Still , I'm listening in 2023 .As I listen to this I find myself feeling somewhat sorry for the kids growing up today. I feel there is a large void in their life. No Guy Clark no Jerry Jeff Walker no John Prine. Artists who wrote and sang about life and connected with everyone that listened to the music. I miss them all
I was fortunate enough to attend this show at the Cactus in 2009. Hearing that song for the first time will always remain a top musical moment for me. Get chills just taking myself back to it. Thanks, Guy.
Thanks for posting Minor. Like Hemingway's Whiskey, Clark just gets better with age. I hope he's still writing songs long after I'm gone. Hats off to The Craftsman.
wow, i have no musical talent but listening to this makes me wish i could pick up a guitar and play something like this-there is so much heart and soul placed into it it makes you come back again and again
Saw these two a couple weeks ago in Mpls. Guy sat behind during Verlon's set and was drinking coffee. What a fantastic show by two great artists. Thanks!
sang and wrote for the best, and did it some more and hopefully will do it some more. songwriters don't get enough credit.. Here's a Tully for you Guy ! Thank you.
Such a powerful and revealing song. I'm not worried that Guy will copy Hemingway, but he must have drawn his inspiration from somewhere. I guess it makes sense. My favorite songwriter was inspired by my favorite writer.
I have read everything written by Hemingway, that has been released. And I have read everything about him that I can get my hands on. I have come to believe that, for him, there was no other way.
VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG !!! Piękna piosenka (PL) - I lkie this pieces !! I wish sing this song , but I don't know words , and I need the text WHO HELP ME ? Thanks - dziękuję :))
"If its bad enough for him its bad enough for me"! Great line! Great song! I wonder if whiskey is at least partly to blame for Hemingway taking His own life?
I'll tell you why that is. Plain and simple it comes down to Guy being simple and, true, All those guys Warren Zevon, John Prine and Guy are all the real deal. I can say the same for Townes Van Zandt.
@nc2kw In fairness, Buffett has never been faithful to producing 'high art'. He's always had alot of carefree bar tunes with pretty elementary rhyme schemes. Not to say he's incapable of doing so, but he hasn't really moved from quality to shit over his career, his tastes have developed in a way that is interesting and always tangentially reflective of the popular culture of the time. He's one of my favorite musicians.
@cherokeexrocker, it ain't my business, but your style just calls for an answer: no wonder where you're from you don't call anyone dumb. I don't think fish talk much about water.
His family had a genetic disease called hemochromatosis, their bodies werent able to metabolize iron correctly leading to mental and physical breakdown. The whiskey obviously didn't help. his father sister and brother also committed suicide.

Poet philosophers with an understanding of classical literary works and how they apply to life today are rare in any age, and nonexistant today.

Rest in peace Mr. Guy Clark. This song, Randall Knife and Homegrown Tomatoes are my favorite Guy Clark tunes!

Thanks for posting this tune. What a beautiful song it is.

You know he's lived what he sings. What a voice and you can understand every word. Can't be easy.
Lisa Schuttler as Mark Twain said, write about what you know.

This is a masterpiece. Happy birthday in heaven, Guy.
Thanks Minor, you've got the gift and you are nice enough to share it.
brilliant. can't wait for the new album.
In a recent interview Bob Dylan said his favourite performers were Warren Zevon, John Prine and Guy Clark
Mine too, kind of ironic I thought it was only me. I would also add Tom Waits to the mix.
They were jimmy buffett, gordon lightfoot and randy newman too in the list
Guy Clark you are and always be a legend to me RIP
its feelings with a song to me.
wonderful
Such a powerful and revealing song. I'm not worried that Guy will copy Hemingway, but he must have drawn his inspiration from somewhere.
I guess it makes sense. My favorite songwriter was inspired by my favorite writer.
He played this yesterday at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. He was awesome.
just great a wonderful singer song writer and musician
Guy Clark shooting me back with Papa now. RIP Texan 😔
gawd I love this song! Guy is fantastic, but props to Verlon that's some tasty playing!
Thanks for sharing!
Always makes me cry, but I always finish clean...
I have read everything written by Hemingway, that has been released. And I have read everything about him that I can get my hands on. I have come to believe that, for him, there was no other way.
You posted this (about Hemingway) 8 years ago. You still around? If you can get me an email address for you I have a special story for you.
damn those lyrics ring true...
1st time I've heard this man DAMN what I have missed
My sister had a chance o see him at Picking In The Pines in Mineola TX a few years ago... I had to work
Anyone know the guitar he's playing? He made his own in later life, but I dig his guitar.
VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG !!!
Piękna piosenka (PL) - I lkie this pieces !!

