Having been recently ordained as the elders quorum president, I have spent a lot of time pondering my leadership style and abilities. This lesson is so well timed as to be revelatory! Thank you for opening up the scriptures to me and helping me understand the mantel placed upon me. May I always be prayerful and humble moving forward.
My mother and I have been listening ever since Jacob 5 last time around. We listen while quilting and have it very loud to hear over the long arm quilting machines. We haven’t missed an episode, even the really long ones. We are happy to see that you are reposting your original episodes alongside the current content. Thanks, it makes it easier to find them. We are listening from St. George, Utah and make sure we tell all our customers about Unshaken. When I shared it with my brother, his wife said Oh, I know Jared. We grew up together and his dad was my stake president. She is Sara Eagar, now Sara Patren. Thank you for what you do. Keep being Unshaken.
The US is being presented with the Saducees or the Pharisees when it comes to government in the upcoming elections. Unfortunately both parties are crucifying the truth and the only Saviour for Government is Jesus Christ, as Jaerd speaks-King of Kings, all else are failures.
Please don’t equate the current government or previous one with that of the Book of Mormon. Although Joe Biden isn’t the greatest, the previous one was the furthest from what Mosiah or anyone in the Book of Mormon would consider to be worthy for the mantel of leadership.
Thank you for bringing up the part that some of us really consecrate our time serving our Lord. It really lifted up my spirit. Muchas gracias hermano Jared. Dios lo bendiga y a toda su familia.
The lighting is great. The scriptures are good colors to be read by low vision people like me. Thank you so much! And of course Jared is always great. So informative and presents it it all with stories and mind opening ways of looking at it all while keeping close to the scriptures and church doctrine. Thanks Jared and crew!
I always hear what you are not saying. It gives me answers to my prayers. Thank you for having the spirit with you as I strive to have the spirit with me.
I have been working on cutting down my internet use… but I somehow forgot what a lifeline your classes are at this historic time. They’re always so relevant no matter what I’m going through. We are so blessed to have these scriptures! I don’t comment much on these things but am still beyond grateful for your free & priceless service. It can be easy to feel alone with just the Lord right now. You help me in feeling out where the horizontal line of the cross can be. 🙏
Thank you for helping us make the right choice. My wife and I love spending time with you each day in the scriptures. We appreciate you sharing your love and knowledge of the Book of Mormon and the Gospel!
This episode and the scriptures have so much in common in our days as to in and out of church as well as the societies and govs. I need to show my children how to deal with different beliefs, opinions, and solve problems and stand up for my belief without being disagreeable. Natural man in me just wants to be mad at those who mistreat me or try to force their opinions on my children, but I need to be Christlike in solving problems for my children.
Brother Halverson, I so much appreciate you and others who spend so much time recording these podcasts. And doing it for free. Possibly spending some of your own money, since you have editing, etc. Thanks for this great podcast. No priestcraft here.
Your youtube videos are a necessary part of CFM now... It helps me see people and events from a celestial perspective... most of all helps me correct my reactions to others. I do miss the 'topic breaks' with labels. It really helps me remember and re-find material... let alone let me know where I can pause when life gets in the way. Is there any way to bring that back?
The people leaving because there isnt love there- that doesnt feel too cold and definitely not the prodigal son. Those are very strange comparisons. They are following the love of Christ. The challenge is following the love of Christ AND the covenants. That is a massive challenge. I love the idea of craft v hood. Wifehood v wife craft. Motherhood v mother craft. Very thought provoking.
53:00 What if there are two cycles? Else Bednar mentioned the second one to the CES instructors in the early 2000's. It is the 5 point upward growth cycle. We now see it in the temple. It moves clockwise as all plant and animal growth does. It is Belief, Faith (hope and charity), Repentance (which becomes obedience), Baptism (which becomes sacrifice - as we partake of the sacrament each week), Gift of the Holy Ghost (which becomes upward growth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ because of the testimony of the Holy Ghost), and then again Belief at a higher level up (which becomes chastity - devotion to a more pure life), and finally again Faith (which is the action of consecration of all we have in this earth life). This is the upward growth cycle which protects us from the slippery downward slope of the pride cycle. And verse 30 is the manifestation of the faith action of consecration. This upward growth cycle is repeated over and over in the Book of Mormon. A great example is the story of Enoch because it shows the steps a new convert goes through... 1. Recognizing there might be something to the teachings of righteous saints (Belief) 2. Acting upon that belief by praying to the God he thinks he believes in. (Faith) 3. Realizing his unworthiness before a God who is real and Repenting to that God for his sins. 4. Receiving forgiveness (and eventually Baptism) 5. Feeling hope because his sin's are forgiven (witness of the Holy Ghost) 6. Believing he is truly forgiven. 7. Desiring for others to feel that hope and realizing how dependant he is on God for that to happen (charity springing from his act of faith and embracing of hope) 8. Extending forgiveness to his enemies (which they will receive as they repent) 9. Covenanting to help others grow in the gospel by keeping a record and then, by doing so, they will one day receive it and believe it (renewing baptismal covenants) 10. Being filled with the Spirit and feeling to rejoice with gratitude for the goodness of God. There are many variations of the growth cycle. And any story can begin at any of those 5 points. Nature also has many variations of the growth cycle. And it is how we stay completely free of the pride cycle. Each time we desire to grow, it requires obedience, sacrifice, living the gospel a little bit better, believing that our life can be even more chaste, and consecrating all to God for His Kingdom and establishing Zion. Each time we follow these steps, we try to up-level just a bit more. This is such a perfect and beautiful Gospel Plan. For all of this, I am so grateful.
I had a few questions about these chapters. In Mosiah 29, why did the people appoint judges over themselves instead of waiting for God to tell them to appoint judges. Unlike the Book of Mormon, Deuteronomy 16:18 and Exodus 18:13-27, for example, shows it was God who specifically told them to appoint judges. Alma 3:18-19 says, "Now the Amlicites knew not that they were fulfilling the words of God when they began to mark themselves in their foreheads; nevertheless they had come out in open rebellion against God; therefore it was expedient that the curse should fall upon them. Now I would that ye should see that they brought upon themselves the curse; and even so doth every man that is cursed bring upon himself his own condemnation". Did the skin of the Amlicites also become dark like the Lamanites or was the red mark on their forehead considered their only curse? Was there another curse from God that came upon them after they marked themselves with red? Alma explains in 3:6-7 that the visible sign of the curse (dark skin) was placed on the Lamanites by God centuries earlier (in the era when Lehi and his family left Jerusalem). Why didn't Lehi, Nephi, or subsequent Nephites make this known in their writings long before Alma came on the scene?
Wait was pastor Jeff there? So curious if he’s actually going to convert and when? If not that’s fine it’s been great to have the dialogue between the dif beliefs.
Church culture need not exist at all. The existence of Church culture is breaking hearts, creating division, and condemning the 'Church.' I moved my records to a humble branch where church culture doesn't exist. We are all disciples of Christ, Children of God, doing our best. No one is above anyone else. All are loved, wanted, and served. From the branch president to the brother who is homeless and comes on Sunday morning to get relief from the heat or the cold for a few hours. I haven't felt this 'seen' and needed in the church before. The love and unity is palpable
Do you think maybe Amlici,Amalakiah,et.,al.,could have been true Mulekites of the Tribe of Judah with the idea of a King being the necessary government that the Israelites felt was needed since Mulek was a Prince of Judah?
When a government becomes tyrannical or communist, the people no longer have freedom to choose! Agency is the one thing God will not take from His children. And God has said that freedom is a Godly principle! The opposite (compelling) is Satanic.

