      That trembling thing in his jaw is an alternate way to sing with vibrato (the shaking voice thing while trying to held a note while singing).

    The thing he does with his jaw is called gospel jaw. It's very common among gospel singers. I was in a gospel choir for years and a lot of the singers used that

    Thinking loud 🤔 The Jaw thing, maybe it could be to give emotions, the vib. In Your jaws when you cry ? 🤷🏻‍♀️ love the guy and his voice, and Damn he is funny 😁😍🎶🇩🇰

    • @BitesizeGuitar
      @BitesizeGuitar  4 года назад +8

      I'd say that's definitely the reason why he's doing it and what he's going for Dorte. I love his voice too, and there's definitely plenty of emotion in there! :) Just a little strange to physically see it manifest itself in the jaw as he'd be able to get the same effect without clenching his jaw! Thank you for watching and great to hear your thoughts too!

    @vivienyeow 3 года назад +3

    Not a singer here* I heard other vocal coaches talking about his jaw thing but I didn't understand why they were 'criticizing' him in that way😯 but I really like your explanation! (Think they never mentioned this when they didn't see his face while reacting but only those who see him live singing made those remarks, so the jaw thing doesn't actually express in his voice?)

  • @Crispnip
    @Crispnip 4 года назад +2

    the jaw tremble is just from him self teaching himself how to sing, so thats the negative that came out of it, i guess thats just how he feels he has to get his sound

    I love Capaldi. Great voice, great songwriting, great genuine young bloke. :)
    That jaw wobble is for sure a tic tho, & I hope he can drop it sooner rather than later. He 100% does not need it & it's hella distracting.

  • @CasperYOLO

    I think maybe some of these more “authentic” artists perhaps have more of these ticks and don’t even realise they’re doing them, which is good to see, shows that they’re perhaps lost in the moment, my first thought goes to the many famous and funny faces of John Mayer, that boy loves a good gurn

    • @BitesizeGuitar
      @BitesizeGuitar  4 года назад +2

      Haydn Williams I think you may be right! Particularly about John Mayer, the blues guitarist gurn phenomenon is a classic trademark and it’s actually recently been proven that pentatonic licks played whilst gurning are 67% more pentatonic than those played with a straight face! 🤪

    Lewis Capaldi sang this performance perfectly, nothing "distracting or strange", he's singing from the heart, all the emotions came from his soul and there's nothing pretentious tone whatsoever, the reason why I love the way he sings. I've seen other live version of this song from him and nothing better than this. The nasally sound again came from his style that sets him apart from the rest.

    amazing reaction and luved how u demonstrate how body and jaw movement has got to do with singing...
    I've been trying to cover this song my self but when it gets to the high notes.. one day I hit them and one day I quiet can't and i crack...:(
    any tips on how to do it? maybe I should do proper and longer warm ups.

    • @BitesizeGuitar
      @BitesizeGuitar  4 года назад +3

      Ah thanks man! So glad you found it interesting and enjoyable. Warm ups would certainly help but it sounds to me like you may just need some slight help with diaphragmatic support and/or placement. Should be a fairly easy fix, a little hard to explain in text, but when you reach a high/hard note try to 'support' the note by engaging your core muscles around your abdominal region and in your back. See how this affects the note and if it helps or worsens the crack (if it creates more 'break' in your voice it's likely more of a placement/breath issue). Sorry I can't be more help. If you'd like me to take a look in more depth you can send me a recording of your singing via my Patreon and I'll get back to you with a full critique and tips on how to improve! :)

    He was playing in bars and clubs in Glasgow from the age of 11. Everything is unique to him. This somg is so important right now with the 2nd pandemic of mental health issues esp amongst men and no offence you going on about his jaw is more annoying than the jaw itself. He is unique, fabulous and a superstar that Scotland loves 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  • @Mojohead20

    He’s style reminds me of an old vintage guitar. Rough around the edges and raw. Shame he does that Daffy Duck thing on some of the words just like James Arther, but that is all blown out of the water when you consider his natural raw voice and the emotion he delivers. I’d love to see a professional vocal analysis of Michael Bolton when a man loves a women.

      Hey thanks! Sorry yeh I know it can be so frustrating when people decide to critique rather than simply enjoy or switch off content. You may be interested to hear that since this video was published I’ve actually been in touch with Lewis and his people to try and help him correct what he apparently calls his ‘meat jiggle’, the jaw tremor I was commenting on in this video. Apparently he’s had it for most of his life due to fatty deposits built up in his cheeks and throat. Now he’s successful he’s decided he can finally afford the surgery to have them removed and is thinking of auctioning them off for charity so fans can actually own a part of him. This should sort the problem out and we shall see how it affects his vocal tone, perhaps I’ll do another video on it once he’s recovered, and then you could do another comment on that video so we’re all keeping busy. Many thanks!
