Thank you sir. These are great reels by the way. I work closely with the product designer John. If something is amiss i alert him directly so everything can be adjusted instantly. I've had the chance to be with Penn but after learning what i've absorbed through-out the years Okuma is a great company as i've met with the execs through shows & fishing together. For such a large company they keep an open mind to listen to the "little" guy as well.
If you're looking at spinners the 14K size of this model using 50lb braid will work. If you need more yardage my largest sized spinner is the Coronado 80. Holds a tremendous amount of braided line!
I asked on that years ago because i though the same thing as you, product development told me the gearing isn't the same for the spools. So i ended up getting the larger units. But in the last year i see pics off charters showing +150lb tunas being caught on the 8K's so i stuck with them. I actually stopped using my larger units as the weight was much more for the rigs i had at that time. The "balance" felt off.
Whipping i use my Blue Azores 4000. In a few months the new 2020 Cedros 4000 & 6000 Spinner will be out. The Cedros is composed of proprietary materials & is light weight. Plugging reel? Cant beat the Makaira Spinner. A good reliable spinner is the Blue Azores & 2020 Cedros. Azores are aluminum & the new Cedros is lighter.
Scuba Chris mahalos uncle. Made up my mind to get the cedros. It’ll be my first okuma reel and for what it can do for that price i cant miss the chance to get’um. Mahalos uncle🤙
Nice review. Have had great experiences with most of my Okuma reels. I still have some larger 12 year old Coronados that have been tested and abused to their limits and work like champs. The New Blue Azores or 2020 Cedros for Jigging? Which gets the nod for durability in your opinion? Also, what are the gears and drive made out of? Again, thanks for making these videos. I found the 8k Surf reels here on your channel -- these things are BEASTS.
Sorry, all my units are in storage as i'm using different models now to evaluate. I can't keep over a 100 rods & reels in my room. I do remember they're not being hardly any differences between the 10K & 14K Cedros. The sizes were amazingly close. The handle & spool are aluminum like most models. The main body looks aluminum due to the black anodized coating but is a magnesium/alloy material that needed to be coated. Magnesium was needed to make the housing lighter but since it doesn't react well with salt it had to be treated. Like the recently released light-weight Hakai Baitcasters. The light magnesium alloy is prone to salt corrosion so that had to be treated as well. In both cases it was needed to greatly reduce the units weight.
It's a NEW proprietary body. I'm guessing a carbon mesh composite but not sure. Extremely light when compared to the Blue Azores which are all aluminum.
Okuma never missed the boat. It is partially sealed. The drag chamber has rubber seals to help keep water out. If you unscrew the drag cap the rubber seal is visible on the underside. Also it's light due to the proprietary materials used.
@@ScubaChris Thanks not exactly what I meant. Almost every reel on the market has a sealed drag system. If Penn and Quantum can produce a reel that has gaskets around the body to help stop water incursion at a sub 200.00 price point..Okuma missed the boat.
If you read the description it states the unit has a "Hydro Block water tight drag seal". If you remove the top drag cap the seal is exposed Ray. Thanks.
@@ScubaChris I understand .I own several okuma Reels .bim referring to the type of body sealing like spinfisher VI and the spheros by shimano. I love my okuma reels I just think they missed opportunity to bring something to market to compete in that price point. I own 3 older cedros models as well as several Azores in different sizes.
Great Video I just picked up the 8000 Salute

What rod would you pair with the 8000 for surf fishing. Thanks
Most H 11-14ft Surf Rods would be a good match.
Hello chirs, wich okuma reel new modelo you recommend me to drone fishing? Thanks

@@gonzarb93 That's an excellent reel! Powerful & holds a lot of line!
Can you put a 10000 spool on a 8000 body... I have a 8000 with braid but want another spool for mono with a higher capacity

Is the gear system still made of the same material as the azores?
Still SS but the Cedros is lighter.

I love both reel models, all personal preference. No right or wrong answers. The 8K Surfs are truly beast! Can't beat the price.
Do you know when the 6000 size will come out?
The 4K & 6K were due out the end of July but with the pandemic it'll be delayed now. Sorry.
I have a question
How long is the handle are the 14000 and 10000 handles of the reels ?
Is its body metal?

How many yards did you get on each?
On the 8K it can take slightly more then 300yd of 50lb braid. On the 10K 65lb, & on the 14K slightly less then 300yd.
Nice review 👍🏻
Thanks! 👍
Nice reels
They are! Way lighter then their Blue Azores counterparts.
Good review.

Hey scuba chris. Have you tested the okuma tomcat 14000 as yet?
I'm only field testing equipment that's released for the US. I already see a few RUclips videos on the Tomcat for several countries.
Do you have any videos for cedros 14k field test if so please share the link
Which 10 feet rod would you suggest cedros 14000
For the 10ft CEDROS SURF CSX ROD CSX-S-1002H i would use the Cedros 8000. The 14000 i think is too big.