I've pondered the same question myself. The bar appears to be very high and must be coupled with the discernment of God's will through the direction of revelation and the Holy Ghost. D&C 98 - 101 is also helpful for understanding the Lord's principles, parameters, and conditions for going to war - as well as the conditions for "reproving betimes with sharpness." (D&C 121).
24:55, things of God not up for vote. Okay isn’t that all RUclips is though, up votes more likes, support your favorite priestcrafter willing to give you the philosophies of men.
Forgot to mention about the "curse", when Adam and Eve were chased out of the garden of eden they were cursed with physical and spiritual death but we all know the physical death comes with this earthly life. The curse was a package deal with ultimate possibly to truly become like God. When I read God's curse on skin color in Adam and Eve's context I can read deeper than just color of skin. We learn how to get along with each other in this life and we need people with different looks, behaviors and ideas as well as religions. It can be a curse if we discriminate each other or a real blessing if we can learn to accept and love one another as children of God. It is simply a unique trait of earthly life and not reflecting our pre mortal or post mortal identity, but how we treat our differences will reflect on our post mortal state.
I find it interesting how many people who leave the church begin marking themselves either shortly before or shortly after by getting tattoos. That’s about as close to modern-day Amlicites as you can get. P.S. If you are a faithful member of the church who chose to get a tattoo, I am not calling you out and saying you’re going to leave. Tattoos aren’t inherently sinful. It’s just a common trend I see among those who leave or are considering leaving. But tattoo or not, all God’s children are loved and welcome in the church and we need to keep working to make church culture match church doctrine in that respect.
Possibly, as I notice. . . people who leave the church and their covenants, start wearing different clothing. Because they no longer wear garments. I see much less modest clothing. Just an observation.
That’s true, righteousness cannot be legislated (Alma 4.19). These r perilous times , tho, well beyond a mere two party system in America 🇺🇸 as it’s more like one remaining faith centered party vs sheer evil at a Gadianton level of oppressive deception. Democracy is majority rule which verges on tyranny & especially its most important who r really counting the votes 🗳️ vs casting the votes, truth be told! Thank the Lord for the divinely inspired constitution as to electoral college vs majority rule in ‘16 or we would be, even now, in abject temporal slavery!
I agree except both parties are evil. They both are moving this country in the same direction. The main distinguishing difference is direction vs pace. It’s more easily identified or noticeable if one’s pace is faster but unfortunately the direction is the same with both political parties!
Remember President Oaks Conference talk about politics. A political affiliation does not determine righteousness. Each political party has positive and negative parts.

I have been really disgusted with our current government. This chapter has helped me so much. I love Mosiah.

So agree -our sentiments

No contention
What about when the government becomes diabolical and evil ??
I’m confused why is the Lord helping saints with war in the scriptures
When a government becomes tyrannical or communist, the people no longer have freedom to choose! Agency is the one thing God will not take from His children. And God has said that freedom is a Godly principle!
The opposite (compelling) is Satanic.
