This was truly a Godsend. I'm not going the EPIK route but rather wanting to join a Hagwon or private language academy and really found the points you mentioned so helpful. i was wondering, for you hand signed/physical letters of rec. we’re the sealed in an envelope and addressed to you? or how did you go about that?
Yes, they were posted to me by mail. But I took them out of the envelopes to make sure that everything was okay. The only thing that should be enclosed in an envelope is the academic transcript

This is so informative. I still have two more years left before I finish Uni but I tend to feel like by the time I graduate, there will be no more jobs left *screams in silence*! I really want to go teach in South Korea, please tell me that I should stop having negative thoughts.

I believe it’s possible to get two letters from two lectures from the same uni, if you don’t have any work experience.
But I’m not 100% sure since it’s been 4 years since I did my application. I’d advise you to contact EPIK for a more reliable answer

Hey Letty thanks for this video, but you are confusing me tjo!🤦♂️. At first you used POSTNET for apostilling your documents at Dirco, right. And then, you went to Dirco by yourself. My question is why did you go by yourself to Dirco? if POSTNET did send your documents for apostling to Dirco?
I wanted to save that R400😂.
When I used PostNet I was living in Klerksdorp, so it was cheaper for me to use a middle man (PostNet).
The second time, I was living in Harties, which is 40 minutes drive from Pretoria. So it was cheaper to just drive there and back.
Did you use a agency? If you did which one? This video was so helpful💕💕

I've been going through all your videos as I've decided to teach in Korea after I graduate. At first I felt sooo overwhelmed by all the things that have to be done but you break down the information so easily so thank you for that!! 🥰
I have a question though- I went to an Afrikaans primary school & an English high school (+ my uni is in English), but do you think this will be a problem considering I have to send letters of confirmation on being taught in English from gr. 7?? 🤔🤔

I don’t think it will be a problem. I’d advise you to apply with a recruiter, they’d be able to give you proper information. But I don’t think it’d be a problem..

Mine didn’t have a water stamp.
But it was a free certificate I got after completing the course

Great content. How long did it take for you to get the interview? Also did the SARS certificate take long?
I applied on August 1st and only had my interview in November 10th. So I didn’t have to do an interview this year because I was one of the applicants who were deferred since South African and UK applicants couldn’t come to Korea in February.
Man, I forgot to mention that in the video but I had to apply for my certificate TWICE! And I called the SARS complaint line two months are my second application and that’s when they emailed me my certificate 😒😒😒.
So your certificate should take 21 working days to come out but it took longer and I also got it after complaining.
Hey Letty. Thanks for the video, so helpful. I recently passed my epik interview and now busy collecting my final docs. I wanted to ask that about the certificate of residence, do i need to wait for a contract to apply or can i start now? Also for the visa application, did you do it yourself? I applied through an agency and I am just wondering how that works since I have two university transcripts and I saw that you have to bring one to the embassy as well.

So I’m going to assume that you’re coming in August, then you’ll have to apply for your certificate of residence now.
And yes, I did the visa application myself. It’s not difficult at all! I just downloaded the application from the embassy website and my recruiter helped me fill it in.

@@thatokhutso7634 I didn’t courier mine because I applied with an agent; so they couriered our documents. I don’t know what the process is like.
But I believe you send the originals.
Just make copies for yourself.
But to be sure, email EPIK

I'm interested in goin to Korea to teach but I'm doing the TEFL course. Do they require verification on one's TEFL diploma aswell. The other question is i want to bring my family with would EPIK place one in that case.
No they don’t require verification for the TEFL Certificate.
So I’m not sure about that hey; I really don’t know… I’d advise you to apply with a recruiter and then ask your recruiter.

It’s for teachers who are working in public schools. If you work at a hagwon, it doesn’t apply

Honestly, I’m not sure but I think you should mention your PGCE. Email EPIK to know for sure

Who do we give the residency certificate to? Also how long is the residency certificate valid for?

I’m not sure but I’d advice your to contact EPIK, they will give you a reliable answer
OK so I have go to the police station for a police clearance before my driver's license right for R200 in like a few mins is tat the the clearance I'm supposed to submit or the R2500 one just double checking also u said for Saqa is R610 for all documents u submit to it right as well as ur Tefl and PCC. OK so after tat I go to postnet/dirco and pay R400 to apostle all of the documents corrects or each page
Those were prices when I applied, I don’t know if those are still the prices. I’d advise you to contact SAQA and Postnet.
How long does SAQA take to give you a quote as I have sent them an email but they have not responded any help anyone ?

Hey there. Thanks for your comments. Yes, SAQA emailed me back like 3 days after sending them the email. But please keep in mind that not many people were applying for EPIK when I applied

I believe you can! You’d have to get a letter from your school that specifies that you took the English classes.

Heya. Thank you for the lovely breakdown. I have a question regarding vaccinations. Is it a must for one to be vaccinated to enter SK? Or a negative test will be sufficient? Also if a vaccination is required, will the vaccine that only has one dose ne good?
Hey Kgomotso. I believe that rules have changed and that you don’t have to be vaccinated to enter anymore. But I advise you to check with the embassy for a more reliable answer

But if you want it again; you can always contact Saqa for a reprint

There’s no expiration date for the English Schooling letters.
With SARS; I advise that you get it next year. You need the certificate to be dates 2022, if that’s the year you will come to Korea.

We did the medical at orientation so we didn’t have to book anything we paid 80,000 KRW (I think that’s how much we paid.. it was almost 3 years ago so some details are hazy)

It doesn’t expire because your degree doesn’t expire. So whenever you want another one; you have to get it reprinted by Saqa

I don’t know if the process has changed. But I email a copy of my degree and degree to SAQA and they emailed back an invoice. And I, then sent, the money to them. I think there’s a form you must send with your documents, the degree verification form.
So if I went to one school from primary to high school one letter will do right?
I believe that would be correctl.
Do the schools wait for you to gather all your documents until you are ready to go?
No; all your documents must be sent to Korea 6 weeks before you leave the country, or else you will have to leave the program.
Would it an issue if you went to a school where you learned your mother tongue as your home language and English as your second language in grade 7 and learned in English from grade 8-12?

What is the teaching environment in Korea like?
It varies per school, so I can only talk for myself.
I have students who are just amazing, and so they make teaching so much easier. Of course, there are some challenges, mainly due to the language barrier but my coteachers are always present to help out.
After sending the application to SAQA do they reply to and give you payment details?
Yes. They did, it took them about 2-3 days for them to get back to me with a quotation

I’d advise you to talk to Cliff (he’s a GoldKey Education recruiter; the agent I used to come here). His contact details in on the Goldkey Education website.

Oh yes! Many teachers do that actually!
But I don’t think you can study at a Korean university

Hey Letty, I just wanted to find out if the SARS Tax certificate is really needed? That's the only thing I don't have but I saw on my agency its stated that if I don't have it I'll pay tax in Korea of which I am fine with. Please help me out 🥺?
Yes you need it. Unless you want to pay tax. With the certificate, you’re exempted from paying tax in the first two years.

Why did you need to apply for pcc twice?
I was a deferred applicant.
I should have left SA in February but because of Covid; Korea wasn’t allowing South Africans and UK citizens. So I was deferred to the August intake
Is quarantine still required in May 2022? 😭
I’m not sure but I know that korea has lifted the Covid regulations. But I don’t know if EPIK will still require their applicants to quarantine
