It’s not nostalgia, it’s not about old days, it’s about our inner youth, which is still here and it’s still beautiful and fresh like this melody, because it’s not subject to time. It’s «the power of now». I’m still there in 1997 in front of pc display listing this melody through grey plastic speakers. Hugs to everyone who read this. Love you guys. We are the one. Find your inner youth, it's real.
You're far from the only one, dude. I loved and still love this game, I would always watch my dad play this when I was little, and I was too dumb (or scared) as a kid to beat it myself. I actually recently replayed it as an adult and finally beat it myself which felt super good.
Can’t believe it’s been so long - almost quarter a century ago on my first PS1 (or PS as it was). None of the sequels have quite captured the essence of the first game… and nothing compares to that iconic soundtrack!
I was 30 when I played this on PS1. I'm almost 50 now and still gaming!. This music reminds me of really great days in the gaming world when true imagination was put into development. I truly hope fresh, exciting and original titles get released again one day
Just downloaded tombraider 2 for ios.. dont make games like this anymore.. Graphics obviously have evolved but these early games had character and depth and a musical score to make you wanna come back home...
There are a lot of "nostalgia" inducing games release even today, as well as remasters. For instance, Heroes of Might and Magic III was remastered not long ago. But if you are looking for a similar Tomb Raider experience, you should try Uncharted 3 or 4. This is a "once in a lifetime" experience, unlike anything i've ever played before. Truly a masterpiece!
Yep! i remember getting the demo disc of this game & it was ground breaking in so many ways. Now I look back on the first game and it seems so dated. Amazing how far gaming has come.
yes it was, i totally agree! today most developers only care about Money and nothing else! maybe games from today have more special effects and better Graphics... but thats not Everything you need to make a masterpiece like this!

Im 60 now and i used to play this game with my small daughter. She used to act as another pair of eyes for me and we had great fun. She's all grown up and im a grandad now lol.
@@OMwas because I used to have only Gex 2, this game is fun, but play everyday is boring. time before my dad gets me Mega Man 8, Tomb Raider and Toy Story 2

crying.. I can't even listen to it without remembering my son. It kills me listening to it and remembering him playing it in front of me for hours 2 years ago. I just can't.. too much
i remember watching my older brother play this when it came out and I will never forget this magic tune nor his comment "WOW do you realize how good this game looks?!".. those were the days.
90's was the TRUE age of gaming. Titles couldn't be thrown out with DLC releases and get easy money because we didn't have the technology yet. Thought, creativity, and teamwork makes games unforgettable. It's just too damn easy today....the birth of the internet was an exciting time...its total reign has destroyed so much and the initial excitement has faded so much. I now wish it never existed.
This theme is incredible, it brings back so many memories, I'm almost in tears everytime I'm listening to it... My father was playing to Tomb Raider with my little brother and myself when I was 6, and I lost my little brother 12 years later.
By the way, if you put your PS1 disc into a CD player you can play all of the audio from the game. There's 50+ tracks on there. Apparently a few PS1 games had this cool little feature.
@@BlueHairedWitch8 as a ps1 tomb raider fan....they're actually pretty damn good...rise of the tomb raider and shadow of the tomb raider are the end of the series.
I really hope they someday remake Tomb Raider 1 (again), with the same levels identical to the original, but with side tracks, expansions of each maps. Like more caverns to explore in Caves, City of Vilcabamba, Lost Valley and Natlas Mines. More crypts and sewer systems to the Grece levels. Additional sphinx room to the Egypt levels, or more dungeons under the sphinx perhaps. And more. And preferably have the expanded sections of each map hidden well to give us reason to re-explore the old original parts of each level as well for hidden openings and levers. And the additional objective in the expanded parts could be to find maybe scrolls or books of lore to the already existing story. Maybe even a few extra cut scenes. And also maybe 1 or 2 extra item/pickup secrets in the extra sections of each level. A remake like this would be my dream! :)
I like to play this theme when I'm autistically obsessing over my ancient roman and greek coin collection. It's very fitting for the hobby and it makes me want to go raiding some mysterious mythical lost greco roman labyrinth in search of some beautiful roman treasures. ... this game in its entirety just invokes the explorer in me generally.

The very first tomb raider that started it all. All the happy childhood memories all come back. I was 10 years old in 1996 when tomb raider came out on the Sony ps1. As soon as I played it I was hooked. I'm a huge tomb raider and Lara croft fan for 20 years now. :)
+Ravinder2220 I know the feeling, great childhood memories when I didn't have no worries. I was 9 in 1996 and it was the first game I played on the PS , also a great fan of tomb raider
As a child I was to scared, to play the main story :D I always stayed in the mansion. Still scared of the butler xD But my father played the story with me....that was really cool!
In 2020, my first Tomb Raider title was of course this one. I'd played RE1, Silent Hill, etc. on PS1 in my childhood back in the early aughts. Booting this up for the first time on DOXbox was incredible. MIDI sounds, polygons, no hand-holding tutorials... I had to figure it out as I went. I felt like a kid again - and I was so impressed by everything "WOW, this came out in 1996? Where was I?" not even a thought yet, that's where I was. In 1997 my parents offered me the PS1 with Tomb Raider, almost today I play and finish it again some times ! Nearly 25 years after it's almost an epic game with a so great ambient ! That feeling to be totally alone, to look to find your own way without any kind of help... An only feeling nearly totally lost with actual games...
After work when I have an hour I will turn the PS5 on but still wish to be 20 years younger, no social media and a bigger appreciation of the art that was in front of your eyes. Golden generation for video games❤
My mom was the one who introduced me to tomb raider for the PS1, I remembered being 5 and my mom passed all three games without a memory card, when she had to take a break she had to leave the game on. Those were the times, it makes me appreciate my mom a lot. And this song always makes me cry.
oh how I wish to come back to times when I played Tomb Raider... I was so young and the world still seemed so good and enchanted. I travelled it, with Lara. Thank you, Eidos and Core Design for creating that magnificent adventure!
Such memories from when my mum used to play the parts of the game that my older brother found fearful, until she grew fond of the game to a point of playing it entirely, along with others of the same saga later on.
Lara Croft. 😊
I think i was 6 or 7 when i first played. I loved it then and i still love it today, 30 years old now. Actually i played it through just a few months ago again and it still awesome :D
So melancholy, so lonely. Reminds me of many hours spent alone as a child. And this game TERRIFIED ME! I didn't have a colour TV in my room in 1998, when I played this. it was an old PYE black-and-white portable, with a ring aerial and clunky buttons to change channel and RF connection. This haunting tune coming out of its tinny speakers sounded 1000 times more otherworldly and ethereal. Sometimes the music would cut out and all you could hear was the sound of Lara's footsteps...
The new Tomb Raider looks more like Uncharted than the original. I miss this game so much. The 1, 2, 3 are the best. I hope they will do a new who looks more like the original

You're in luck my friend. The remaster is out now!!!!
Playing this during a car ride through a snow covered winter landscape never fails to make me cry tears of happiness. It is just so epic!
Reading that made me well up. 🙌🏼 awesome image.
This reminds me that Lara Croft was once an explorer and not a killing machine.
Because she didn't kill dozens of people or animals in the Core games...
@@ocdman3910 Sure she did, but not nearly as much. The series became more and more focused on killing things.
