    Being an IT worker myself, it is astounding how you have captured the business model and the terminologies like a seasoned expert. Kudos for another well researched and well articulated presentation ! An IT services company is a different beast in itself and treating it as a conventional company is hazardous. You have rightly covered all the aspects that helps one to evaluate an IT company.

      Thank you very much for your appreciation and kind endorsement. I've done 5 sectors already and its surprising when I start researching them, the one area that doesn't feature in most cases is PE ratio. However there are millions of investors who decide an investible business just on that single valuation tool (I'm sorry to say but I have seen quite a few RUclips videos where the only point discussed is the PE ratio without a view on how strong the business model is). I am glad you found this video's content relevant and I'm happy you messaged me on this. Patting my own back now :)

    • @agytjax
      @agytjax Год назад +1

      @@shankarnath Yes. I concur with you on the PE bit. Most influencers only look at the company’s PE in regards to the sector PE to determine if the scrip is fairly priced. Unlike other industries, the output here is intangible and is mainly a product of putting one’s mind to work. Also, replacing one developer with another with sane skillset won’t work, as there is so much of project specific contextual knowledge involved. That’s why attrition is a big concern. You have aptly covered determinants like onsite/offshore mix, visa issues, localisation, attrition, utilisation etc., which are rarely talked about by other influencers

      Most welcome, Ravi ji. Glad you found the video useful and informative. I'm sure 2-3 years from now, the needle would have moved and it's possible that new metrics would have replaced some of the older ones. E.g. today we see employee strength as an important factor but who knows, 5 years from now when a lot is automated, these companies might need less employees and the patents they hold might be the more important things. Yes, you're right .. tracking the numbers and tracking the landscape are both important

    The biggest challenge that IT sector will face if adapting to new technologies. The success of Indian IT companies has been that they have commoditised what was considered niche skills earlier. They will need to continue to do so in face of new challenges like generative AI which will automate a lot of work that IT companies were doing. Really a good video but one will need to keep track on disruptor technologies.

    • @shankarnath
      @shankarnath  Год назад

      Thank you! It's a good point you raise. IMO most products & services will be commoditized over time. It'll come down to which areas specific companies & countries pick .. and from what we've seen, Indian companies often pick the right horse to ride.

      LTI and Mindtree merged to form LTIMindtree and screener seems to have buggy P/E ratio for them ever since. The correct EPS is about Rs. 163 and hence the P/E works out to be roughly 25.6. Till they fix the bug, gather the EPS from a research report and calculate the P/E based on EPS given in the report.

    • @shankarnath
      @shankarnath  Год назад

      @@AP-qu8sl Actually I mentioned parts of that in the video. So, two points:
      1. The average cost per employee is still 3.5-3.6 lakhs and it has been around that number for many years now. As 40% of the work IT Service companies do is still on a T&M basis, any increase in cost of employees will be adequate absorbed without affecting the margins
      2. The use of AI, automation etc. is delineating the revenue growth with the employee growth. I think as this trend grows, IT companies will make more money without having to put in as many employees
      Ofcourse this point 2 is a double edged sword and there can be some disruption aswell but on the face of it, it seems we Indians will be the one doing that disruption.

      @@shankarnath ty so much for your thoughts and responses. I’m invested in IT sector mutual funds and I’m having second thoughts to move to more diversified funds instead because of this. Of course they are all in red right now but I’m thinking if I should continue long term with my SIP or move towards more diversified funds.

    Does HCL tech is a good bet for long term?

      Apologies Dr. Keval. I haven't evaluated HCL Tech individually, this is more of a sector analysis with focus on which variables one should level their decision-making on. I'll circle back once I am done with a separate analysis of HCL Tech

    27000 startups how many are profitable 😂😂. Don't celebrate startup their are just burning money. For me simple of resources are given to any sector in excsess than comes the time of balancing it take a decade same happen with fossil fuels , hardware now software so it is over. Just wait for it come to pennies and then it might become some good investment going forward as of now how things stand their are very difficult to survive unless they are strt layoffs and salary cut

      So in such scenario lot of loan default from HDFC and also the FMCG will feed their junks to whom, because these IT guys drive their supplies . So it will also drop to its 50% also many more industries will follow. Saying that it will become penny is very easy but if it does it will screw up every other market.
