  • Working on my 1962 Ford C750 cabover truck. I completely disassemble the Holley carburetor to clean and rebuild. It gets installed on the engine and I try to give her a go! I hope she runs better than the first attempt.

    Matt and I ran out of a couple ford cabovers like this in our first fire job. One was a heavy rescue truck with a two man cab like this and the other was an open cab pumper which meant the rear of this cab was extended and left open to accommodate a reverse facing bench seat. Was a blast to ride when it wasn’t cold out. Both were powered by a 3208 CAT.

      It does sound pretty awesome! The diesel power probably propelled them a little better than this gasser. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

      Matt Merc
      YES I remember those when I was a Explorer
      Scout. We had a Second line C-750 with just the cab, like his. We always got to use it for Hose drills if we could get a volunteer FF to drive us to the Hydrant, just next door to station. We had another C- 750 with box Rescue type body. It had a Jump full bench seat just behind the officer( passage) door. The back was walk in, with flat work bench type covers, the outside box's ( Tops) all we had for Cutting or prying tools was a porta power. NO Hurst tool. The FD to the south of us at time different Fire District was the only Department in the Late 70s to have the Hurst. We always called them on mutual aid, if the Hurst was needed. It was in a Chevy one ton with winch on front. Box type back, that Hurst was carryed in. Big Gas engine. That little Chevy Rescue Truck could move
      In today's times, being a Advisor for Explorer's ( we changed from BSA to a CADET type program) The FF Union was all for that. Helps us work together. Anyway the Rescue tools are NOW on the Equipment for all the District's. It is a ( zone) type response area. We just put in service a BIG Rescue Truck. Like FDNY's. No walk in in back like NY's. It Carry's trench Rescue everything. The guy's who man it ( 3) payed guys and gals
      ( Can't for get the Females. We have command females in CADET program. The girls have great leadership skills. Anyway that's what I remember about are excellent C- 750 Ford cab tilt type Engine and Rescue equipment we had back then. The main Advisor a Retired Batt Chief, would like to man one of are REHAB rigs
      ( Plain Vans with REHAB supplies inside) with a CADET and a light duty FF. We are working on getting that past the power's to be.

YA it confused. Just us Low ( nob down) when empty or light Load. Then pull nob up on highway speed. In 4th. or 5th gear.

    I am sure it will run better with the pump connected than gravity fed. I also think cylinders would release if there was a bed on it. Maybe when you were polishing the cylinders you heated them up with all that friction and they expanded. LOL

    Happy New Year greetings from the Ohio Porters!🇺🇸 Dude, I still like your little cabover Ford truck. She actually may not be so little, but she is quite a beauty! 🥰 I had a 1965 with a 390. I guess that’s what they call a 3 stage boom. It makes sense that it would require some weight on them to bring them back down. 🧐 Good job on the rebuild. I didn’t hear any female voices on the video. I so like that cab style!🥰 Good stuff! Do you have plans for the truck? You can always put a flat bed on her and make her a flat bed dump. That’s still handy! 🤩 Stay safe my friend! 😎🤩✌️

      I'm not 100% sure if your specific question. I'll answer it two different ways. The hydraulic tilt bed on the C750 is pressure up and gravity down. Thanks for watching 👍😁

    I have a 1968 COE 750 would you mind show me how your PTO works I have two levers but nothing happens I don’t know how to do it and the owner I bought it from says they used to use it all the time- also do you have any idea on how to hard it is to get the brakes to work I’m about to start tearing into this thing just thought I’d ask before going in blindly

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  2 года назад

      It sounds like a fun project! I am guessing the mechanical levers are the following; one engages the PTO and the second operates the valving. My unit has cables to operate both features. I can try to snap some photos of my setup. I have yet to tear into my brakes. I was fortunate enough for them to work when I purchased the truck. She still needs a ton of work. If yours are air brakes I'm betting it isn't building air pressure. Stay tuned for more on old Margret... She's a long term project. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

      @@hunterm.172 since they are hydraulic I imagine the master cylinder needs replaced or rebuilt. All the wheel cylinders probably need replaced as well. The rubber seals and cups dry out and leak. At least that's my prior experience with older hydraulic brake systems.

      Buy it! They are fun, nostalgic and different than other cars on the road today. While I may be late to the party... that replacement "gasket" appears to be a thin phenolic spacer. It prevents heat from transferring from the cast iron intake into the body of the carb - hot gas is bad gas as they used to say. If you haven't already used it, it may be worth installing if you haven't upgraded your intake manifold. Best wishes! 👍🏻🇺🇸👨🏻‍🔧👨🏻‍🏭
