    I mean I don't have a problem with Lumi not liking the series; but to call it "the worst manhwa ever written" SEVERELY underestimates how bad a lot of them can be.

      @@blaze595 not even close. I remember reading sadistic beauty, it was good at first and then it just became the owner self inserting herself and making the character based on her ex suffer just because. There's a way to do OP characters who face no challenges well, and that is to keep their true powers hidden well enough that there is still some mystery going into a fight but hinted at enough so that when it is revealed it does not feel like an asspull. Different people will respond very differently to how manga/manwha try to engage in this balancing act. For me, Everything up to the introduction of the otherworldly beings felt like a good balance, and I was invested in it (I read the LN, not the manwha, so I can't say how the balance was translated into illustration). It kept the type of balance that I really loved ONE's version of One Punch Man for, minus the comedy and wit that makes OPM miles better than Solo Leveling, but everything became so bloody derivative and convenient near the end that it turned very embarrassing.

    It's basically SAO, I can understand her take, but she clearly has never seen the other stuffs that is much worse than SL, if we're not talking about the famous ones. The MC is the stereotypical loser that is somehow blessed by the system just by sheer luck, then went on to have a huge glow up just by doing some exercise and clearing domains that are clearly built for his ass to thrive upon. The plot went his ways too much that plot armor should be an understatement. The power system makes no sense at all, and the all other side characters are reduced to mere NPCs, and is not relevant to the plot at all other than being thirst traps and to show how all-powerful the MC is. This is a character that my seven year olds ass could make up when arguing with my friends about whose imaginary characters are the strongest. It's only carried by the art, and its every fans are either people that just enjoy the art (which is based, you do you) or people that want to live off their power fantasy (is still based, but don't preach to me about what's good writing or not)

    Cha Hae-In and the first girl that retired due to trauma should've been one single character, like why did Jinwoo marry Hae-In at first sight, they spend practically no time together
    The side characters get done dirty so many times too, like everyone's either left behind or completely forgotten, like Lady Esil, AND THE WRITER HAD THE GALL TO MAKE HER COMPLAIN ABOUT HER BEING FORGOTTEN IN ONE OF THE EPILOGUES
    Ending is rushed trash
    The sequel is an improvement mostly because Jinwoo's son, Sooho, is the Joseph Joestar to Jinwoo's Jonathan, but to a more significant degree

    Solo Leveling is the story that my camel's back. I like the start of the manhwa but it slowly opened my eyes to something that has been bothering me for a while. At the time I was consuming a lot of isekai manga, manhwa and anime and something at back of my mind mind is knocking furiously. I think thats genuinely the reason why Isekai went from being a lot of peoples favourites to something many people skip.
      The general problem is that Isekai’s are typically built around two aspects. 1. Stranger in a strange place and 2. A quirky gimmick.
      Most isekai’s tend to start with a unique gimmick that pulls people in, be it the profession of the main protagonist that they use those skills to benefit them in another world, or they have a unique gadget or item or they’ve been transformed into something or they to stop at zero and use any means necessary to succeed. The main issue is that, the identity of the show in it’s infancy revolves around these gimmicks and so many Isekai eventually drop their gimmicks and/or turn into “and now I’m OP and unstoppable and I have a harem of generic girls” they all end up in the same place. Shield Heroes gimmick of having to use dubious means like slaves to work around his restrictions is a cool idea and has the moral greyness of having to work with underworld types but very quickly Naofumi is able to defeat things on his own and become OP which completely defeats the initial premise.
      TL;DR, most isekai start with an interesting gimmick but quickly devolve into generic OP power fantasy + harem dynamic.

    • @apache8795
      @apache8795 2 месяца назад +3

      What's the appeal of OP protag anime anyways? I can understand something like Frieren where she's OP but the point is about the characters' goals and relationships. Or where where it's a comedy and the gag comes from the MC being OP. But where's the entertainment in it being played straight? The MC never struggles or achieves anything. Every fight is just a cake walk and the villains freaking out about how strong the hero is.

    • @lc9245
      @lc9245 2 месяца назад +2

      @@apache8795 The struggle is everything but modern audience (most of us unfortunately) who have little time for entertainment with the most disposable income wants instant gratification than delayed "hero's journey". I guess the reality settling in that "there's no reward for hardwork" in real life turns people toward fictions in which they "get" the reward.

    I mean, manwha with gary stus who never face any actual challenge are dime-a-dozen. I read partway through a few on webtoon for coins. They just get churned out with some formula. Guy gets weird and/or seemingly weak power that winds up being super OP and he'll never face any actual challenge. Mind you, this isn't limited to manwha, there are plenty of manga and manhua with the same problem. It gets popular because a good chunk of people just want something they don't have to think about too hard, which is fine I suppose. It's cheap and easy to produce and the success of stuff like this will just get more of it churned out faster.

Solo Levelling is not even as good as Tower of God, and that is not even that good. It's not a "Japan > Korea, China" either. Blade of the Phantom Master came from Korea, The Ravages of Time is from China. Both have no equals in the world of webcomics. Regular comics are just better produced, right now. It's not a manga supremacy thing, but it might as well be. Manga being more well established is one thing but webcomics seem to have too much freedom and too few thoughts. Editors are not doing their job. Yes, the manga publishers have killed tons of good comics in favour of bland, shitty copycats. Yet, they have also produced modern day epics, while web comics have never come close.

The story is awful every single character other than the mc is literally only there to prop up the mc and to gawk at how cool he is and then most of them don't even reappear you literally cannot get attached to any of the characters because they don't even feel like human beings with how they're treated and by extension it makes it impossible to care about the "plot" if there is any.