WHO HELP ME ?
Thanks - dziękuję :))
Pure magic... R.I.P Guy
RIP 😢
Good wine, good whiskey, good artists...
Kenny Chesney really fuked this one up!
Steve Loome Kenny Chesney? Save me geebus!
You losers think just because a new country singer covers an old song it's immediately bad
Or perhaps the reason for the whiskey and the taking of his life were the same?
i tend to not like some artist as they grow old, but guy clark is a natural and cant loose his skill with age
"If its bad enough for him its bad enough for me"! Great line! Great song!
I wonder if whiskey is at least partly to blame for Hemingway taking His own life?
duh?
Dan D. Dirges suicide ran in his family
He once said " I kill animals to keep from killing myself" maybe so?
orsen welles answers that question. H was suffering from debilitating pain from all the adventures he'd been through (like a plane crash).
i saw him in swannee spring fest one year, fell in love with his voice
@RichardMoudry Yeah but Ray Stephenson had the biggest part in writing it.
I'll tell you why that is. Plain and simple it comes down to Guy being simple and, true, All those guys Warren Zevon, John Prine and Guy are all the real deal. I can say the same for Townes Van Zandt.
Now I've got a nikel. smashed flatter than a dime!!!!!!
@Lancealotbob Guy Clark
I think Guy probably felt a kinship with Hemmingway, with himself being a great writer of songs!
Hemmingway was crazy, Guy was anything but-
Push up the volume and set a spell
15 years younger he'd have the World by the tail!
I wish I had ten thumbs right now. Thanks Rich for the comment!!!
I will take a shot of Hemingway's whisky any day over the Media's corporate white lightning . Here is to looking at you! Take care ADonovan43
@txgreenz71 I Like you post! Have you ever read "Tortilla Flats" by Steinbeck? You may like it. Happy Holidays!
One thing you have to say about Kenny...he sure picks great goddamn songs to cover.
@nc2kw In fairness, Buffett has never been faithful to producing 'high art'. He's always had alot of carefree bar tunes with pretty elementary rhyme schemes. Word..... got high with Townes and Guy both.
You sure it was Townes? It’s well known that Townes didn’t like marijuana
What songwriter today can even stand in Guy Clark's shadow?
@cherokeexrocker, it ain't my business, but your style just calls for an answer: no wonder where you're from you don't call anyone dumb. I don't think fish talk much about water.
yes I know, as a poet, there are times that nothing shines
Lol you're forcing it bud. Some people aren't meant to be artists. Stop trying so hard
Hemingway with a guitar.
Hemingway was actually a gin drinker, but Guy couldn't have hit the nail straighter with a $20 hammer. I hear a Jimmy Buffett Cover coming :)
I always knew Bob was a genius.

@probinson1337 God, I hope not.
His family had a genetic disease called hemochromatosis, their bodies werent able to metabolize iron correctly leading to mental and physical breakdown. The whiskey obviously didn't help. his father sister and brother also committed suicide.
Do you mean Hemingway, or Guy?
@@j.m.lawson541 Hemingway
Definitely the best version of this song! Guy is a great artist! I recorded a cover of this song if anybody wants to hear my take on it.
I would like to hear your take. Guy is among my favorite people. Really touches me.
I heard Chesney's version of this and it's pretty good although is has a lot of "Nashville" in the music. This is my choice, however.
Chesney who? He is not good enough carry Guy's guitar case!
I don't hate Kenny Chesney, but I hate what he did to this song.
What did he do to it?
that chesney fellow really butchered this song.
