  • The Rockets come back on the Sonics with an incredible barrage, and send the game into overtime. They lost in OT, but still provided a memorable ending. This was game 4 of the 2nd round of the Western Conf. playoffs. This game completed Seattle's sweep.

I was a very stressed out and very traumatized 12yo Sonics fan watching this game. Having seen us be a championship caliber team and have early playoff rounds all but sewn up only to blow it it agonizing fashion previously all I could think was “please don’t do this to me again”. Sadly this was the year where the whole western conference was just playing for second place.. great timing Sonics

GP himself said when talking about this series that it didn’t feel like a sweep

I'm afraid I don't. All of those old tapes are gone. But I saved this one for years because of how great of a game it was.

Hey romanianhills, thanks for the upload! I was proud of the way the Rockets played despite the 20 pt lead for Seattle. The Rockets may have been swept but clutch city still lived. Do you have game 2 or game 3 of this series?

I remember watching this game on NBC,the Sonics had big lead the whole game led by 20 points in the fourth quarter then Rockets made that big comeback to send it to overtime when the Sonics won to complete the sweep, how the Rockets did not win any games in that series because of those four games was really close and could'be went either way that was the year the rockets won their end championship and before they pulled off the big trade sending two players from the chaionship teams Robert Horry and Sam Cassell to Phoenix for MVP forward Charles Barkley and the next season they was in the Conference finals against the Jazz which could had gone either way in that series

Seattle owned the rockets. Any coincidence that the rockets won their titles without playing against Seattle? Lucky.

The refs robbed the Rockets in 1993 series. Rockets beat them in 1997. Sonics choked in 1st round twice in 94' and 95'.

Maturity and arrogance issues caused those early playoff exits in 94/95. The Rockets never matched up well against Seattle and only in 97' with a very dysfunctional Sonics team and with a drunk and drugged up Shawn Kemp were they able to win with Barkley, Drexler and Hakeem. It went 7 games and down to the wire, Rocket moved on but that series depleted them against the Jazz and they ran out of gas.

Well actually the only time the Sonics beat the Rockets were the years Hakeem second opinions in Drexler or Sampson didn't play no more than 60 games let alone if they were even on the team at all. Plus game 7 in 1993 had some horrible calls by the refs that saved the Sonic. Then the ref couldn't save them in 1994. Beside, didn't the sonic become the first team in NBA History to lose to the worst team in the playoffs, while being the number one seeded team. Yup. That was paired with two upset losses in 1994 and 1995. Love how both Jordan and Sonic's fan act like those two years never happened.

@@EnduringArts The Rockets had Chucky Brown at PF this series, with Thorpe they were a top tier defensive team the Sonics would've had the same problems against that Rockets team in half court situations like they did with the Nuggets.
And Barkley wasn't really a good fit on the Rockets, having 2 dominant low post players caused problems sometimes as far as who was gonna be the go to guy down the stretch. That's probably why it took the entire 7 games for them to win that series because tbh it should've been over after they had won G3 and G4 on the road.
