  • About 20 kilometers west of Phillaur in the District Jalandhar, Punjab, lies the small town of Nurmahal. The town derives its name from a Serai which was built there by Nur Jahan, in 1618. The construction took two years to complete and was overseen by Zakariya Khan, the then-governor of Jalandhar.
Nur-ud-Din Muhammad Salim, known by his imperial name Jahangir, was the fourth Mughal Emperor, who ruled from 1605 until his death in 1627.
Nur Jahan, born Mehr-un-Nissa (lit. 'Sun Among Women'; c. 1577 - 18 December 1645[1]) was the chief wife and empress consort of the Mughal emperor Jahangir. She was the twentieth and last wife of the Jahangir.
