
I wanted to correct your summarization of Velm and Kush. I don't blame you for getting Velm incorrect due to the half-assed translation, but Velm wasn't Al Bhed and he didn't create the "disturbingly realistic androids" (they're cyborgs, yup), that was a Bedohl named Alb who represented his people as a master scientist. He's watered down Hojo. XD Velm was just a man from Besaid who was assigned as a Guard to Kush, fell in love with her during his service, and shit happened with other Bevellian Summoners and Guards in the midst of kamikaze Zanarkand soldiers invading with blitz balls. Kush decides that instead of turning her beloved Velm into an Aeon Core (or Sacred Vessel as I like to call them), she agrees to become Ifarnal's (a Lucan Summoner who's in love with her, yes there's a love triangle). Since Kush and Ifarnal don't exactly have a close bond, the best they could do with the tantric ritual is conduct it sexually. Velm walked in post-coitus and flew into a rage, a mechanical Bedohl walked by and killed him, and Kush in her misery "beckoned" (more like summoned him) using her new power as a Sacred Vessel. Pretty much echoing what Yuna does now as of FFX-3. Kush did it for a thousand years. Yuna's been doing it for a year. The reason Yuna sounds dead inside is that to summon, you're supposed to draw on the power of the Fayth as a medium so you don't consume your own mana. (The scene on Mt. Gagazet with the wall of Fayth pretty much alludes to this). Yuna's literally dying keeping Tidus alive bc the Fayth from FFX don't feel like giving him plot armor. Otherwise, you're doing excellent work and I enjoyed listening to your video. This is Part 1, bc I'm still in the beginning, but I'm buckling down for the rest! 🎉
14:00 this makes sense relative to just ffx lore, idk about x2, but its like what seymour and yunalesca could do. They sacrificed people, then utilized their pyreflies. I am guessing, but she is doing a non-corrupt version or something.
I only heard about will as the audio drama where tidus cheats on Yuna and Sin just comes back. And for years I was like "ew why thats dumb" and I never listened for myself because I mixed up the fact that 2.5 was never translated with Will (which wouldn't have happened if it wasn't labeled as credits and extras but whatever). Personally I really like will now. Sin being back is dumb yeah but i guess if they just need a threat back the reason suffices. And I enjoy the actual reason why they broke up. Tidus didn't cheat, Yuna just wanted to protect him and the fact that he doesn't get mad and softly asks to meet the other man she supposedly loves shows that this wasn't weird Tidus character arc back tracking. That being said I hate 2.5 LMAO
Omg I was so scared when I heard this start , it sounded so much like my comments that I couldn't definitively be sure you had the full plastic experience.
Remaking X and then drawing a bridge from there to X-3 with expansion on the Jecht/Auron/Braska lore I think would be the best course of action. Going from PS2 graphics to PS5 or 6 also doesn't make a lot of sense, and just picking up where X-2 left off doesn't either, and considering MULTIPLE endings to that. It's not like Kingdom Hearts where we have a consistent gradual change in the experience, but more like huge gaps with some really dumb fillers. I think it should have consistent visuals, gameplay, voice actors and such like the new FF7 trilogy.
but the perfect ending of x2 implied that tidus doesnt have all his memories. so i kinda do want an x3 exploring tidus and yunas point of view of the new spira and maybe falling inlove over again.
Damn, I remember hearing a bit about this extra story, but never realised it was so...weirdly spicy? What I dislike most about it though is the fact that it seems to completely ignore the rich supporting cast from FFX and FFX-2 in favour of a deluge of new characters with dubious motivations and backstories: where are the political leaders of Spira, Baralai, Nooj and Gippal in all this? Does Maechen have anything to say about this alternative history? What's Kimahri's take on the situation? (is he once again silently standing in the background watching Yuna and Tidus go at it?) The return of Sin feels a bit cheap as well. I hope they ultimately go for something different. I dunno, I had always envisioned the springboard for FFX-3 being the conversation with Rikku that occurs if you manage to get 95% in FFX-2, where she and Yuna talk about 'Rikku's story' in the future: a third game centred around Rikku would be the perfect opportunity to address the final mystery of the FFX universe, "Who exactly are the Al Bhed?" because I always found it weird how Tidus had lived out the life of a normal guy from Zanarkand 1000 years ago and had heard of Chocobos but hadn't heard of the Al Bhed, perhaps implying that the Al Bhed maybe arrived suddenly in the intervening time? From there it could transpire that they had come from space (to maybe tie in further with the FFVII connections hinted in FFX-2) and were initially shunned by all other races for their literal otherworldness. In the wake of that revelation there could be some tension between Rikku and Gippal against Rin and Shinra in terms of who will unite the Al Bhed and decide how they progress as a people, with Rikku ultimately prevailing as their new leader and they resolve to explore space. Or something like that anyway. If they're still keen for sex in it then I guess Gippal and Rikku can do that too.
Square is cooking up some bullshit in the kitchen. At first i cried as this was my first FF game and i hold it so desr to my heart...but now this sounds so insane, I HAVE to see them make it ver batim just out of spite 😂
It just sounds like they're remaking X as a sequel to X and X-2 in the same way that a lot of really bad fanfics retell the original story with a few OCs and a few details changed.
"Blitz Bomb is a hazardous and extreme version of Blitzball" Shame Tidus learned it the hard way. And hey, I also want them to go back to finishing the last three episodes of FF15 because the novelization and Forspoken left a horrible, horrible taste. But maybe it's best to move on.
Unfortunately since this book flopped in Japan I doubt X-3 will ever happen. I think this book was the attempt to test the water, and it was not received well so I doubt the current written script for X-3 will ever see the light of day
It scares me that "Will" exists because to me it tells me that they're doubling down on the craziness of X-2.5
