What a song... nothing more can be said about this man whose voice continues to be amazing What a great performance. Thanks ABC - I got my 8c worth today. one of the last great Australian poets,
Paul Kelly, what to say... If you know.. You know... This song is incredible, no chorus, 'just' a good recipe for gravy! I listen to this song every Christmas day, and if you do so whilst thinking about your family and loved ones, bring a tear to your eye it will!
"She,s the one that saved me" What a great performance. Thanks ABC - I got my 8c worth today. Such a good song. Reminds me of my parents every time, RIP mum, see you when you get out dad.
makes me cry EVERY time Such a good song. Reminds me of my parents every time, RIP mum, see you when you get out dad. Happy gravy day everyone. "It's the 21st of December, now they're ringing the last bell."
I'm a Brazilian teacher who lived in Australia for few years and I got to know this song through James Reyne..... Any way, when I showed it to my 10 years old students and interpreted the lyrics together....... they cried like I would never imagine!!!!! It was awesome! Merry christmas!
I lost my 51 year brother in February, I used to think the song that resembled him most was Making Gravy, but now of course is Meet me in the middle of the air. When you toured in Perth, I just found out he was dying, so thank you for singing both of these songs.
What a heart-string tugger! This is now my latest fave, the song I hum day-in, day out....and people ask me what it is....and I am more than happy to tell them.........I love you Mr. Paul Kelly.
paul kelly is one of Australia's best musicians. i have seen him live a few times and he is one of few singers i have seen who can make everyone in the rooms eyes well up with tears. beautiful.
Now I’ve seen countless live performances from many different artists and I thought they were all great, but then I had the pleasure of seeing Paul Kelly perform in Brisbane with Neil Finn in Brisbane, 2013. By far the best performance I will ever see in my live. This man is a true legend, I grew up listening to him and his voice is just so......well, perfect
Seen Paul play this live many times and it always resonates very strongly with the crowd. He is by far the greatest lyricist Australia has ever seen. He could teach Sir Paul a few things about melody.
"Just don't hold her too close, oh brother don't stab me in the back" For some reason I get shivers every time he sings that line... You are incredible Paul Kelly. Thank you for the beautiful music you have brought this world.
this song was my breaking point every xmas day.paul you've captured the emotions of a jail xmas........and I reckon ill shed a tear every xmas day I hear it......
What a great performance. Thanks ABC - I got my 8c worth today. My dad always sings this when we have roast ahahahaha Australia's Bob Dylan and that's a compliment to Bob Dylan
I first heard this around a long long time ago. Ive been there. Long long long time ago, but I cried like a baby. Its so sad what paths we decide to travel. Very hard to get out of that cycle of self abuse/addiction. Dont think jail is the answer for addiction. urgh well..... brilliant song for me
Try listening to this song at X-mas time on the inside during a 5 year stretch. Then you'll know what grief/guilt/sorrow really means............ Such an insightful, amazing and tragic song.
OMG!I don't know how I have never discovered this guy before. Just found him on youtube by virtue of his collaberation with Neil Finn. Wow - i think this performance is perfection.
Try this: The tuning is standard. The chords on Ultimate Guitar are correct except for one thing - The trick to get the right sound is not to hold down the notes on high B and E strings and low E string. Leave those stings open so that you are playing the notes to the F#m and G#m chords in the second position/bar chords with three fingers on the fretboard and getting the 'big' sound. You can see Paul doing this in the vid moving his left hand up and down the fretboard. I hope this helps you.
This still surprises me, just how many people do not know about Kinoteron Beat Turbo (google it), even though many people can conveniently produce their favorite production song with this beat making program. Thanks to my work buddy who told me about Kinoteron Beat Turbo, I can get access to the same beat making tools as the pros use.
One of the greatest Australian songs of all time, pure poetry, provoking and strikingly honest. Just beautiful.
brings tears to my eyes everytime i hear this magical song, i will listen to your music until the day i die and cant wait to bring up my kids with your music, like how i was brought up. i hope you know what an incredible impact you have made on the world
