Stumbled across this today for $41, picked it up instead of th Glenmorangie original I was going for. Definitely get the floral/vanilla/honey notes. It's the cheapest single-malt I've found around, and I enjoy it. I'll certainly reach for it before Monkey Shoulder.

All the pleasure from what is a terrifically textured and honey-rich spirit is stripped out from the entire Aberfeldy core range by being presented at 40%. It’s usually great value here too, no question. But did I replace it? No. I didn’t. I don’t think you boys will either. Great point on how it stands against Monkey Shoulder though.

Got one of these last year for $38 and as you stated at 40% filtered/colored was not expecting a lot. Really think this would be very good at 46% NCF NC but was glad I tried it as a few months later picked up a Dewar's 15 and could pick the flavors of this out in it right away. Interesting that another Dewar's component Royal Brakla is also presented like this but, two other Dewar's ingredients Aultmore and Craigellichaie are both 46% NCF NC and are on my favorites list. Cheers

Guys I have a question about the bottle of Deanston 12 you just reviewed. It looks like it’s a light brown box. I’ve read the white tube version is way better. However you raved about the light brown version. Are they the same?? I found the same box version for $40 locally and didn’t buy it just Incase. What do you guys think?

This is $50 in my area. It's okay but if I'm going budget I'd go with Tomatin 12 @ $35 instead. Cheers.

    • @sundayeveningscotch4978

Great point. Prices are a bit different in my area, but the ratio is about the same - I'll almost always reach for Tomatin 12 when I want a less expensive bottle because it's so high quality, and 43% compared to so many others at 40% in that range.

See my way i can get the majorty of twelve year releases for 35$-40$. for expample i just got a glenmorangie twelve year lasanta cask for 40$ there's only a few brands that market above that $40 mark for a 12-year in my area such as Dalmore and Macallan

  • @uilleachan
    @uilleachan 5 лет назад +2

It's not a big brand, and for the price, even here in Scotland, it offers bang for buck. Always room for some of this at that price in my wheelhouse. Good to serve to the occasional whisky drinker...

If you guys enjoyed the 12, you should really try the 16. Double the price but seriously better profile IMHO.

I am not sure if you can get them in the States but the single cask bottlings from this distillery are the ones to go for.

I didn't take detailed notes when I tried this a couple months ago, but your notes are pretty much in line with what I recall, and for the price, it's a very good option to me.

Aberfeldy 12 is $35 in Brooklyn. Tomatin 12 @ 43% is about $35, Glen Moray 12 @40% is about $30, and the the supremely great valued Loch Lomand 12 @46 is $30, and IT is the best value going (despite what Mr. Ralfy says).

I like the 21 yr old, but not the 12 yr! I would pick a JW Black, Chivas Regal or a Glenfiddich 12 yr! And HP Magnus is that price! Don't forget Oban Little Bay at $39! Cheers!

Re production availability, the UK has 12, 16, 21 and some single cask (Distillery) editions (not sure what gets to the US though). Within the Dewars brands, I much prefer Craigellachie 13 or Aultmore 12 around this age, as they are both more interesting and higher ABV (46), NCF, at a higher price though.. Get what you pay for I suppose ..

  • @Gotamaluko

For less than 40$ you have single malts such as old pultney 12, ancnoc 12, Glenfiddich 12 etc.

I just got a glenmorangie 12 year lasanta cask for 40$ . I'm really not sure where you guys are looking but if you think that most 12s cost 60 or $70 you guys are getting a crap deal Wherever You Are don't mean to offend but the majority of 12 Years my way are about 35 to $40 and only a few brands that market 12 above that price, such as dalmore and macallan

I enjoyed this one but it's not worth it (to me) due to the minimum 40% abv and the $55.00 tag on it in my area; I will instead go with Ardbeg 10 every time for the same $. Enjoy the rest of the summer guys... and thanks.

Meh...Just because a bottle is reasonably priced doesn’t mean it should be bought! I’ve had 10yr Cask Strength whisky for $50-$60 that’s significantly better than this basic low avb offering. To me that’s bang for your buck...🤔

I'm relieved that you are not taking the 'standard RUclipsr' positive about everything approach. My bottle of this was easily the worst $40 I've spent on alcohol. The cheap sherry casks are tired and sulfurous, the nose and palate thin and one-dimensional. Certain 'tribes', ahem, are positive about everything they film, and can never be trusted. Please do not give in.

This dude forward to the left needs to work on his pallet if he thinks Aberfeldy 12 tastes anything like "Juicy Fruit"....describe distinct fruits, or stfu. He must also be the ringleader since everybody went along with his juvenile assessment... Such a disappointment in wasting time on this channel..... didn't even finish the video! For the price Aberfeldy 12 is a great introduction to a slightly peaty blend.
