Seeing how many of these you make-And they are each amazing!-and seeing all the tooling that you already have, I am constantly surprised that you don't have a milling machine so that you can use dovetail cutter end mills! Beautiful hand work, as always!
You have such a great intuition with your editing! Your videos are such a delight to watch, as even though you don't speed up the playback pace, they never feel long. You're showing us every step, but only long enough to understand the concept/process, then move on to the next step. Knowing where to cut the footage takes such a special sense, one where it'd be hard to explain to someone who just didn't *_feel_* it. Such beautiful work here, as always. I don't think I've seen metal dovetails done before, so the novelty was an extra delight. :)
Wow that's a project every one should have in their list so we can get a good grip with techniques and develop skills that only handling steel can give us!!! Thanks for sharing this video, can wait for part 2.
Most mastercraftsmen use handtools, machinists get the flatest surfaces possible by scraping, usually by hand. I am impressed by your craftsmanship. I really enjoyed your joyful humming at the begining of the video. Much better than the obnoxious music in some videos. Thank you Sir.
As the younger people say "OMG". I say "Amazing" work. I must admit, that's a lot more work than I think I would want to do! You have a lot of patience. It Is going to be a wonderful tool.
You have done some excellent hand work here, do not ever consider using an angle grinder, you will very quickly ruin the work you have done so carefully by hand, the bench grinder is so much better, a small milling machine would be a huge asset to you, and if you use your bench grinder to take one side off the triangle file you will get a much better dovetail cut, your files will also last a lot longer if you do not drag them backwards over the workpiece when you are fileing, you have made a 1st class job of this so far ! Many thanks for posting this, most people cant be bothered with a hacksaw or file, yo have made it an art !
If you weren't any good with a hacksaw and file before, you certainly were after this episode. It was good to watch and will follow the rest with interest. Regards
jeez, and I thought wooden dovetails were hard. can't wait to see the end result. had you thought about contrasting metals? like brass and steel? not sure how they'd weld at the end though, if you are doing a weld
You can make one from microwave transformer. Its not safest, prettiest, or easiest to operate, but should work to tag parts together.. if its the lack of money that is holding you back.
Mathew Mohon: the idea behind using dovetails is so that it does not need welding, by peening the dovetails together they form one solid joint, and yes, brass sides and a steel sole would look very nice!
Brady Rose: Distortion would be one good reason, you may as well machine it from a solid block of steel, you could start with a rolled steel channel section, but it is much nicer to do it this way.

I wonder where you learnt of these techniques for making a plane (which seem to originate in Britain)?
What a nice job !
Waduuuuh..... Luar biasaaaa...
Bisakah saya yang di Indonesia ikut memiliki produk itu. ..?
Another master piece on it's way.

I would like to try to build me one of these. What kind of steele do you use for the plane? For the blade?
Excelente trabajo, muy bien explicado cada paso, solo tengo una pregunta, puedes compartir plantillas y medidas. saludos
Awesome stuff!
как же он крут
i am just say you amazing
very nice Project
is there a reason why welding and milling is not an option?
I am woodwork
So there are no milling machines and welders
